So as a girl working in a bar, a lot of middle age men think this is OK to do. And after I told him I'd break his fingers if he snapped them at me one more time, he asked to talk to my manager, and the response was : yeah mate, you better not do it again then.

It's a few years ago, but reading the posts from USA where people get fired for pretty much not being OK with some idiots behavior, it's just wrong. Fuck those people, as long as you're doing your job, you shouldn't her fired.

Okay so, I get that snapping fingers is rude... but threatening violence is not a reasonable reaction to someone being rude...

It all depends on your boss really. I've had my manager tell customers to fuck off

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Like I always say: custpomers are king, but even Kings have been beheaded for beeing cunts

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

You shouldn't her fired

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

So you are advocating assault? yeah because that isn't wrong at ALL.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Skål!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That is quite an overreaction in my opinion.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

I love you.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm a bartender in the US and my favorite is when they whistle at me like I'm dog. Makes you feel real human you know?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I would tell you how you're using that meme wrong but I don't want no trouble

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

If a person snaps a finger at you, responding in such a rude manner won't get you anywhere, being an asshole is a two way street dumbass.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

People need to stop fucking with the ones who handle your drinks or food. They are Just asking for it.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

You sound like a shitty person @OP. Maybe they just perceive it differently. Why not say "don't do that" instead of being a psycho bitch.

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 7

My ex was fired because she asked a customer's kid to not run around while she was carrying trays of food.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I think there's at least a little difference between not accepting rude behavior and threatening violence against someone who irritated you.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Threatening to commit felonious assault is a bit more than standing up for yourself.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

What if its in a Jazz club. Nobodys gonna get served.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

insight!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

"It takes more than two fingers to make me come"

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

You win!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That was always my go-to. Them: "that's disgusting!" Me: "so is clicking your fingers at me, champ."

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I don't bar hop... What if they are just trying to get your attention? You can threaten someone because they don't know or aren't familiar?

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

This is why i work at Dick's, not Applebee's

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You have most likely provided me with a burger. Thank you.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

as a non-westerner, what's so terribly wrong with snapping fingers?

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I'd say Its not people snapping fingers generally, but in England the omly people that do so are people who don't want to wait their turn

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It is normally used with animals. People used to also use it with servants. Very rude in some countrys completly neutral in others.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It's a way of commanding a dirty peasant, or something.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Jeg er norsk og har jobbet i bar, traff aldri sånne folk! Men jeg jobba på en liten plass da ????

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Kanskje jeg bare er "heldig " og de kommer til min bar :')

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Haha, mulig! Hvor jobber du?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Real talk then: what's the proper way to signal? The traditional hand wave and eye contact?

9 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

I tend to put my card/money out in front of me so they can easily see it. Lets them know I'm ready to pay for something.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I found leaning at the bar with cash in my hand and looking at them and they come pretty quick.

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

YUP. one of my aunts was a bartender & taught me that - super simple

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Usually you don't need to signal. The reason I am not already helping you is because I have a number of people who arrived before you.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Or you simply does not see me/forget about me. No problem at all, happens. I'll go with the handraiser from now on, if necessary, in my eyes

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Heh, I'm on a first name basis with the woman who works at my usual bar. I might as well have an inventory number tattooed on my neck. xD

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Wait for them to look in your general direction and wave or something? Or just wait for them to ask what you want?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Raise hand is OK. But we usually see people. Depends on size of bar I guess. Mine is a small 50-60ppl pub, so we see them all

9 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 3

this *does not* work at big bars. Sometimes you have to kinda reach through the crowd and put your hand up.

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

If its a smaller/quiter bar/night just wait. Youll be served. If you can barely get to the counter, a hand up is is the way to go

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I tend bar in Missouri. I can tell who ever I want to fuck off. Don't fuck with me if you want a drink in my bar.

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 2

Hey, I go to bars in Missouri! Which part of the state are you in?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Kansas City

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Next time I'm in the states I'll stop by and grab a drink

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Bars are kind of an exception to the whole customer service bullshit thing because of the ease of refusal of service.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Over here in the US, it really depends on the owner. Some owners/managers back their employees and some won't. Snapping fingers is rude AF.

9 years ago | Likes 267 Dislikes 3

It's corporate vs local owned. Small business owners usually take care of their own. Corporate franchises will throw you under the bus.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yeah. Even if the barkeep put up with it I feel like most bars (not clubs) would have patrons that would be like "what the hell man?"

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I usually just pretend to be really stupid until it frustrates the shit out of them.

9 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

Same. Same goes for whistling. "Why didn't you respond?" "Oh. I thought there was a dog in here for some reason and you were calling it."

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I guess for the finger snapping, you could say, "Oh, I thought you were listening to jazz."

