I’ve seen several posts about this today guess it took this long to register some people are really that awful *Edit* Front page!! First time! Remember adopt don’t shop and bewbs are awesome lol

Damn that’s really fucked

That actually blows my mind...

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I didn’t know either. Im sad now. And it explains why my local shelter is so stringent about qualifying people to take home a pet.

Adopt senior dogs ! They are amazing companions

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

A dog lives at my house. I'm going to bury him or he's going to bury me.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Wait, what? That's fucked up.

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Awful!

6 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 0

I hope with all my heart that when those people get old their kids dump them off at a distant bus station.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They shouldn't let them have a dog.

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

It's not an actual thing.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Yea that’s not normal, those are the people that think animals are exchangeable, so, sociopaths. Natural to get a pup or adopt when the previous pet has died or have them live together for a while to pick up characteristics, people that get a new dog and then immediately get rid of the old ones, shouldn’t have pets or children.

3 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I hate people all the time.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I also didn't know this was a thing. I got really sad.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Getting a puppy is a wonderful thing. If you take an old dog to the shelter you deserve to be lit on fire and hung in public.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That’s hella sad asf like who does that kind of shit to a poor innocent dog ?

Unpopular opinion: you don't know their situation entirely (unless you do) they might not have the ability to take care of an old dog...

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I've had old dogs and ive fortunately had enough time to take care of them, when they are unable to walk, can't control their bowels

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Some people cant do that however.. maybe I'm wrong, maybe I'm thinking too highly of people. But unless you know the full story I can't judg

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I don't know the rules of dropping pets off at a shelter, but I don't think there's a rule against it. But yeah, not a good look.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

May things rot and fall off them

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Sometimes I think that maybe thanos was right to snap some people, it just needs to start with these people

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Gotta be sure to consider the cost of caring for an elderly animal 10 yrs down the road when deciding to get a puppy. Also, pet insurance

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It should be totally legal for shelter volunteers to slap the fuck out of anyone who does that.

6 years ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 0

The owner's bring them in and claim they found a stray. Happens all the time.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Then they just dump them on the side of the road (or a rubbish bin)

6 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

This year I heard about a breeder that puts down the pups that aren't "perfect" I had heard it before but didn't think it still happened

6 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

All breeders cull,I've had pet bunnies, breeders cull for snake food etc...really horrid

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Any half decent breeder these days "culls" with sterilization. It's like people who still "break" horses the old way

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

While I understand, they can

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

There are people who raise lions in captivity so that other people can pay to shoot them in a cage and say they hunted a lion. People suck.

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I understand that good breeders do exist, but I will never buy from a breeder. Just a generally fucked process and many homeless animals >>

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

already exist for adoption. Too many to justify breeding more intentionally.

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

My dad bred Collies back in the 1930's. It was common practice among breeders then to put down females to prevent potential competition.

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Many do, especially when breeding with related dogs. Any deformed pups and the like. It's sad.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

We got a poodle from a breeder. His parents were two show dogs, and he had a white chest and white paws so he couldn't be shown. They had /1

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

him tied up on a corner away from the other 'showable' puppies. He had no food or water near by and was surrounded by his own feces. /end

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Fuck those people, may their genitals be caught in their bike spokes

6 years ago | Likes 801 Dislikes 2

Well, all I gotta say is I hope I see this scene play out in a movie now. "No Mr.Bond, I expect you to peddle...go ahead"*crunch crunch*"AAH

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Or just a good ole fashioned boot stomp.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Hey now, just because you disagree with them... oh wait, does that argument only apply to putting people in cages?

6 years ago | Likes 0 Dislikes 0

hwhat

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Hopefully their new puppy will pee in their bed and poop in their shoe. Every day!

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

*Pelotne spokes

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm struggling to conceive how that could ever be possible, but I still agree 100%

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

May those spokes be rusty

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Being as terrible people as they are, they'd probably get off to something like that, so even worse torture yet may be required

6 years ago | Likes 48 Dislikes 0

May bike spokes get caught in their genetals

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

We'll start with bamboo shoots for beginners, then work our way up to the bloody eagle.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

May their preferred political candidate lose in the election

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Well here we go with the kink shaming.

6 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

Stop spreading this garbage. Waving shitty news in front of other people isn't fixing it. It's just putting more people in a bad mood. SHAME

6 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 12

people only try to fix something when it is a clear and present issue and is upsetting them. you think civil rights would have happened 1/2

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

if no one talked and got uncomfortable about it. you should be the one ashamed that your comfort is more valuable than their lives. 2/2

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Had a cat that was surrendered at the pound New Years 2000. Can’t imagine doing that! Loved that little girl, she passed away. People suck

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I get really pissed when I see advertisements to adopt a pet for Christmas. Like wtf?! A pet isn't a Christmas gift, it's a family member.

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

I mean, those aren't mutually exclusive.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

In our house they are

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Actually data shows that dogs and cats make great gifts. You just shouldn't get them for people who aren't living with you.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Also, studies show that 77% of statistics are just made up on the spot.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

FUCK THAT! If you weren't planning on having a pet and the tipping point was a commercial, a pet is not for you.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

That's exactly how you get poorly trained pets and even more surrenders/abandonments. Too many people see pets as a thing, not family.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

This is also why I hate the waived/reduced adoption fee. If $150 would break you but $75 is fine, just wait for that first vet bill!

