French Feasting an American MRE

Oct 10, 2017 6:48 PM

Did not have the original packet where everything was stored, but here is is, main course : the famous beef stew! (with healthy nutritious info)

Some pretzel sticks to snack on...

Multigrain snack bread... Have to admit this one kept me intrigued!

Seems standard. More snacky food!

The holly grail for an American sweet tooth!

There's even a moist towel! How considerate :)

Allright! Time to get cooking with this heater!

Here's the packet of beef stew out of the box. Have to admit, that is some solid containment!

Making sure I read the instructions right before starting the chain reaction...

In the box it goes... We got 10, 15 minites of waiting while it heats up.

Let's snack on some of those... Well snacks! The pretzels were pretty yummy!
Not too salty, not too soft or too hard. Grade A service pretzels!

18/20

The snack bread! Finally i know what it looks like. First glance a bit underwhelming... But solid heavy stuff. Could knock out a cat.

Taste testing bread and peanut butter. That is a very fatty peanut butter too. Even compared to what I remember JIFF tasting like.

The bread is... Serviceable. Doesn't taste of anything special (better than having a bad taste). The peanut butter is overwhelming though! INTENSE!

Bread : 11/20
Peanut butter : 9/20

More snacking! This mix wasn't salted so I added a bit of Ionized salt. It was... Not great =. =
Maybe stick to those airline mixes?

7/20

It's ready! The Beef stew in all it's american glory! Includes Beef, carrots, peas and potatoe bits. It was actually better than expected! Better than any american fast food and mikes ahead any instant dinner that you can get at a super market! Good job!

14/20

Time to hydrate and wash down that food. Raspberry juice anyone?

Don't snort this stuff. The smell is intense!

Wow... Much color :o

This is by far the best thing in the MRE! Powerfull taste (I could have probably made 2 or 3 glasses of water!) but it didn't have that heavy sugary sensation that I get from most american powdered drinks or stuff like SunndyD. So tasy!

That's the best one IMO... except you need to trade the pb/bread for jalapeƱo cheese/crackers

The chili mac is the best

Beef stew was one of the better ones. Omelet with ham and frankfurters sucked ass.

Are you ready to rock, or something?

By far my favorite part of the MRE is that technical diagram.

Ate them in the aftermath of a hurricane. We ended up with the low sodium ones. Fairly nasty.

Wow, which huricane was that? And whybwould they specifically give out low-sodium ones? So many questions!

Must be a let down for you since there was no horse meat.

I like the hand warmer, put the stuff from the heating pack in a bottle with some water, close tightly, great in cold climates.

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Yeah that thing kept giving off heat for quite a bit, well past the 1hour mark. Leaving it to the side so it can cool down before disposing

I have eaten 3 french ones. Those are actually yummy. Like above average student cooking level. What was your experience like?

That Peanut Butter is worth $20 to a hungry private. Just FYI.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

You are just throwing that out there!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No I got dumb dumb privates to pay actual money for peanut butter, candy and ranger bars out of my MREs in Basic.

But... How? ... Why? ... Where? ... I mean how? ... Why?

Shit gets traded like cigarettes in prison.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Wait are you talking about trading for sex?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

In my experience the vegetarian ones are the best. Do you not get coffee & Tabasco in there anymore?

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

This one didn't even have pepper in it! :(

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That stinks. Well, fun fact you can make a small bomb with one of those heater packs. Enjoy!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Even if it's used? Also : is the vegetarian pack like "orange is new black" kosher meal? :)

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Not after it is used. If you put that magnesium bit in a bottle, add water, and seal it, it will go boom. add projectiles at own risk.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The vegetarian options always came with a fruit pack and the peanut butter. Usually a pasta or rice. No shitty meat or whatever they use
