So, after my first post we've been in the road for quite some time! All the way down to North Carolina this time.

This was my first taste of 'southern' food! Fried stuff, a lot of it. Those crisps were more like fries. Pretty good!

Back on the road, driving a bit further into NC! (About 15 minutes of driving, actually.)

Stopped at 'Sheetz' and got a Cinnabon milkshake. Really good.

.. Feels like I'm gonna get a cavity. AND DOES MY THUMB LOOK THAT WEIRD?

Now we've arrived at our destination! A place called Cracker Barrell. I got a 'half pound bacon cheeseburger', look at all that nest and cheese! American bacon beneath it too!

I felt really heavy after eating it all, but I kept on going!

The final stop! Back to my friend's place for a bit of what he calls 'diner fries', he's refusing to let me call then 'diner chips' BUT HEY. Meat, sauce, cheese, jalapenos. All sounds good to me.

Please tell me you will get some BBQ before leaving NC...you are missing out if you don't

Did you have BBQ? If not, drive down here to Raleigh and I'll take you out. Serious offer.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yes as an American that's called lunch.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Just stop in any small town and ask some locals 'what's the best local restaurant?' and try that. don't go to a franchise place. have fun!!

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Well, bless your heart...

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Mrw when cracker Barrel represents American cuisine..

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

You've got to hit Cook Out if you're in NC! Great burgers and delicious Cajun fries.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

+1 for NC

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

More! Also you gotta find some southern BBQ!

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Don't let the current food tour represent America. There is so much better food even for the same fat greasy food tour are choosing.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Still.... Food isn't the most important. I hope you are having a good time. Enjoy your road trip through America!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Can you feel your arteries closing already

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Expat Brit here, grab some Carolina style barbecue and cheer wine

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You've got to try the local barbecue

9 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Seconded.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I keep coming across your posts in usersub. You are gonna need some serious exercise after this trip if you keep this up! Enjoy the food!

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

TIL foreigners come here exclusively to gorge themselves on grease and sugar.

9 years ago | Likes 78 Dislikes 0

Definitely ask someone about a good local barbecue joint, NC is one of the greatest BBQ states in the Union.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Maaaaan.... If you're here in N.C. there are so many, much better choices for food than what you are having.

9 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 2

Right?!? Sheesh...

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

While you are in the South get some sweet iced tea!

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Some say that sweet tea is too sweet. I say it's just right.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I recommend sweet tea in the midwest, cause the south is indeed quite sweet! Your foreign taste buds will feel assaulted.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Welcome to America! Save that heart attack for until you're back home because...you know...American healthcare costs and whatnot.

9 years ago | Likes 70 Dislikes 7

It wasn't this bad so long ago. Now it's even worse.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

Yeh I'd much rather go to the DMV

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Hey highest costs but the best hospitals in the world

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Dude you gotta stop eating the garbage and find the better places, unless of course you're on a tight budget. If that's the case (1)

9 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

Now you understand one of the many reasons that the US has a high obesity rate. Cause all the garbage food is cheap and terrible for you. (2

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Cheap, terrible for you, and DELICIOUS. But seriously it's bad for your health.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

He could/should post the next place he is going. I am sure there are Imgurians that would buy him a local meal.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Welcome to NC if you're in the clt area and need a place to try lmk

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

The clit area?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Charlotte. But that's close. You probably couldn't find either

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Haha I was just fucking with you

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Obviously ????

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If you're still in NC, you need pulled pork.

9 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 0

hehehehe, pulled my pork

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This. A thousand times.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Or if you're going to the St Louis area, your best bet is to wait until there. Or have it at both places! You'll get the regional oddity of

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Carolina's vinegar based BBQ sauce, and I highly recommend going to SC to get the "Carolina Gold" bbq sauce, it's a mustard based beauty.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

NC and no smoked meats?

9 years ago | Likes 60 Dislikes 1

You can smoke my meat if ya like.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 3

Phrasing please

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Athankyou

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

The NC area is about 9th on my list of US places I'd think of when thinking of smoked meats

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 3

Top 3

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

You have to try North Carolina barbecue. Not just any ole BBQ in North Carolina, but vinegar based pulled pork. Then go further south and

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

get the more typical BBQ

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Further south into SC with the mustard based sauce? The smoky spicy southern sauces are nice, I prefer bold and tangy STL/Memphis style

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I've yet to try the white bbq sauce though, it's the one the alludes me.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ooh. I didn't know of a white sauce. I like bold and tangy, mustard based can be good, and I like the vinegar when the mood strikes.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I've lived in Fl, SC, Ky for a short time, CT, and TX now. Connecticut doesn't know how to do BBQ. The others have good and bad spots, but

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Where's the pig?! Or cook out?! Cheerwine?! Decent start. Welcome to Nc!

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Cheer wine is overrated imho

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Cooooornbreaaaad!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Fuck cheerwine, it tasted like a soggy caffinated foot. And I even love cherry flavored things. Even artificial cherry usually is ok.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

I don't mind it, it's just the same as cherry coke / Pepsi. It's nothing revolutionary

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You still haven't tried any indigenous foods. Forget franchise/highway restaurants and fast-food. North Carolina... barbecue and cherrystone

9 years ago | Likes 171 Dislikes 2

Wait till you get to New Orleans!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Carolina pulled pork hngh. I just ate fucking steak, I refuse to be hungry again

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Cheerwine. Barbecue. Turnip greens.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yes he needs to stop in Lexington for some BBQ.... Only smilies is open on Sundays but there is like 20 in a couple mile radius

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Cherrystone? Or Cheerwine?

