I read all of that but have absolutely no idea what's going on

Stopped reading from the first terrible grammatical error. Don't act like a douchecanoe if you can't speak properly, yourself.

For all the "guitar players", please explain tonic, dominant and subdominant next...

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

To your original question, it's a tetrad

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You need to simplify this. A lot. And don't use a weird clef for no reason. I like the angry tone though.

As a music teacher I want to steal this, but I also teach middle school. Probably.....not a good idea....

I'm not drunk enough for this

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I read this in Billy on the streets voice. https://youtu.be/HBOpO7RgS64

As a guitar player attempting to strengthen my tenuous grasp on music theory (reading the music as chords) this is helpful.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

would love to see an angry secondary dominants lesson

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Maybe I should finally learn to play

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I bring in Oreos to teach chords. Regular Oreos represent minor thirds, and Mega-Stuf are Major thirds. It works for all Triads/Sevenths

More!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

;-; im stupid and barely understood most of this

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm a music teacher and I don't think I would have understood this if I didn't already know all of it

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Wha?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Why the octaved clef though?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This was helpful. I always had treble with understanding theory.

That looks painful. Schumann would be triggered.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

As someone who already learned the basics of sheet music before taking a single music class, I hated how any class about playing any -

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

instrument included going over basic sheet music reading. I KNOW THIS ALREADY, WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS TO ME

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Surly music instructor... must be a nun. My nun piano teacher nearly broke my hands with a ruler when I insisted "a third" is 33.333333333%

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Aw man, I thought this would be a guide on how to compose stuff like punk rock and thrash metal....

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Guide for punk rock. You funny

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This is way too complicated. Just know your key signatures along with the relative major and minor.

9 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 4

Somewhere out there, Fusion Jazz is just laughing madly.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Agreed! I didn't know a thing about chords until college!

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

@OP no augmented or diminished? or are those for next edition?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah thought about that :)

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

where's my neapolitan 6ths!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

German Augmented sixths make my chord change, ifyouknowwhatimean

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I once got kicked out of grade school. It was my suspended 4th.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

As a music teacher I WILL be stealing this kthanks

9 years ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 4

As a music teacher, I didn't think this was very helpful

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

WHAT ABOUT TRITONES?

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

*hushed whisper* we said we would never talk of the tritones...

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I have not signed the pact.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Jazz musicians hate him

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Why the octave treble clef?

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Seriously! What the fuck....

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I know guitar music is written an octave higher than the actual pitch. Probably something similar

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I don't understand any of this :(( always wanted to play the piano but my fingers are mentally challenged

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

The more you do it, the less dumb your fingers will become.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Start with kids books like Teaching Little Fingers to Play. Start there, advance as you feel confident. You pick up this stuff organically.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Highly recommend going through the John Thompson's Modern Course. The pace is good with that series.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

you could always play the trombone. No finger dexterity required!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Ah yes, however my music reader (brain) is also challenged

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Who was being bad at music that u mad dis

9 years ago | Likes 129 Dislikes 5

Being a music teacher.. students mostly?

9 years ago | Likes 92 Dislikes 3

I've played guitar for 15 years. Still struggle with this musical theory. Been playing drums for 6 years. Still don't get it.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Watching musical theatre majors do theory hurts me

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

As a fellow music educator, thank you for the laugh. That was wonderful.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Question, if you wouldn't mind. Why not split G/G# into B# and E#? All scales could follow the same pattern and be easier to transcribe.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As an AP theory student, this shall be helpful in studying for my exam. Thanks.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Thank you for this. I shall also be stealing for yr12. From, a fellow music teacher

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As a music student... Sorry. I stuck at theory but I love practical and history

9 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 1

Same

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I need to rewrite my brain to understand key signatures. They fuck me up so hard.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Any idea of software that translates midi to notation?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I know Muse Score and at least Sibelius does it (not sure about current version or Finale), but you'd have to manually reassign midi into

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

separate tracks and instruments in musescore and that takes a frustrating amount of time

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I think Finale can do that, but unless you're willing to throw a couple hundred dollars toward that project, find something cheaper.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I just came back from a week-long workshop discussing chords and scales... this amuses me.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

A week long workshop discussing chords and scales? For a week? No.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Oh, it was really fun! we also played in combos, had a bit of group practice, set up a bigband. /1

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Overall it was a great experience, and learning from great German and international Jazzers like Harald Rüschenbaum and Rick Margitza /2

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

But do you know alto clef?????

9 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

Tenor clef is where it's at yo.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

FUCK ALTO CLEF

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

As a music major, I wasn't able to read in alto clef until I started teaching viola lessons.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Did a baroque opera and all voices were in their respective clefs. To figure out the ens. pieces, I had read them all...thanks, Handel.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Right! Us viola's need love too.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yeah! We need to stick together!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

We don't talk about alto clef.

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

First rule of alto clef: don't talk about alto clef

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's the forgotten clef :(

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

what is this thing

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

as a trombone major I had to learn alto and trable clef. On two different types of trombone (alto and tenor). I was always awful at alto...

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

We don't talk about alto trombone

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

But can we talk about my soprano trombone? It's just so darn cute! /a/xBFlg

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

i've got one of those! they're super fun

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They really are. They don't have much of a practical purpose, but they're fun to bring to jam sessions.
