Forging a timber framing chisel. Amazing stuff.

Wanna know what that place smells like? Coal and man-sweat. It's pretty awful.

In the middle, I was wondering why he was making a baseball bat, then I realized that it was the chisel handle

Neat. Worth the long watch.

I'm on mobile and when the beeswax was used on the chisel, my phone vibrated. It added to the experience

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

why the honeycombs though?

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

WHERE THE FUCK DID THE AXE AT THE END COME FROM. Fucking twist ending man

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

After all that craftsmanship, and they use a laser to inscribe the name? C'mon man! Use a branding iron or something.

I was 30 minutes in when the gif froze. Can anyone tell me if they hook up in the end or if the three girls find their dad?

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

-1 point for not wearing gloves or safety goggles

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

It's 3am... Why am i still on imgur watching some dude forge a timber framing chisel instead of sleeping??!!

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I had to charge my phone halfway through this gif

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

He's good with his wood.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This gif is long! *reads user name* Oh yeah.... Good.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Honey comb??

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Wondering that too. Must be the wax for a sealant to prevent rust.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Helps with that and also antique's the metal.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Oooooo. That's pretty damn interesting.

Wifi Warning, btw.

9 years ago | Likes 186 Dislikes 1

I'm at a hotel with what I'm pretty sure is 1980's dial up coming through the wifi. It was nerve-racking.

I'm testing to see if my phone provider actually cuts the bandwidth, so it's good. So far 13/10 GB used without issue :)

Gloves man, c,mon. Protect the tools god gave you.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Hella long

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Username checks out. Bravo!

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yes but how did he make the anvil in the first place?!?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

by hand, by hand, by hand, LASERS!

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Why did he reuse the sawdust?

9 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

He was using the sawdust to burnish the handle. Burnishing is polishing, essentially.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I studied as a carpenter but I've never heard about this unfortunately.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Plenty of discussion about using old shavings for burnishing floating around, give it a search.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This is not OC, very convincing but a forgery none the less

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Watch those sleeves near a lathe. Live leak that shit.

9 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 0

For real. Had me wondering whether wood lathes have some sort of safety clutch, since so much of the work is done so close to your hands.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

They do not, you're just expected not to be fuckin retarded around the 800lbs machine of spinning death

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

So glad I wasn't the only one thinking that

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Exactly what I thought! Lathes are very dangerous.. Even small wood lathes.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What exactly is a lathe?

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

A machine for 'turning' wood, he used it to make the handle. Honestly one of the easiest woodworking tools to get into

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That thing that spins the wood piece really fast so he could carve the handle.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And what would happen when it succs him in

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It depends. It would most likely mangle his hand or forearm. It could in theory take digits and limbs off.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Neat.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Neat +1

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

This is most annoying gif I have ever seen.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm going to make everything by hand using wood and rub it with hand harvested natural bees wax and hammer my name into the head. Then I'll

9 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

Hand lathe the handle and use organic oil to carefully season the it. Then I'll shoot fucking lasers at it to sign it.

9 years ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 0

I thought that was a little strange, he didn't have a traditional wood branding iron?

Check out his new company too, Autine Tools.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I've taken a gander before. Will have to go back for a deeper dive!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This is the longest gif I've ever seen on Imgur. Worth the watch.

9 years ago | Likes 123 Dislikes 0

I'm trying to break my record and post a 13 minute gif soon.

9 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 0

How long was that? I smoked two American Spirits for crying out loud!

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

6:12 You all ain't seen nothin' yet

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

How? Imgur prevents me from uploading anything longer than a minute or so.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You have to make the gif before hand, and there's a size limit. As far as I know (it used to be 50 mb) it's around 150mb.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Still - my last gif was 1:40 and was damn near the 200mb limit. What are you using to convert from mp4?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

How

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I use ffmpeg to convert mp4's into gifs. It's pretty complicated command line stuff though. I might make a gif about it.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Yes please
