Spent 2k for me and my sister to go on the first real vacation we've had since we were in elementary school. Bought the tickets and reservations months ago and here comes Irma...

Edit: The cruise isn't set to start for a few more days and I already called disney(who I booked the cruise with)yesterday and they said it was too early to know if it would be hitting the port where im supposed to go and that they might simply change ports or refund everyone if they can't send the ship out.

Edit 2: Received an email from disney and...the cruise has been cancelled due to weather and a refund is being sent

Plot twist sister is wife too

I spent about $2k on my PAX weekend. Damn, I needed that vacation, and I got so much cool stuff!

Feel for ya dude, Sister works for the DLC but her ship is over here in europe at the moment. Castaway is a blast if you decide to rebook!

travel insurance?

Come to South of Spain, weather is sweet in September. Plus it never tries to kill us here. :P

My girlfriend's parents did a transatlantic recently. They couldn't get in due to weather in 2/4 planned ports. One port they got an hour.

I just got my cancelation notice from DCL also about the Sept 11th cruise.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Some CLs(such as NCL) that are cancelling cruises are reimbursing passengers. I'd look into it. PM more for more details(I sell cruises).

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You sell cruises? I buy cruises!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Nice I hope you like it

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You'll get a refund if it's cancelled. I just spent 13 days on a cruise ship because of Harvey.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My fat ass would be on that god damn boat

You booked a Caribbean vacation during hurricane season and didn't get insurance. GTFO. People have real problems.

8 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 16

to be fair, depending on where you live, hurricane season might rarely come to mind.

Same exact situation for me except we were on the water when Sandy said "FUCK YOU ALL." Ended up diverting to Mexico and basically stopping

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

at three ports that were just shopping malls in themiddle of nowhere. So I flew from california to Florida to take a boat to a mall in

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Mexico, then went back to Florida and flew back to California. Only vacation I've ever had. Good food on the ship though. Only good part.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So...like literally nothing happened yet, excellent meme usage

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Go to europe instead. Cruises are not very fun unless you like screaming children and cheap buffet food.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

TIL about hurricane season. Turns out it's like the same time every year. Who'da thunk? For real, though, glad you got your refund

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

But why would you plan a Caribbean cruise right at the beginning of hurricane season?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Don't go. My first cruise was to Bermuda when the el faro sank. Two storms back to back 30ft seas the whole time. Absolute fucking nightmare

8 years ago | Likes 34 Dislikes 2

Wow! Sounds badass!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Reminds me of a song... Oooohhh they built the ship Titanic to sail the ocean blue

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

I don't know, it sounds kind of fun

"Worldwide, tropical cyclone activity peaks in late summer... May is the least active month, while September is the most active." Planning/1

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

a tropical vacation in September is kinda like playing golf in a thunderstorm. The only luck is good luck - provided you don't get fucked./2

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Why did you have to make God angry...

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

The hurricane's diameter is the same size as the length of Florida. It might hit the port somehow someway

Trip insurance...it's a real thing.

8 years ago | Likes 497 Dislikes 2

Every time I've read the details on trip insurance it covers the same exact thing as what already comes with the purchase.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Insuremytrip dot com. Compare multiple rates from diff companies. Worth the peace of mind

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What are some trip insurances that you guys have used and would recommend?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If you paid with a credit card OP it might have travel insurance built in.

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Why? It's not like he's going during hurricane sea...never mind

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Good to know

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Trip insurance is for if you cancel, they have to give your money back if they cancel

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Saved me 900$

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What is trip insurance? Like, what does it cover? How does it work?

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Wait.. what is that.. someone explain

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Trip insurance would have been the smart thing to do..this was my first time planning a vacation and it has been a learning experience

8 years ago | Likes 370 Dislikes 5

My uncle's was just canceled. He is getting full refund and 25% towards the next cruise they book.Disney is amazing service

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You might not need trip insurance for this. I know many people who were de-railed due to Harvey, and got full refunds anyway. Just Call

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

Disney's customer service is pretty tops. They'll refund you and maybe throw in something extra.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

the real lesson is, don't do stuff during hurricane season.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Sometimes credit cards offer at least partial trip insurance automatically. Check your terms of service if you paid with a card.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I've been on a few cruises and when hurricanes are on their path they either refund often with bonus credit which is nice, or they might1/

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Redirect the cruise if you get on it to another destination that isn't being effected which can be 50/50 because my mom was supposed to2/

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Go to the Caribbean once but ended up in Canada which was cold and they packed for the tropics. But they got credit.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

but I was told if they had to cancel i would get a refund so yay, it just means no disney cruise/world

8 years ago | Likes 207 Dislikes 2

What port?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Disney is awesome like that, but definitely get trip insurance for trips, if something comes up (really sick or whatever) you keep your $$

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Some credit cards and insurance plans include travel insurance. Check your policy / benefits to see if it is included.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Are you flying out to the port of origin?

8 years ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 1

Your credit card may provide some level of protection, too.

8 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 0

Goodluck, a family at my school are supposed to be on the cruise too- and it was their vacation before the dad is deployed

8 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

Damn

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

If you do get to go animal kingdom is PACKED with the new rides opening. All the other parks only took us half a day to complete!

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Cruises are awesome. But unless you have a bunch of little kids.... Go carnival or another line. More bang for your buck and less families!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Most major credits also offer trip insurance. Check into it. (For flight/whatever)

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Pro tip....cruises suck. do something else.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Maybe because it's Disney (assuming it's already expensive) they have the ability to add that into the costs. Also if they refund it, 1/2

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ring them back and ask to rebook a new cruise for the same price, surely they can work something out. Let them know how excited you are 2/3

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's your first trip ever, big companies love to give out discounts/deals to people like that. Just be honest. Ask to speak to a manager.
