Ok, first I do not like a runny fried egg. Just something about it, maybe texture, I do not care for. But, I made my normal breakfast of hard boiled eggs this morning and set the wrong time. Rushing to eat before work, I peeled them and noticed it felt soft. Whatever no time left to dabble into what my culinary skills have created. Salt and peppered I cut into the first egg releasing a flood of yolk. Cursing myself for what foul thing I created , I contemplated throwing it in the trash. Yet I was hungry and no time to cook anything else before work. Sticking my nose in the air I took my first bite....and let out an audible moan of delight. For some reason only known to the culinary Gods, I was in heaven. From now on, this is the way.

this is the way

Wait until you poach one, you'll do more than moan

Discovering the soft boiled egg is one of the pure events in someone's life. Just a wonderful experience.

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

The superior boiled egg.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I'll have stir-fried, hard boiled, omelette, heck even raw with rice. I don't mind runny, but if it's boiled it's gotta be all the way.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Poached egg on burgers, runny yolk fried on toast, soft boiled with ramen, real carbonara... Dang, thanks OP I'm hungry now.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Takes a bit of time but making a ramen egg is delightful. Delicious jammy yolk and the whites take on alot of flavor from the marinade

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Ajitsuke tamago :)

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Put that shit on toast and it changed breakfast for me.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Cooked white, runny yolk. Manna really.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

yo im happy for you op.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Pin hole in the top before cooking. 7-7:30 minutes in boiling water. Quickly cool off in cold water. Shell comes off easy 90% of the time.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I also put a couple drops of vinegar in the water - it keeps anything from leaking out of the shell.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Might be time to revisit sunnyside up or over easy. Setting the whites with a sunnyside up would probably solve your issues.

5 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 2

Wait till you hit medium boiled. Gelled yolk

5 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

7 minutes is peak egg boiling duration

so hard to accomplish consistancy...but when you hit it....oh god, money shot.

My father convinced me to eat well done steaks my whole life. Had my first rare steak at 28. I hate the time I have lost..

5 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

Oh yeah, soft boiled, mash with a fork to make little cubes of egg white bathed in yolk, little salt......

Did your clothes melt off?

5 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 3

Oh that Yuki at it again

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I learned to make sous vide eggs, now I can have a pasteurized softboiled egg on demand. I keep a stock in my fridge. Perfect way to kick

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Instant ramen up a notch, even better if you sous vide some chicken thigh too.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Runny yolks are great, it's the runny whites that I dont like.

5 years ago | Likes 50 Dislikes 2

Ill take them all. Whenever my gf cooks and asks "are these done enough?" that means they are already overcooked.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This! The runny white is to snot like!

5 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Same. Sunny-side up for the win!

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yeah... I've had eggs sunny side up, served damned near raw on top, white, yolk, whole damn egg. That's just friggin disgusting.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

*dry heave*

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Soak the unshelled eggs in some soy sauce, Mirin and sake for a delicious ramen egg!

Get yourself a Sous Vide Cooker... 300g steak seasoned with salt, pepper and olive oil into a bag and cooked for 4h ( 24h+ works too ? ) ¹

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

@ 54°C - Take out of bag, give it a quick wipe to remove excess juice and sear on each side on high heat for like 30sec - Done. Like this ²

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

you can basically prepare it at the evening ( bags filled with contents ) and yeet them into the Sous Vide when you leave the house to ³

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

have a 5min meal ready when you return from home with a pack of fries from like a Burger King ( I don't have a frier so that's what I do )

Murican? Parts of Europe so love the soft boiled egg that they have egg cups and little utensils to consume them. :)

5 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Dude tried to eat what he thought was a hard boiled egg with a fork. I promise you, this didn't happen in the States.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I eat them with a fork on a plate with salt and pepper.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You guys don't have Egg-Cups?

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My parents have an eye cup but it is not the same thing as an egg cup.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They're not common. Most people don't know they exist. We have a weird thing where we're proud that we "don't know the right fork".

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Not everyone is proud of not knowing the right fork. I’m not. It causes me quite a bit of anxiety.

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I'll one up you. Froached egg w/bacon marmalade.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Grandma always called them "cuppie eggs." I'm over 45 and yet still call them that instead of "poached." I'm pretty sure they're the ones.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Did she have a special pan she cooked them in? There was an insert in my gram's pan that had 4 circular openings that each held a special...

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

...tin cup.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yep. But maybe 6? Grandpa sold "Saladmaster" pans. 50 years later they're still going strong.

Easy poached egg: In a glass measuring cup put 2 cups of water, 1 tbsp white vinegar, 1 egg. Microwave 90s. Fish out poached egg.

5 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

i'm going to give that a try myself ... plain tap temperature or tap hot?

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Lukewarm/cold tap water. And the amount of water doesn't matter, just a half table spoon of vinegar per cup of water.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

totally gonna try this. previous ... experiments ... on the stove were less than satisfactory lol it's like i'm hungry now, not in 20mins

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What?!!!? Is the egg kept in the shell in this madness or what?

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

No, slipped into, same as if water was boiling on stove

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ok so I'm aware of various poaching methods. It's one of my favorite meals, and I've tried many ways to cook it. Are you heating the water

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

First in the microwave?

