A young woman found ‘Duke’ tied to a tree, with his crate, food and toy in the dead of winter. She posted it on FB and neighbors in the area brought blankets and treats until they made sure animal control picked him up. Neighbors also helped make the photo go viral. We all just found out that he has been adopted!!!

Good boy Duke! We hope you love your new life! #dog #doggo Most Viral Edit: I want to highlight that our local shelter is open admission and will waive fees. http://baltimoreanimalshelter.org Leaving a dog tied to a tree is not an option. With that being said our community was there for him when his owners weren’t and that deserves praise.

I almost cried seeing him sitting there waiting for his person to come back. I could never do that I have trouble leaving mine home alone.

This is heartbreaking, but I’m glad someone else will actually love him now.

Somebody is over due for an ass kicking.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

WHO DOES THAT?!? Good boy deserves good things.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I've read this with my own rescue snoring on my legs. Could never give her up.

Love that happy ending, the two of them look so happy

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Who the actual fuck does this? People are the worst.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Man... first that SPC gets a shaving waiver and then he gets a dog. Some people get all the breaks.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Cant beleive what went thru the doggos mind when she tied him and he watched her walk away

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Wat piece of s***’s I’d like to get a hold of them sob’s An tie there asses up to a f***en tree f***en idiots I swear. So F***ed up

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I don’t understand how somebody could do this without feeling a ridiculous amount of guilt for the rest of their lives

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Dead of winter and his balls are on the sidewalk SMH.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

OMG Who would do that?

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Let us know when the previous owner is arrested.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

This is why we don't deserve these magnificent creatures. He was left in the dead of winter by the ones he trusted and he's gonna go (1/?)

8 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 2

Right on back to loving people again. Good boy, Duke. Good boy. (2/2)

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 2

omg it breaks my heart to think what it must be like to have your beloved humans tie you to a tree and leave and never come back because 1/2

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

think how anxious and sad they get even when you *are* coming back... 2/2

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Unbelievable. Some people absolutely suck. Animals are amazing. Grateful for the happy ending.

"Dear community, my mistake is now yours. Deal with it for me."

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

What if they just had a baby and the dog was aggressive towards it, or what if there were no no-kill shelters within a reasonable distance?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

Wow. You’re comment is shocking. Some people lack “critical thinking” skills I.e. problem solving skills and common sense. Sadly, u do.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And by the way, if people can’t take care of a dog, or animal, they should not have kids. Irresponsible and ignorant.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

"I'm fucked in the head and think this is how social contracts work. You just throw your shit out and someone else deals with the problem."

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Like...fucking hell. Put him in a newspaper. What makes you think it's okay to just tie him up and leave him with his stuff and a note?

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Sorry, I'm pissed off and piggy backing on your comment to vent.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Thank you, SPC White!

Love how the article promoted him

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Hell of a promotion ????

He's clearly black. Good on your for not seeing color though.

This just makes me wonder what my 8 year old huge mush of a carry went through the 7 years before she claimed me.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

That doesn’t look like the same dog with the soldier. Shorter legs, less black mouth, and possibly different ears.

8 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 8

That's what I was thinking. Look like different breeds too.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 4

Are you literally trying to catch an article like this in a lie? I understand being cautious, but what is the point of it here?.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

He’s sitting on his hind legs in those first two pics

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Might be dirt on his mouth. He’s got that barrel chest so could be same dog.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

If you read the article, he is wearing the same collar. https://www.today.com/pets/dog-found-tied-tree-cold-heartbreaking-note-t121396

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I want to see the note only because I cant think of a damn good reason why that dog was left behind. I see homeless people putting dogs 1st.

8 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 4

Doesn't say reason, but what if they just had a baby and the dog was aggressive towards it, or no no-kill shelters available?

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

Here is a list of places I personally have taken animals I've found outside (not mine/feral) police & fire stations, rescues, animal control

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

just in case you know someone who is in that position, there are places that an animal will be accepted as long as he is crated properly.+

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As a side note the police and fire people themselves have adopted all the kittens/cat I've found outside so far! Yay!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Duke looks like a god boy he has a second chance with a better family. His previous owners lacked the maturity to be responsible doggo owner

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Could be any number of valid reasons, aggressive towards new baby, lost job, could no longer afford, etc.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 4

I agree people have to go through tough times. I and we have been through those times when you have to give up for a greater good. 1/2

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

But dam it hurts to do he right thing when people tear you down for it :0

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Oh come on. Then handle to dog responsibly and find a new home and not like a shitstain who abandons it to a park. in winter

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

If that is how you handle your stuff in life, then all the shit is probably deserved.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I can't convince you that sometimes there's more nuance and context to situations that you're willing to accept.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Sure but a irresponsible shitstain is irresponsible shitstain regardless of the context. What you do in life define you as a person..

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Shitty as it is, better than just opening the van door and booting him. At least the pup got a chance. Looks like a good one, too.

8 years ago | Likes 977 Dislikes 6

Our local shelter is open admission and will waive fees. http://baltimoreanimalshelter.org

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Half evil is still not good.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Honestly though, this probably gave him a better chance of being adopted (and living) than bringing him to a shelter.