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

If it is a corporate bar/restaurant, they will probably side with the customer.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Depends on the corporation. Some are much more customer-focused than others.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Generally, they like you to let the manager handle rude customers.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yesterday I told a lady that we were out of a certain camera she wanted and that I have the location of 4 at a different store. Her 1/?

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Retail is a bitch. Some customers are really fucked up.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Response was " No I don't want their camera I want one now. Go get me one." I was like bitch, I work at target not at the camera store. 2/?

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

What the fuck do you mean "go get me one"? Yeah ill jump in my car and drive the 45min. Just for you mam. Fuck people. 3/3

9 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

I told an asshole customer that I was the closest thing he'd be able to get to talking to a manager that night, and if he didn't like it 1/?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Then they can go somewhere else for business. I was a normal customer service rep working late holiday hours. Chats were logged. 2/?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This was after I went through every possible avenue to resolve the person's issue, exactly by-the-book. The next day during business hours

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My manager reviewed my chat session with said customer. He gave me a promotion. I was technically a manager from then on...

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Let me guess call center ?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm one of those business owners who doesn't put up with shit. I've had shitty customers removed from the premises by police before.

9 years ago | Likes 38 Dislikes 0

I work at Dominoes. Last manager did the exact same thing. If a customer was mad, he'd try to work with them up to a point. Then its cops.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Can confirm was behind the bar at a night club in the UK and if people were assholes could just tell them to fuck off and not serve them.

9 years ago | Likes 857 Dislikes 1

This is the general standard

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I work in a hardware store in Sweden and we can tell customers to fuck off if they're assholes.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Happens in American bars too, I've seen it

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Took a customers drinks as I needed to ask for his attention three times as his text messaging was more important. No manners = no drink

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

In the U.S., bars are nightclubs are the same way. Rude idiots get thrown out. I wish it was the same for any other place of business

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

In the UK most staff would probably avoid confrontation if it happened, but mainly because we don't like it, not because we'd get fired.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Customer service in the UK has to be experienced to be believed...

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If you're not a twat, you'll get good service. Rare exceptions.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Supervised a decent sized club in Birmingham, 2 of my staff said they had done this (same night), gave them a high 5.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Why can't all retail be like bar-work...

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I would love that!! Like "now you've browsed for too long, you obviously don't know what you want, so full off"

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Full = fuck. My autocorrect is pg13 apparently

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Worked bar in London. Guy so drunk he is holding on to the bar for dear life. Reaches over to grab bottle of spirits, then reaches over (1)

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Noticed from posts here England seems to be pretty much drunk idiots.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Grab me. I ask security to kick him out. They say naaaah, he's fine. Manager agrees! (2)

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Security in germany here. If personal asks me to remove someone, he is out within the next 60 seconds, no need for a manager even.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Worked both bars and retail. Loved bars as you would be backed up everytime.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

As a Canadian, I envisioned it with you saying "Fuck off you drunk twat" and with Australians "Fuck off ya cunt." I love it hahaha.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Same in Ireland. The barperson is the boss, better not be a dick if you want to get served

9 years ago | Likes 272 Dislikes 1

Fuck. I need to move.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Guess I'm moving to Norway. Or Ireland, or the UK.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

In Ireland barman is king!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

High five from Norway!

9 years ago | Likes 101 Dislikes 1

Is it true that it's good to be Norwegian in Denmark?

9 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

It's the best XD

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

As a dane we love norwegians!

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I didn't... Please elaborate

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I wish.. Sounds lovely to tell assholes that they're assholes

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

As an American this is a more foreign concept than aliens does this really happen?

9 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 3

It sounds like you've never been in a bar in the US.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Absolutely. I worked in bars for a 15 years and if anyone behaved like that they were either refused or roared at as long as they were wrong

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I've seen it happen in a McDonalds, let alone a bar. But I live in Glasgow, one of the slightly more aggressive part of the UK.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Yep it's does. Was a bar manager for 3 years. Can't remember how many times of told customers who were dicks to fuck off

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I was a manager in retail for years and on 3 different occasions I have tossed people out of my store(s) for being rude to my employees.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You are the Alien, not the rest of the world. You won't get free stuff for complaining, the manager will not bend the rules and so on.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

i think this is how it should be but im just surprised places actually do it is all i think its dumb that people bitch and get free shit

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well, it is just american culture. Any Idea why it started? I mean, it is kind of obviously BS?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

People are scared of being sued because it is far to easy sue someone

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

From Texas (SA) & very confused by your sentiment. If you're an a-hole you get asked to leave & if you don't someone will make you.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Mind you this is at non chain "Bars", not restaurants that happen to serve alcohol.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's illegal in the UK to serve someone who's drunk. I got a badge saying "if you're rude to me you're obviously too drunk to be served".