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Cherrystone clams

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Ahh. I lived in Durham for 2 years and never once heard anyone mention clams. But people would never shut up about Cheerwine.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Or cherry lemon sundrop

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yes, no one should eat at Sheetz.

9 years ago | Likes 34 Dislikes 7

Sheetz is my not so guilty pleasure

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Wawa or nothing!

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Sheetz honestly has some of the best food of any chain in the country

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Sheetz is like, fast food heaven in my book

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I dunno about that. Sheetz is still pretty good

9 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 2

Not as good as Wawa.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You're tacky and wrong and I hate you. WAWA ALL DAY

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 4

woah woah woah, nobody said anything about wawa. gotta hava wawa

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Ohhhhh, you poor soul. There are so many better places than Cracker Barrel. But welcome to NC!

9 years ago | Likes 502 Dislikes 5

Gatta send this guy to some local places and not the corporate ones!

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Pretty much everywhere is better than Cracker Barrel.

9 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 8

Very much agreed

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If you pass through Salisbury, NC, Happ's Grill has the best burgers!

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Beasley's in Raleigh and Dame's in Durham are two of my favorites

9 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

I second this! The fried chicken and waffles at Beasley's <3

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Their brunch is pretty amazing, too

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Durham has incredible food!

9 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

So? It is still A good place

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I read that and died a little.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Cracker Barrel is fine though? OP should go back there for breakfast. They made decent pancakes imo.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

BBQ, Bojangles, and Whataburger.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 4

Seriously!

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Went to family reunion hit every Cracker barrel from Cali to Arkansas felt like a twilight zone episode

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

yay arkansas!!!!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm sorry for you. Cracker barrel is a "BARREl" (AHAHA) of fun, but once a year is plenty. their food is pretty good, but like i said, 1/yr

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I know, Sheetz and Cracker Barrel barely count as food. Dude needs a Wawa and a Five Guys.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 4

Five guys is for idiots that think more money means better

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

I was thinking Fatz Cafe.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

There are so many better places than NC -cough-

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 14

Hey fuck you

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

<3

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

you bite your tongue sir!

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Haha okay okay, I guess it's not THAT bad!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Ah Cracker Barrel... The Mercedes Benz of highway food.

9 years ago | Likes 48 Dislikes 1

I work for Mercedes. Can confirm. Bob Evans is up there

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Cookout. That should've been included.

9 years ago | Likes 47 Dislikes 2

I don't get North Carolinians obsession with Cook out...

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

I was about to mention cookout. Favorite place

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Pretty sure they just sell heated food straight out of any grocery store's frozen section. But I love it

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Cookout! Used to wait forever in line after the bar closed down. Worth it every time

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

He'll yeah, first time at cookout I was shocked at how much I can get for 5 bucks.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 4

I agree

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The one near is wake forest university is the most clutch place ever at around 2am

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Any college campus anywhere

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Cookout is trash

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

I have to agree. It's very cheap, and it definitely shows. There's much better places to get a burger. *cough* Five Guys *cough*

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Agreed. Or even on the cheap, crappy side... go to steak and shake.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

You shut your whore mouth.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Hormel chilli is trash.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Who knew a corndog was actually a side dish?

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Or a grilled cheese for that matter

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It is in Baton Rouge.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

But I like Ctacker Barrel. Should I make an unpopular puffin?

9 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 2

cracker barrel used to be goid. their quality went down the shitter. went their yesterday their "country ham" tasted like shoe leather. and

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

grits looked like oatmeal and tasted like raw mill. wont make this mistake agian

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well idk what to say I'm not their fanboy. All I know is the farther from the south you get the worse it is.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

All about that chicken fried chicken

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Lemon pepper grilled rainbow trout man.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Catfish. That is all.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Cracker Barrel is good (except their syrup is shit water) but it's by far not even remotely close to the best "southern food" not even in

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

semi widely known restaurant sense.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I feel ya but all I said was I likes it. I know there is better of course but you can do pretty well here for $12.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Oh yeah, definitely! As a kid, it was one of our usual travel stops, since they're all along the interstates.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yes @OP your thumb looks weird

9 years ago | Likes 506 Dislikes 1

I love that gif

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

he bites his nails

9 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Savage, love it

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I actually have a short thumb too but not with the bitten nail. It's actually a congenital birth defect. At least in my case it is.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

9 years ago | Likes 38 Dislikes 3

Her thumbs are weird too

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

You think that thumb is weird?

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Did you get called toe thumbs your whole life too? I was once told I should switch my thumbs and toes and it'd look better..it didn't...

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I win http://imgur.com/KT35Opx

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I can't help it. They're double jointed! I can't even give a proper thumbs up.

9 years ago | Likes 49 Dislikes 2

It's okay, I got doubles too. My thumbs used to click and stick at a ninety-degree angle and was painful to free up. Wore out as I aged.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Half of it is that you've cut your nail to the absolute smallest it can be. Looks like a wee teensy island instead of a proper finger cover.

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

9 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

I think your wee nail is adorable.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It's the teensy fingernail. Do you bite your nails OP?

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

A lot. Like, too much. Nervous habit.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

My nails grow in pretty well, thanks to genetics and good habits, but I used to bite too. Regular trims 1

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Helped keep me on track and let them recover. Shit isn't easy, but it's worth it for the long-term comfort (and nice lady-hands). 2/2
