Anyone knows the name of the book?

Dad loves me. Mom hates me. Sisters variable. Brother leans toward loves me. I learned this one early when family got destroyed in divorce.

That idea kept me from killing myself way back when. I might have a right to kill the one internal me, but I can't kill my mother's son

I get it but you are the only one who has to live with you for the rest of your life so make sure it is the best you you can.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This is backwards. The" you" everyone else "thinks" they know is not the real "you". The "you" that you know is the only real "you".

"Relife" by fuck I don't know the author but this is the exact same story.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I was daydreaming earlier that if I died, I dont think anyone would truly know who I am or how I feel. Just their surface level perceptions.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I love when people try to tell others what I think or whatever. They are always wrong.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

"Relife" by Dan Barton totally explores/covers this. A wonderful read!

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This is actually something I've long been painfully aware of. I liken it to wearing different "masks", whether I'm with family or out...

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

...with coworkers. One of the reasons why I generally prefer to be alone is I don't feel like I have to wear a mask anymore.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Sounds like you would enjoy the philosophical side of Neon Genesis Evangelion. Watch the show, the movies skip a lot of that.

4 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 3

There can be only one!

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And I'm a million different people from one day to the next I can't change my mould

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

ITT: people who think this is obvious in retrospect but have never actually experienced it. when you do, it will be like a slap in the face.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

its the difference between two people agreeing "yeah everybody sees a different shade of red" vs an outsider insisting you're blue.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

An epiphany, that turns out to not be an epiphany.

4 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 3

"You" don't exist.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Inverted, the versions of others that you hold are not the versions they hold themselves. Try to imagine how another sees him/herself.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Well yeah. Wait a minute. Are you people not intentionally doing this? You can be anything you want and you choose to be just you?

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

That's funny cuz my friends see me as a joke. They laugh a lot on me when I'm not even there.

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

The highest tier of philosophy is realizing how pointless philosophy is. All the answers to life's questions are stupid, so just do whatever

4 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 2

It’s a journey, not an end. You can only respect that outcome when you’ve dissected the arguments and realized this yourself.

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Yes, and I'm only making a joke at my own expense, really.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Nothing really matters, let's go watch TV.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No, that's just giving up

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Well, consider it this way: If the answer to "what is the meaning of life?" had an answer like "create the singularity and become god",

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

that'd be cool and useful. Except, the answer to that question is dumb. Meaning is something people made up and is not inherent to anything

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

And that's a pretty useless thing to know.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I don't think this is so cosmic or interesting. People perceive just about everything somewhat differently.

4 years ago | Likes 119 Dislikes 5

Yeah this simulation were living in is calibrated differently for each player

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

It's probably interesting if you've never thought about the concept by yourself... I hear such people exist.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

See the old question: Do you see the color red as I do?

4 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Qualia!

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I didn’t realize this was an old question and tried to explain to my brother how what if we both see red differently but we both call it red

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The Reddit/imgur sphere is easily impressed by the slightest introspection

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 4

I get why. Looking at the state of society it does seem like introspection is rare.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Still fun to think about ?

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I once had a thought that all people perceived time differently at different points of it. Turns out Stephen Hawking had the idea first

4 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 1

Older people percieve time differently than younger. Saccade (rapid eye movement from A to B) momentarily changes perception of time, too.

4 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Weird how I've never realised this despite moving eyes in the rhythm of music when playing. It's a great way to keep time in fast licks.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm high and might not be explaining it well. Like I could think it was today but at the same "point" you're perceiving its 2023. Like not

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

theory of relativity shit but maybe it is. I suck at science

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

No you got it, yes we’re all experiencing life here and now but that here and now is different to everyone. Probably in infinite ways too.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

That was well-said. Molecules and quantum theory and shit. Time is a very ill-defined concept because we can't prove it's modality

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

In fact the last book I read deals with this concept in a cool way. Sirens of Titan by Vonnegut

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thx, interesting topic, when I’m deep in thought about our perception of time it’s always “these modes! How can we prove them!”

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's but one of the reasons I don't interact with people. I don't want them getting *ANY* ideas about me!

I didn't get my first enemy until I was in my 20's. Feels weird knowing that bitch is out there, also thinking of me as 'that bitch'.

4 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

It didn't occur to me until a while later, but realistically people probably hated me throughout school and I had no idea

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Or... I was always your enemy but waited until this moment in this exact comment to reveal myself!!! And yes, 3 exclamation....

4 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

...marks SHOULD make you worry...

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Well maybe worry a little. I mean if you found my house and entered it there might be a confrontation but only if I look up from...

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

...my phone or computer. More likely you don't come looking, I never leave the house and this is nothing more than an idle threat....

What did Mario think about that?

4 years ago | Likes 39 Dislikes 1

Luigi said "Mario, you don'ta really know the real me!"

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

He took up plumbing.

4 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Mario stuck with the plumbing and adventuring. Luigi needed more. Needed to know what/who he really means when he says "Luigi numba 1!"

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

He has a ghost catching business and is a professional racer. He's doing good.

The last thing my social anxiety needed was the idea that people think about me.

4 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 0

They don’t

4 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

They do. Just not everyone. If you think about people then it's fair to expect thst people think about you.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Oh thank god. Wait.... I KNEW THEY DON'T CARE ABOUT ME.

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Does anyone else think this is sorta... Super obvious? Of course everyone views you differently, they don't know your thoughts, feelings, 1/

4 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 4

This was a mind-blowing concept when I was 9.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Yea, that's sorta how I felt... Same sorta time when I realised my teachers had their own lives and weren't just teachers, ya know?

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I don't know, it might not be super obvious to all ?

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Oh yea, I get that it definitely might not be, but I've seen this posted before with lots of upvotes, so I was wondering if others 1/

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

were also as confused as I, and didn't view this as a big revelation.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I think it's one of those things that if you stop and think about it, then it should be reasonably obvious, but until then, perhaps not.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Fair enough!

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Neurotypicals always alter who they are based on the group around them. I'm mildly autistic and my brother is an opposite/social chameleon.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Exactly! So is it just that people don't realise that both they and others are doing that constantly?

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I think most people consider changing "who" they are even if it's ubiquitous to be lying and therefore that can't be what they're doing.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Good points (this comment and the other)! I am definitely more on the social chameleon side of things, but I can definitely see how 1/

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

some people would view that as lying, both external people and as a refusal to self-identity it that way by people like that. Thank you!

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I know that as a child I had trouble recognizing it as normal. I just considered my brother to be a freakishly good liar.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

etc. How could they? First impressions also differ, which is very impactful to how people view you. And, of course, everyone has 2/

4 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

different things they like and dislike, so their opinion of you will differ, which also colours how they view you. Plus so many other 3/

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

things that effect how you are viewed. So this just sorta makes no sense to me... Anyone willing to explain if they disagree? Am curious 4/4

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

Some people need a reminder to be nice to other people, because other people don’t know how amazing you are

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I guess that's one way to look at it. Not sure how it's reminding people to be nice to others though.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

You may not be grasping the full weight of it. The full ramifications of it are pretty heavy, and it's not just about them perceiving you.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's also about you perceiving *them*. Like your mother. You love her or you hate her or whatever, but you think she's that person. But what
