I think it's more complicated than that, a cycle of abuse kind of thing. Like, having gone through that as a people would probably make you react more aggressively to perceived threats, and also see threats where there aren't any. You see Nazis everywhere, and so have no problem thinking about exterminating them without mercy because you see them as monsters.

They want land AND have been attacked by the people living in it for 70 years. They've had govts in peace talks, they've pulled settlers out of Gaza.
They've also added new settlers in West Bank, and benefited from (probably) racist bias from the UN.
It's one of the most complicated regional conflicts ever.
