I have said this before on a post that are some early signs that the leader of the main rebel faction seems somewhat moderate. moderate in this sense is I think he recognizes if he wants stability in the region, that means being somewhat amicable to the west. Which here he shows thats indeed is the case. Big picture, that means him playing nice with Israel and saudi arabia. that leads to no supplys lines from Iran to hezbollah. But also they are gonna look the other way regarding gaza. Iran and Russia lose big but Palestinians lose any hope of arab nations coming to help. With the plus side being money from the west would flow into Syria helping them rebuild so there are another nation to keep Iran in check.

Realpolitik. Kissinger would be proud if he wasn’t burning in hell

this will get worse before it gets better, and these people will make it far worse

you are probably correct. which sucks, but thats geopolitics. None of the rebels are gonna willing work with Iran after the past 13 years. Whatever government that comes after has two option 1.) piss off everyone in the middle east, dooming Syria to balkanization or 2.) identifying a clear enemy the people unite behind (for nation building) and picking aside in the greater regional power with the possibility of allies and aid

It's almost as if there's no good options under imperialism.
