It's amazing what you can do if you just start with A and D and move your fingers around.

Op has a fantastic comment history.

Do one with ukulele chords!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This is still useless after the 50th time this gets reposted.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

This is not a good way to learn for beginners. No information besides here is some chords play them.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Ah yes, I'll just hold these strings down... while I use the... back of my finger to kill the other... string... hhrgh.... wait a second

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Lol so true ;) keep practicing!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ok I'm ready. based on this info i just bought a 5000$ Stratocaster... And now it's a paperweight

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I am gonna go buy a guitar and learn all these today!

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Instructions unclear, bought all the guitars and learned all the chords, start a band in 5 minutes.

Impressive

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Thanks Man! I love my guitars. Good stuff you posted though, if someone can play all these, they are well on their way.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This is worthy. Nice work OP.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

OP didn't really do anything, though.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Does any OP on imgur really do anything

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

They do their best.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Does no one else fret the low G when playing C?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Adding that low 5th makes a rich sound :) fuck yeah I do.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I save adding the 5 for emphasis. Slide up 2 frets and you get D/A, sweet sounding

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Pretty sure that's the beginning of Lola by The Kinks.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's interesting. I tend to resort to notes that are higher than the root note for emphasis. That sweet... sweet 4th. Mmmmmmm

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

this is why a lot of guitar players are bad musicians. Do not learn the chord shapes without understanding how the notes works together 1/2

9 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 3

Also, learning to read actual music and play from that makes you much more awesome.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Also don't be afraid to chop up chords into smaller fragmented bits.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

knowing where they are on the neck and the function of each intervals. And explore all the neck, don't stick to open chords positions 2/2

9 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 2

As a series of euphemisms, your advice is also quite applicable to sexy times.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Much like anything else, actually knowing the theory something is better than basic memorization.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Tried it... Did no work with my. Drum set. I'll try harder.

9 years ago | Likes 130 Dislikes 2

The way you punctuated this had me reading it like Shatner. +1

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

You idiot, this won't work on drums! Go get your xylophone and try again

9 years ago | Likes 35 Dislikes 1

Will it work with bagpipe ? I could give it a try.

9 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Well yeah, but idk how you hope to read the screen without crashing the unicycle

9 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

You should also be learning how chords work and how to build them up from intervals.

9 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 0

You mean there is more than the 3 chord rock that is on radio constantly?!? D:

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I've been playing for 10 years now... I can shred and sweep, but can't build chords. LEARN INTERVALS, DON'T WIND UP LIKE ME!

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

You got a decent link or Google term for a newbie please?

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

it makes you a better musician, not just guitarist. Try building chords on a piano first if you can, it's a much easier learning tool. 2/2

Thank you

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Thanks. I've been practicing for a year or so but I've never heard of this system. Will try it out.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Nice!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

http://www.musictheory.net/exercises is very useful, as are the lessons on there. Music theory applies to every instrument, understanding1/2

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Oh this again. Protip: learn to Barre.

9 years ago | Likes 86 Dislikes 1

Barre chords are so painful. I'm convinced that I'll never master them. But it has helped to keep my wrist straight in line with my finger.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

YOU LEARN TO BARRE!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Learn to play nickleback in one easy step

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You mean laying your finger across the Fret board?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Learning barre was painful! Two decades later I still wake up in the middle of the night to my screams and ghost pain in my fingers.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It helps to get your instrument set up by any qualified tech. If your instrument is properly set up it shouldn't hurt to play at all

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It was set up by a guitar builder.. It's just that my hands hadn't seen physical labour before :)

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Any tips on how to? Where to learn?

9 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

Keep trying. It won't be instant. You will feel pain.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Practice practice practice. Hotel california is good practice

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

There's a guy on youtube named Ben Eller who has the best barre tutorial I've seen. part of a series called "this is why you suck at guitar"

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Proer tip: Learn both. Also study your damn theory and apply it to learn new voicings for chords and which chords belong in which keys.

9 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 1

This is the real pro tip. I saw an add once saying learn guitar without wasting time on scales and chords... WTF?

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

One of my best friends has played for 17 years but the only theory he knows is pentatonic scales. He's a great rock guitarist and 1/2

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

entertainer but he's afraid that he won't get the theory. I should really give him a few private lessons of applied musical theory 2/2

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I find this part confusing and difficult :(

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It defo is, but you will start reading the fretboard of your guitar a loooot easier.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I've found that most people who struggle with theory are either afraid that they won't get it, or they have been taught theory at the 1/2

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

wrong level of depth. They are either people who want to know how stuff works and are just taught how to use it, or are people who 2/3

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

just want to know how to use something and someone tried to teach them how it works. Which would you say are you? 3/3
