It looks like a little creature minding its own business then gets startled by a ping pong ball

Now this but upside down and reversed so it's like a car seat that never changes when you go over rough terrain.

This but with a panicked voice freaking out when the ball lands on it

That’s some sound engineering right there

Is the thing on the top a light sensor or a camera? And then the controller equation is configured for all three legs based on the position

5 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Probably a little IP camera. They’re cheap now. Add a frame grabber software & a contrast algorithm and you know exactly where the ball is.

Where do you learn about this? I’m a new programmer and this sounds very interesting

Best starting point is RTFM

PIDs are one thing I have extreme difficulty with and I don't know why (other things I have extreme difficulty with I know why).

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

PIDs are not meant to be comprehensible for mere mortals.

Our instructor had us build one in class over the semester, it was amazing seeing complexity being added one step at a time.

They're a pain to tune correctly?

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yes, but even when I'm pretty sure I know what part does what, I feel like I'm always just twiddling them aimlessly.

This is how a lot of engineering works, understand and design the high level but in the end nob turning is a very effective method.

Wouln’t work without the compressed air

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Wouldn't work without the platform, or the ball, or the camera. What's your point again?

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My point exactly
