Finished pic first. Planning on adding shaker-style cabinet doors eventually

Initial sketch. lots of question marks figuring out the vent

Before. Wine rack thing holding candy but the games had to go down in the dark basement. did not make for good game selections.

Wine rack and bar cart covered in clutter

Initial render drawn up in Fusion360

Made some revisions to Fusion360 model

Vent cover removed

Base trim and quarter round removed

formed vent extension

more vent forming

Carcass sides cut and then shelves routed

Checking heights

Shelves cut

1st carcass glue up dry test fit

Carcass sides

Dining room became a workshop for a bit here

First carcass glue up. More clamps needed

Other side of first carcass glue up

Other side of first carcass glue up

Back of cabinets. very warped, but would be against a wall

Leaned up against the wall. Wall is a little crooked

Used multitool to cut out base trim

Closer to wall, but will still need to be screwed in

Second carcass glue up pt1

Second carcass glue up pt 1

Test fit both carcasses together

Second carcass glue up second side

Added back pieces to anchor to back wall

Crap starts accumulating on cabinets

Cut some space for face

Time to sand

Sanding done

Sucked into wall

Wall is crooked. this will need caulk

More crooked wall

Really crooked

Gonna need a lot of caulk

Sanded the floor down a bit to flatten it out

Set up the kill booth

About to get dusty in here

Time to make mega-carcass

Mega carcass is alive

Upgraded blade

Super crooked floor

carcass is level after some trimming down

checking height

checking height pt2. Wow this floor is crooked

Bottom face cut

Bottom face glued

Vent fitted

Center face glued

Top and side faces glued

Shelf faces glued

Ed & Hexter were here

More shelf glue up

face sanded and looking nice

Test fit with face

Nice fit. wall gap making me nervous

Painted with Sherwin Williams Emerald Trim paint

So white

Back panels cut, painted, and attached

Wall studs were not in optimal positions to suck this into the wall, so these anchors were used. Worked great after the addition of some metal washers

Sucked into wall pretty nicely. DAP Extreme Stretch filled in the rest of the gap

Sucked into wall. Painted anchors white afterwards

Nice and level

This awful gap

First go at it

Second coat to fill gap

Black walnut for middle and side shelves milled at NextFab in south philly

8/4 walnut for middle shelves and 4/4 for side shelves

Figuring out angles for side shelves

Third super stretch coat

Gap mostly filled at this point

Gap mostly filled

Test fit middle shelves

Middle shelf test fit

Middle shelves all cut and sanded. Walnut is so pretty

Dat grain doe

Just before first application of 'tung oil finish'

First coat

Second coat

Games have started creeping into the room

Making a million cuts to create this kerfed corner piece

So many cuts

Fitting pretty nicely

oops. snapped end right off. Luckily there was enough material on the other end for this not to matter

box to wrap kerfed piece

nice fit

All glued up

All the clamps!

Looking back, I could've cut a scrap piece with that curve and then clamped the scrap for a more even pressure

Glue dry

Great fit

Black walnut top fitting nicely

All sanded

Side shelves cut. Rough cut with jigsaw and then finely sanded with oscillating belt sander

Side shelves test fit

Side shelf brackets in place

Chiseled out recess space for brackets

All nice and level

Trimmed up to account for very crooked wall

All chiseled out and looking nice

should be strong enough to support a little climber

First coat of 'tung oil finish'

love the walnut grain

More coats of finish

First time ever using a Kreg jig. worked great to attach this piece to the main carcass. Nothing is secured to the floor, allowing for movement in the hardwood flooring.

Nice and strong. Walnut piece was glued above

Starting with crown molding. Got a nice clean corner 1st try

great fit

Bottom corner shelf top glued on

mmm walnut

The shininess has subsided a bit since curing

Made a mess nailing this crown molding manually

Bunch of smashes

Happy with how things are looking here. Crown still needs to be repaired

Cleaned out and ready for games

Games have made their way out of the basement finally

Nice side view with the games

More crown molding up. Coped the joint for a cleaner look

This will need to be cleaned up

More crown up and spackled

Kill booth pt2 to sand the spackle

Gotta keep the dust out

Spackle all sanded

Whole room crowned

Crown looking nice

Happy with how it wrapped up. now time for games and candy

Time for games!

You must have 3 money and no kids

Awesome, love the vent extension...but I would suggest maybe adding wine storage to the snack cubbies to keep wines on their side.

Not a lot of room for expansion of the games collection. Where will they go?

Betraying at House on the Hill is tight ;-)

The only board games I like are chess and backgammon all the others people keep making cheat rules

It's so beautiful but also makes me feel like a lazy peice of shit +1!

OP over here showing off his $10,000 worth of board games

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

And lumber

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Honestly I wouldn’t put doors on that. It’s beautiful as is, and doors send a message that games should be hidden.

4 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Might protect them from UV tho.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You didn't make it a hidden door to your pleasure room. Rookie mistake. Tear it down and do it properly!

You should come do my bar space next :D I can feed you with homemade baked goods!

Here you are kvelling about your carpentry, and all I can think about is what an amazing game collection that is.

Was just gonna give props on the snack placement, but after looking at all the pics...holy shit man, nice work. That's gorgeous

This is fantastic. Very well done, beautiful execution.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Amazing. What glue did you use? Just wood glue?

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Titebond II. Works great

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thank you!! Helpful info. Shelf looks great!

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Dead sexy work. Games to consider searching for "Ravine" and "The Chameleon". Both smart and fun. I love the collection!

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Thanks! I'll check those games out

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Especially Ravine, it's really well made and an sneakily hilarious. It's a favorite for my whole crew

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's some nice work, @op. I'm 95% of the way through a similar project. You put some blood sweat and tears into this and it shows.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Beautiful work. Those doors will set you back a pretty penny. Enjoy the project while it's at the functional stage before you dive into more

End product looks great! Why the hand plane for laminated plywood? Doesn’t make sense to me.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Used it to clean up some of the unevenness from cutting with the circular saw

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Gotcha. Thanks. :)

Grats on adding value to your house! Looks dope. I love this kinda stuff.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Hopefully the appraiser sees it that way when I eventually try to drop PMI

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Wondering why the house was so crooked, then saw you were in PA. I think they just build PA houses lopsided at this point.

As a current resident, can confirm.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ha! It's in South Jersey but the house is from the 50s and it's the original flooring / subfloors.

4 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

We just bought a house in SJ! Too bad we aren’t able to do what you did though, it looks amazing!

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This is amazing! It wouldn’t fit even 1/4 of my board games, but still is amazing

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As a board game hobbiest, neat! But what will you do when you inevitably buy more board games? (speaking from experience)

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Obviously the least played games get sent down into the dungeon

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

hobby, hobbier, hobbiest

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Fine, hobbyist. Would argue that I am most hobbiest in board gaming though ;)

How is Jurassic Park Danger? I've been tempted, but never had the chance to ask anyone for a review.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Asymmetric game. Humans vs dinosaurs. We've only played it once and it wasn't a huge hit

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's a shame. I guess I'll just keep waiting for my copy of Dinosaur World to arrive for my Jurassic Park fix.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yo, that's awesome. You should check out the game Dominant Species

I see many good choices on those shelves.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Thanks! I'll check that game out

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I concur with @UncleKitten. GMT has even adapted an app from the game (convenient for solitaire), but I haven't tried it yet.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Very nice game collection! Will be using your collection for inspiration, as you've got quite a few we do too. Well done - great cabinet!

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Could you help a brother out with some recommendations? Trying to step my board game up!

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This guy's collection is pretty great, my favs would be 7 wonders and azul