9 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 0

I want that !!

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

I thought it depended on the type of alcohol licence they or the business holds? e.g. clubs or bars.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

In the England anyway, any alcohol server is allowed to refuse if they think a person is drunk. Sauce: ex shop employee.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Idk. But at mine If I serve drunk people it's a fine. And it's easy to tell a sober person "you're being so rude you're obviously drunk"

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

As an American I'm so jealous...

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Cool story. And I know you're a female so you automatically get a free pass here, but isn't this a complete wrong use of this meme?

9 years ago | Likes 43 Dislikes 25

Technically women bring more business to bars. More female patrons, more male patrons, more money.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I thought it was a great use of the meme and think Walter Sobchak would agree dude...

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Also why do females get a free pass?

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Might be wrong meme, true story though. And the girl part is a problem as older men usually don't snap at my male bartenders. It does 1/2

9 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 5

Happen, and it's just as unacceptable. Male/female/whatever you feel. At your job you should feel safe. Unless you work with explosives..

If you dont feel safe working with explosives you probably shouldnt be working with explosives!!

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Don't introduce ISIS to OSHA regulations.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Oh, snap...and boom!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Gosh but it's creepy when people call women 'females'

9 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 9

No. No it's not.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 6

Umm why?

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 5

It's dehumanizing. Sometimes it's appropriate (ex in a medical context), otherwise it makes me think of talking about animals, not people.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

No reason. Return to whatever you where doing human

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

Sadly enough, a business is there to make money, and asswipe money is just as green as great customer money.

9 years ago | Likes 152 Dislikes 24

Can I pay you in greenness?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I would leave a bar if all the other patrons were assholes. I would continue going to a bar if people are cool, regardless of ambience.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Found the American!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah but if business is good you don't need that kind of crowd.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

In my experience, the asswipes are also the people trying to work angles and scamming the store. Don't expect upper management to know tho.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No. Money really isn't everything. And for a bar, cool people are what makes it popular, and cool bar staff.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

it's easier to work retail in europe than in the us. the mentality of the people is not the same (ie entitlement).

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

For bars, roughty customers are not good for business. Bars could be held liable for many things (overserving patrons, patrons (1)

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Assaulting other patrons or staff, etc) if you tried this in US bar you would be escorted out bc bar does not want to deal w your shit (2)

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It entirely depends upon the atmosphere and purpose of the business. Money is money, but if you promote bad customers, the more you'll get.

9 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

As a great customer, if I see a manager berate an employee for not dealing with an asshole customer's shit, I will not return to that store.

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Another perspective is that protecting employees from abusive customers reduces turnover thus lowering costs and boosting productivity.

9 years ago | Likes 105 Dislikes 5

Both can be done

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

and the general atmosphere of a bar is important for business. Keeping assholes around will get you a reputation and harm business.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Productivity? You mean that stat that has been rising for 30 years while wages stagnate? High turnover is a feature, not a bug. 1

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 7

If you can't "justify" a good wage because all these slackers keep quiting, it's more free money because no one earns it. 2

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 8

Most retail companies enslaved to shareholders look for ways to fire/force quit employees after a time, because they cost money. Wnd

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 5

I was referring to individualized productivity, not aggregate economy-wide productivity. Less turnover means that there will be a higher 1

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I agree, but try and tell that to the management fucks who fear a bad yelp review more than a lawsuit.

9 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 4

If a bad yelp review can hurt your business that badly, maybe yelp isn't your biggest problem.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I'm that management fuck, and all my employees are allowed to tell people to fuck off :)

9 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 4

From your post I can tell you do take any shit, but you must understand you're the exception. not the rule. Specially in the US.

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

Yeah I've posted that in some other comment too. That unfortunately this is not OK everywhere. But one day hopefully we can enjoy our jobs

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

One of the problems with the American economy is that most of those who could benefit from an education in management don't have one 1

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

because most of the managers who work directly with customer-facing employees aren't paid enough to require a degree and companies don't 2

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

provide sufficient training. That or they're just a small business and the owner has no expertise in effective management.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

We did fine without those people. In fact I'm the manager now and anyone who abuses my staff is told to fuck off.Staff and barflies are happy

9 years ago | Likes 60 Dislikes 4

Where can I apply?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I used to own a bar, and one of the rednecks in there used to blow duck calls. I had to end up banning him. Those fuckers can burst eardrums

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Hell yeah, fuck assholes.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Can you please be my manager?

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Are you hiring? Haha

9 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Where is this and can I get an application? Lol.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I feel like this is more the standard in bars. I sure as hell wouldn't drink in a bar that tolerated asshole customers.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

We try to kick then out as soon as we spot them. But they are good in stealth mode the first 4 pints
