OP has no shame. This thing is still on the front page.

That belongs in a museum!

Ah yes, think of how many anglo-saxon skulls that thing split back in it's day.

8 years ago | Likes 36 Dislikes 3

It was probably owned by Sven The Useless, who used it to pound tiny nails, cut weeds and cut bread with it.

That's badass

Oh no! You removed the patina! Now it’s not worth as much. (What I learned from watching pawn stars.)

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

You shouldn't just store it again, it should be on display... :p

I wonder how many heads that has chopped through?

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 2

Might'a been some, might'a been one. Might'a been none, might'a been fun.

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

It was probably fun regardless

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Wow! what was the process to get it restored and how long did it take. Impressive +1.

For unplated objects vinegar works well too

As a conservator, definitely electrolysis, followed by hand cleaning. Probably took 150+ hours from start to finish.

Thank you for the info.

That engraving is amazing.

I was just wondering if it was, like, a metal inlay or if it was painted. Thoughts?

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Paint probably would have worn off, maybe etched. The Vikings did a lot with casting metal. I think they created the lost wax technique.

They cut a channel in the steel and pound in gold or silver wire. Cool stuff.

Why did the Viking buy an old boat? Because he couldn't afjord a new one!

Hurk hurk hurk

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Well, not being able to fjord over would necessitate another boat.

My Scandinavian native tongue conflicts with the pun. What was it supposed to 'sound' like?

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Throw a hot meatball in your mouth and read it out loud

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's how foreigners describe my native tongue, so how's that going to help?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

AHHHh ahhaaaa hahaaaaaaaaaaaaaa no sry that didn't do it.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Sore

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Wot. You guys pronounce the name 'Thor' as 'For'? You English men are silly.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

No, if you've watched a Marvel movie in English that's how we pronounce it. It's just close enough to sore to be a bad joke

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Now I'm intrigued... How do you pronounce it?