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Today's horrible thing you NEED to know: The Amish puppy mill, debark dogs, and shoot dogs en masse. Give no money to the Amish!

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

I remember a newspaper article about a rescuer being called at some horrible hour to come get X dogs by X time or all would be shot.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

My family had a freaking ENGLISH MASTIFF who was likely an Amish puppy mill survivor/escapee. She was stunted at 90 pounds.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

I lived in Michigan and it was locally know that the Amish in Northern Indiana puppy milled dogs. Entire-ass rescues focused on them.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

What's the difference between a puppy mill and professional breeder (honest question)

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Uh, everything?

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Puppy Mills put out as many dogs as fast as possible, keep parents in horrid conditions, and release no records or bloodlines.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

And THAT means keeping EVERY dog they have in absolute, tip-top condition. These are not dogs kept in fucking RABBIT HUTCHES, for example.

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

A responsible breeder will: Know the standards of the breed. Breed limited litters. Research who they sell to.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

A responsible breeder will not let the dog go until shot series are completed and vet certifications done.

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

At a responsible breeder, you can put your hands on sire AND dam. You can see the environment the dogs were raised in. Get vet records.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

A responsible breeder is in it for the dog breed itself. To get a Grand Champion in show, perhaps.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Maggie, english mastiff my family had, responsible breeder: died at 11 years. Jane, puppy mill survivor english mastiff: died at 2.5 years.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

SHIT, wrong name. Jewel. Jewel was 2.5 years old. Walked into the vet's office, laid down and died. Enlarged heart. Birth defect most likely

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

(Jane is still alive and is an old lady)

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This is quality over quantity. They may have two or four litters a year, total, but each dog goes for more money in theory.

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Thanks! So in theory you could get a purebred from a puppy mill but there's a likelihood it's also inbred?

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It's likely to have bad genetics, might be ill, likely won't have shots/vet certs, likely no socialization or bloodline info

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

some popular breeds(i.e golden retriever) have become less healthy overall due to rampant over breeding.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Prof breeder generally has one female and one male that breeds. They take care of all the puppies from one litter at a time and only /1

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

sell the puppies once the hit 2mo old. Puppy mills have a LOT of female dogs (generally in cages) that breed with one or two males and /2

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

they sell multiple broods at a time for maximum profit. The dogs NEVER see a vet bc that would cut into their profits. /end

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It's no where near as common as imgur is making it seem today, and there are surrender fees involved. This isn't really a thing.

6 years ago | Likes 185 Dislikes 6

But... but... my self righteous outrage

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

But my outrage! I have to yell about this, anti-vaxxers and flat earthers like they make up half the worlds population!!!

6 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 71

Only one talking about anti-vaxxers and flat earthers here is you, pal

6 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 2

Not everywhere has surrender fees unfortunately

6 years ago | Likes 39 Dislikes 4

If you a surrender a pet to the city shelter here you're banned from ever adopting from them.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Agreed, it really isn’t

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Just more shower arguments

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I should hope note. Likely it's just like the starbucks cup baloney. It's called manufactured outrage—usually to bait conservatives.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Been happening for years.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well yeah even that Starbucks thing I mentioned is old news. Definitely not a new phenomena.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Please ignore @RavioliAficionado. His racism is leaking.

6 years ago | Likes 39 Dislikes 11

Tell him to go back to 9gag with the other racists

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

Oooh him again

6 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

I'm disgusted, but also deeply, deeply confused

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

This is an example of negativity bias and an availability cascade. People are outraged about X. Hey look, everyones talking about X! So 1/

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Because people are talking about X it looms larger in your mind since you see it more often so it seems more prevalent than it actually is.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

And so you're more likely to post about it, outraged because X is happening so much. The cycle continues.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

They can claim they found the dog and turn it in for free. I've even heard of people trying to put the dog down if they don't find a home :/

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Where I'm at, any animal can be surrendered for any reason, no questions asked & no fee. It's not a no-kill shelter, but they only put ->

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

animals down for medical reasons, or if the animal has bitten somebody (for legal reasons). They apply for a gov. grant each year (about ->

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

$20k) & the rest of the cost ~$6million is covered through donations, with like 90% of the staff volunteering. From what I can tell, they ->

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

are doing a lot better than the services available in most of the world, so this might not be true everywhere, but if people can't care ->

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My neighbour has done this several times. There are no surrender fees, & that's a good thing, or she would just dump them in the street.

6 years ago | Likes 38 Dislikes 5

It really is a thing and most shelters have old pets with expensive meds just waiting to die there, if they are not the first euthanized.

6 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

I can understand not being able to afford end of life expenses but that is the only viable excuse for me. Don’t just deny it happens tho...

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

No one is saying it doesn't happen, just that it isn't common or a notable statistical cause of surrender in shelters.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It whole comment is saying that an insignificant amount of ppl do this & u are just wrong. It happens often. What “stats” r u looking at?

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

It does happen often? That news to animal control from the largest facility in the country. Thank you for informing me, who knew.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Hi Melissa. This isn't because of a new pet coming in to the home, rather because of high cost of pet healthcare and financial strain.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Please don’t assume my name (creepy) and I’m saying it does happen for various reasons and that is the only excuse that flies for me.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

It also happens because people suck and don’t want an older dog, just a younger one or a cute puppy. They don’t think long term.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

It's okay to have that opinion. It happens. Just not to a statistically significant degree.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Maybe autocorrect assumed your name and changed it when it was typed?