8 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 3

Some places don't have no-kill shelters/charge money to drop an animal off. I can see how someone who couldn't afford a dog did their best.

8 years ago | Likes 64 Dislikes 3

Yeah, this was in Baltimore, we have a no kill, no questions asked rescue organization. http://baltimoreanimalshelter.org

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

This in Baltimore. We have a private, and well advertised, rescue league that doesn't ask questions of drop offs. Link below...

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Lady nearby me left a tiny dog tied outside a shelter in negative degrees... how can you be so heartless

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Not necessarily heartless. Lot of people are just ignorant.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 10

Interesting that you're being downvoted. I agree. Lots of people genuinely just don't THINK. Thats why they got a dog they couldn't care for

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My neighbor, my brother and I all used to run around together, one day, we found a dog tied to a transformer. So after an hour and a half(1)

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

(3) we finally found the owners, they told us they got it for their kid as a christmas gift but couldn't afford it, so they left it.

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

(4) 16 years later, Socks is still running around my neighbor's yard.

8 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

(2) of convincing the dog we were cool, we got him on a leash, intent on finding his owner(I was the oldest at 10, so we were naive as fuck)

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

True but even then, there are much much better options.

8 years ago | Likes 153 Dislikes 3

Exactly. There r much better options. I cannot fathom abandoning a dog, let alone chain to a tree, in winter with his “stuff”. People suck

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Well, duh.

8 years ago | Likes 40 Dislikes 6

Well then "duh" to your first comment then, mate :)

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 6

Yea! Duh to everything!

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 3

Can I play too? Duh......

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 6

I've tried taking strays to my local human society and they won't take them unless I pay $50.

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

That's new to me. Local shelter here has no fees for a member of the public dropping off a stray, but might ASK for a donation. It's owners1

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

surrendering their pet or picking up their (found stray) pet that have fees. The latter 2x - shelter + animal control. /2

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Surrender fees are utilized to help cover the costs of care. They cannot know whether you are rescuing a stray from the street, or lying--

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Yea that's nice and all but I think he is trying to say having a spare 50$ laying around just is not a luxury some of us have

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 3

and if you read the REST of what I typed, I have given a recommendation on how to help a stray AND avoid the fee.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

in many jurisdictions, your best bet is to contact a ranger/control officer. If the animal is in danger, by all means, rescue it. then call

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Stray fees help non-profit organisations with the cost of care. Stray animals legally have to be held by the facility for a number (1)

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Of days, usually 5-7. Some shelters don't have the resources to take in animals that nobody is paying for. Try asking your city to (2)

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Contract with a local shelter for strays. The shelter has money to pay for the animal's care, the animal is housed and hopefully adopted (3)

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Fucking people...

8 years ago | Likes 275 Dislikes 15

If you can't afford, take care of, or make time for a dog or irresponsible, don't fucking get one. They need attention like a child does.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

this is pretty tame, wish more people would do it like that! No instead animals get left alone with NO chance for survival! only slow death.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Maybe we should tie homeless people to a tree instead of finding them shelter in the cold?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

dunno, some would cut off their feet and hands, bury them stuffed in a sack and let em suffocate. catch my drift? THIS IS TAME IN COMPARISON

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So, you’re asking me to make a choice between cruel and outright evil?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

point is: the previous owner atleast gave this dog a chance by being easiely found and taken care of! MANY dont even bother to do that.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I can't fathom why they thought this was acceptable. There are better ways to surrender an animal!

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

I think what hurts the most is the dogs confusion. Has no clue why they took that ride and never came back for him.

8 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

The person that did that should be tied to that tree about 6 feet higher

8 years ago | Likes 52 Dislikes 19

And buried 6 feet lower.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 6

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 4

By their fucking neck

8 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 19

No that's too good for them, they need to suffer the fucking pricks!

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 12

No idea why you were downvoted. Your right

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Bloody blending hearts. Death is too quick for anyone that hurts animals.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Anybody who can do that irrespective of their situation needs to be prevented from having animals or kids. Fucking despicable

8 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 3

Regardless of any situation? What if the dog attacked their newborn baby? Would your feelings change then?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 8

Nope. Why was the *newborn* infant in a place where it could be attacked? Bad owner/bad parents. Shouldn’t have dogs or kids.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Spoken like someone who doesn't have a kid or a dog.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

Don’t have a kid you’re right but I have two dogs and I’ve nannied for someone with a toddler and a baby and a large dog and at no point 1/2

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Risk and lowers the chance of an attack significantly. Dogs almost never attack for no reason 3/3

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Is the baby in a position to get bit and the toddler knows how to behave around dogs. They have good parents and a good nanny. Minimizes 2/3

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They probably think they're heros for putting his stuff out there too

8 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 4

Probably not. It seems from the note that they loved that dog, but some times things don't work out for any number of reasons and it sucks.

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 3

Bullshit. There’s tons of no-kill rescue shelters out there. They were probably too embarrassed...pieces of shit

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 7

Despite what you may believe, no-kill shelters don't exist everywhere, or some won't take dogs.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Drop offs*

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

They’re pretty much anywhere or within a reasonable perimeter. I have lots of experience with them. And if they’re full, they will ->
