Obligatory finished photo

Some of the lumber I started out with, I used pine for everything.

Upgraded to a Queen bed and wanted to make a "floating" frame. Base is roughly 2/3 the size of a queen bed. Used 2x12's

2x4's for the frame. Created two equal halves so I could move/assemble everything by myself. Cut slots in the base where the frame sits nice and snug.

1x4's for the slats. 3-4 inches apart.

1x8's surrounding the frame. 4x4 posts for the headboard. The posts were attached to the frame with 5/8" hex bolts.

Painted the base black. Added those led lights around the base.

First time doing electric work. Really easy actually. Wanted to add those with a simple switch. Also added outlets in the headboard to charge devices and such.

After sanding, staining, poly, and assembly...you end up with this

Switch in the middle for the lights that's hard to see. I have 2 outlets on each side.

Now I can sleep easy.

Dog tax. This is my rescue dog Riggins. He's the bestest boy.

Plagiarism is the most sincere form of flattery. And sometimes illegal. But mostly flattering.

There's nothing obligatory with the finished photo first.

Do you want monsters under your bed? Because that's how you get monsters under your bed.

What? I thought the lights keep them out?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's exactly what they want you to think!

You'll eventually settle on a favorite color for your LEDs. Likely a dim & warm white. But aim for dim Red or Blue... because night vision

your bed is built 10 times better than your walls- wtf 'merica (don't actually know where this is)

I wish I had a place to work with my hard wood.

How does the bed slag base stay attached to the smaller base?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

*slat. I can see an uneven distribution of wait causing the bed to tip?

I cut slots with a circular saw, a couple inches, so it sits on there. Plus I put L brackets everywhere.

Know how I know you're single? The placement of those light fixtures.

Lol it looks more deceiving than it actually is. So far my gf and I haven't hit our heads on them yet.

It's not a matter of "if" but a matter of "when".

Is the headboard pine as well?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

looks like it

Yup!

Are your more gymnastic bed time activities more tippy?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Definitely not, I made sure it's real solid. With the weight of the bed and attachment to the headboard, it doesn't move and is really quiet

2x4 frame? how do you sleep at night?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Like a baby

I'm actually trying to do something very similar to your headboard lighting with switch... If you wouldn't mind sharing how you went 1/2
