There's a few of us who also think the cliche family story killed the weak sci-fi that could have saved the film, and vice-versa.

In the end, why does he split the dust into a code to find the rocket base and the immediately yell at the daughter to not let him go 1/2
Seems if he just doesn't signal the location with the coordinates code there would be no where to keep him from going to. 2/2
stinkingyeti
Didn't he yell at her to not let him go first? Then found her in an earlier time? Then again in a later one?
I could be wrong. But I recall him using his hand to part the falling dust into the coordinate code then yelling for her not to let him go.
Sounds like an excuse to rewatch it.

Honestly, the movie for me started to fall apart after the completely irrational Matt Damon's Dr Mann showed up.
To me it was the big ass close-up of Anne Hathaway's face while she says love trascends time and space. USA nowadays education in a nutshell
Third act is a mess. Quick! Race to the finish. Plan A miraculously works. Plan B too. So what's next? Hell if anyone knows. Can be anything
I did my best to drag myself to the end but the memory-grid-inside-a-black-hole thing was the most cringy sci-fi I ever saw.
Also - do people on the new cozy space station move it to that barren planet? Or will they just chill and forget about that new colony?
TBH I didn't care at all, seeing "the future" suddenly appearing out of the blue and the guy meeting his daughter/grandma was just too much.
brocksamson69
That scene got me. Also the one where she’s on her death bed and he has to contemplate watching his daughter die and old woman. Deep movie.
