Spiny backed orb weaver

I know most people hate them, but I adore spiders and other things people would find creepy.

Not a selfie!

Female hentz jumping spider

Jumping spiders are what I usually hunt for. I love the eyes and think they're adorable!

Bark lynx spider. These make me think of ewoks!

Male magnolia green jumping spider

Eustala orb weaver

Not a spider, I know. But who could resist a tiny snail?

Female magnolia green jumping spider

Female hentz jumping spider. Very gravid and ready to lay eggs.

I know it's not everyone's cup of tea, but I love finding the stuff most people miss out in the world and catching the details that you don't normally get to see. I've been doing photography for about 4 years now and have been obsessed with macro ever since I picked up my first macro lens.

Thank you for looking and sorry to all the arachnophobes that got this far!

EDIT: Thank you to everyone for the kind words! I expected this to die in usersub. Since I'm getting asked a lot, I shoot with a Nikon Z5. These were taken with a Laowa 25mm 2.5-5x and the flash is a Godox speed light with a home made diffuser with a Pringles can and packing material in the lid to aim the flash down.

EDIT 2: Updated the photos with species names.

EDIT 3: Oh my gosh, thank you everyone for all of the kind words! I did not expect this to go to FP. I post more content on Instagram under @drewlittle690 if anyone wants to see more content.

Because I've been asked, here are more photos:
By popular demand, part two of my macro highlights! https://imgur.com/gallery/Q0MN6Gn

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

First photo is a spiny backed orb weaver. I was lucky enough to catch her on a flat surface.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

@op another jumping spider sends hello

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

# 8 is David Bowie reincarnated.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I thought the exact same thing about this one;) I have a small anisocoria myself, and although some say it looks cool, it can be a nuisance

Any golden orb weavers? They're my favorite. Not very tiny though :p

4 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I love these guys too! So pretty.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I do find a lot of golden web orb weavers. They're actually too big to take photos of with this lens. I'll do another dump later!

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I love spiders!I keep tarantulas and two real spiders as pets and I LOVE YOUR PICTURES!They‘re amazing!

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Really cool images

Thank you!

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Dude… your homemade flash reflector dodad is amazing and I’ll be adding it to my kit.

4 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Pringles can and duct tape! It has made such a huge difference for my macro photography and it's so portable.

4 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

What lens do you generally use for your macro photography?

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Depending on what I'm shooting, either a Laowa 25mm 2.5-5x or a Sigma 105mm f2.8. These were all taken with the Laowa.

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

That looks way more reasonably priced than I thought. I may put the Laowa on the ole wish list for my Nikon!

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Fair warning, it had a steep learning curve! Using the mirrorless helps too for focus peaking with such a shallow DOF.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I hate being near spiders but I love looking at pictures of them. I feel like my dear lessen each time. Thank you

Fun hobby. Definitely the more adorable of our 8 legged friends. I have a great pic of one with lunch in it's mandibles.

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Arachnophobe here, I braved your post. Upvoted for enthusiasm & excellent pics & funky headgear (you) despite too many legs (spiders).

4 years ago | Likes 454 Dislikes 0

"Funky headgear, eh?" - Date Mike

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah, hat and sunglasses are a bit odd

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Big spiders are scary. But jumping spiders are so damned cute. They look like little old spectacled men from cartoons

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Honestly thought the flash was attached to the hat.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

No worries! It does come in handy to brace my head against the flash to stabilize the camera.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

... I did until I read your comment. So it's normal headgear and unrelated funky actual gear. ?‍♀️

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You're an arachnophobe? What the hell dude just let spiders get married

4 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Have you seen the lucas the spider videos? They actually helped me out a lot.

4 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Yes, they're probably the reason I can mostly deal with jumping spider pics. In some vids he's walking too much & too "spidery" though. >.<

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

One thing that helped me as a kid was 1. Thinking of them from a sciencey point of view and 2. I moved into a house that had a swamp

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Attached to the yard (very little) they ate ALL the mosquitos if we didnt kill them. As long as I ignored em, no bugs! The silent pact...

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I get what you're saying but I can't really fight it with reason. It's an involuntary thing.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The male mongolia green was not acceptable the female is okay

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The males are definitely creepier with the huge fangs, but they're about the size of my thumbnail and so gentle!

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I appreciate it! I know most people hate them, but spiders really are my favorite!

4 years ago | Likes 64 Dislikes 0

They are my allies in the fight against mosquitoes and the occasional fly.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I don’t much care for spiders... but I am genuinely happy you do! Keep up the great work @OP

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Google Opo Terser's macrophotography work of jumping spiders then get really sad because you'll never be that good. I did.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I love spiders and these pics. I hope you continue to share them here.

4 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

How many times have they jumped onto your lens, causing you to freak out?

4 years ago | Likes 60 Dislikes 0

I have a picture somewhere of my hyllus diardi totally pleased with herself... inside my camera lens. It took like an hour to coax her out.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The magnolia green jumping spiders love to do this, but it doesn't freak me out. I don't mind handling the little dudes.

4 years ago | Likes 66 Dislikes 0

The jumpers like to hang out. Nice work.

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Any chance you can label the species by the pics? Like that brown fuzzy guy, any idea what that is?

4 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Sure can!

4 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

One time a P. audax jumped into my sunglasses from like four feet away. Incredible little critters.

4 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

We had a bunch of them in the geology department office at my old uni a few years back. Handsome little devils.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

P. Audax and P. Regius are my absolute favorites, but they haven't been around much lately.

4 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

They're hatching out right now in my greenhouse

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I saw a BEAUTIFUL blk/orng P. Regius two days ago. Wanted to get closer for pics but she was eating a snack and I didn’t want to bother her

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It's still pretty early in the year for jumping spiders, not to mention all the crazy weather. They'll probably show up in a month or so :)

4 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I'm in central Florida, so thankfully spiders are year round here! But regals are seasonal for sure.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Do you get Joro spiders in that part of Florida? I've looked a few times but never found any
