I bought my first home in the north GA mountains in January and had zero yard space for a garden. But one day I was walking my dog and discovered a piece of property owned by the homeowner's association that was perfect for a community garden. After getting permission, my project started!

A small driveway marked "Property Owners Only" leads to a hilltop where power lines go through and this large fenced-in area.

It just goes and goes for miles and this clearing is aligned perfectly with the path of the sun so there is never any shadow.

Overgrown, but a perfect spot for a garden

I thought about chopping down these vines on the fence but when I came back I saw they were honeysuckles. Attract ALL the pollinators!

Clearing some space

Didn't have any safety goggles so these'll have to do

Laying things out

Leveling things

All done! Tomatoes and peppers in one planter and squash, cucumber, and okra in the other. I plan on adding a trellis to train the cucumbers onto.

It's a start, at least. I'll be adding more over the next month or so and expanding the garden as hopefully others will come and plant there as well!

This is so cool. Keep the updates coming

Don't forget to use electrolytes, it's what plants crave.

I meant to grab some goggles from home depot but got home and realized I forgot. Had my free REI sunglasses from an outdoors festival

Luckily tomatoes self-pollinate. Good job op

Still need pollinators

Looks like you may need a bit more soil and mulch to retain moisture. Maybe a weed barrier also. Otherwise good start!

My dad works for a local newspaper so usually I take about 50 papers from him and cover the ground and then put mulch over that.

I usually use old cardboard, then mulch. Amazon has made the stockpiles of cardboard enormous.
