Our new government is pretty cool...

I've seen photos on here of professors holding babies during class for students, but how about the Speaker of New Zealand's House of Representatives holding a baby for a Member of Parliament!

Baby Heeni is three months old. Her mother is new MP Willow-Jean Prime from the Labour Party.

The MPs were debating (rather appropriately) a Bill to increase the amount of paid parental leave from 18 weeks to 26 weeks.

Oh, he packed a lunch.

As a pregnant American, 18 paid weeks sounds so beautiful! Great to see a country supporting more time for families to spend together.

You must forfeit your first born for this bill to pass

Did he just ... steal that baby?

That sounds so crazy to me (I'm American). Our politicians don't actually solve problems or help regular people. Go NZ!

Humans give birth early, first 3 months postpartum are like a final trimester. We go back to work at 6 weeks, still 'pregnant'. It's fucked.

Ah yes, I loved it when babies are used as political props.

Well, not really - the MP takes her baby to Parliament every day, and The Speaker had vowed to make the House more family friendly.