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

When I first had breakfast at my friend's house his mom made me a poached egg, I will never forget that egg. Parr of what makes that -

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

- stick out is that I have no gallbladder and she did that so I wouldn't get sick. I didn't even ask either.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

sunny side up eggs over cheese grits and crumbled bacon ... i could literally eat that every day

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Alton Brown method. 2 inch Boiling water in pan, eggs via ramekin slid in, turn off heat and cover for 4 minutes, scoop out with slotted spn

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I used to order that in restaurants (in the before times) and always felt like an 80 year old man. But it’s so good.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Poached egg on buttered bread was my go to breakfast for 1000’s of breakfasts.

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

don't need the ham. just some yolk absorbent toast, pepper (fresh ground) and salt and life is good.

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

The end of the line is whipping a raw egg into freshly steamed rice.. Sounds weird but is absolutely amazing.

5 years ago | Likes 33 Dislikes 0

The best thing my broke college self discovered was cracking an egg into fresh instant ramen

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Mashed potatoes with a raw egg, whip it in immediately after draining and returning to the pot. It's an eggscellent binder

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Add some Bonito flakes, a dash of sesame seeds, and some dashi mixed with soy sauce to taste.

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Ooh, just bought dashi. Already love the egg tempered into ramen trick, gonna try this tomorrow

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

How can that sound weird? It's in every restaurant's fried rice.

5 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

The egg shouldn't cook in there. I dont really know how to describe it but its just rice, raw egg and seasoning. Its really good

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's usually old rice, you want it cooked but not soft or else it'll turn to mush

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Freshly cooked and chilled rice also works

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You're thinking cooked eggs. This is different and oh so heavenly

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's scrambling an egg into some fried rice. This is cracking a raw egg over some cooked rice in a bowl, stirring a bit then eating.

5 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

That rice better be steaming hot for me to do that. Raw egg ain't my bag.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ahhh thanks. That does sound good.

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

It's pretty fucking awesome. Little soy sauce, little msg, some sesame seeds.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Makin a Benny. Throw some sautéed spinach on and Florentine it!!!! Ohhhhh. Yeaaaa!!

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Replace the the ham with avacado and smoked salmon. Top with hollandaise, a dash of "everything" bagel seasoning and a sprinkle of green...

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

...onion. You're welcome.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

that makes me want to vomit. Smoked salmon is awful and fatty, avocado is awful and fatty. Poached egg and hollandaise only good things here

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Don't forget the capers! I gotta have capers with my lox

Any runny yolk is yummy, but also got turnt on 55 degree French eggs while back...it's roughly 120 degrees Fahrenheit, heat water to (1/2)..

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Soft boiled eggs are divine, I think a lot of people are just squeamish about them because they don't seem to be "properlyu" cooked....

5 years ago | Likes 178 Dislikes 1

Gently drop eggs into boiling water for 5 minutes. Rinse eggs in cold tap water. Open from wide end of egg.

Dippy egg & soldiers were my favourite breakfast as a kid. Firm white, runny yolk perfect for buttery toast

5 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 0

Soft boiled eggs & soldiers, now we're talking. That really does bring back memories.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Introduced egg and soldiers to the SO last weekend! Such a game changer <3 still my favourite breakfast!

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Egg is a lot creamer and tasty then it gets credit for. It's that lovely custardy taste. Butter + sugar + egg, holy trinity of baking.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

So they worry about food poisoning or whatever. I make my own mayonnaise so have no such qualms about undercooked/raw egg.

5 years ago | Likes 35 Dislikes 0

Its the American way of how eggs are processed and shipped that makes it more common, also the exaggeratiom of how common food poisoning is

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

I'm not squeamish at all, I just don't like the texture of the whites. But I love runny yolks so I do sunny-side up.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

How do you make your own mayo?

5 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Egg and oil, mustard helps. Egg & oil needs to be room temp. Start rly rly slow

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Pasteurised eggs, oil (I use sunflower), mustard powder, salt and a touch of lemon juice, though I play fast & loose with ingredients.

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Eggs and oil.

5 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 0

You need some vinegar/lemon juice, and a splash of water to let it out.

5 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

U add the acid after. The process...

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

Nope. Definitely not.

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

If I remember correctly it's perfectly safe to eat uncooked yolks the danger lies in the whites. I may be talking out my ass though

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

A lot of people only use yolks which is understandable, but as long as the eggs are pasteurised then both the yolk and albumen are edible.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Shit son, in Japan we eat raw egg over rice. It's mostly safe.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

We eat non pasteurized raw egg all the time in France too

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That shit's delicious.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm extremely squicked out by runny egg in any form. Just tastes gross to me.

5 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 3

I'm with ya. Given the choice between a firm egg and a bogey textured one, I'll take the 'overcooked' one every time.

5 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

Yep. Runny egg yolks have the texture of snot ?

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Same. It's not even that it's undercooked, raw egg as an ingredient in things is fine. I just don't like it on its own.

5 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

I'm an over easy person myself, so some cooked texture, while preserving the gooey yolks for my toast.

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I go w over medium. Firm whites w a runny yolk. Over easy always has slightly runny whites which I don't like.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

^This! Everything you could want, crispy edges, firm whites, runny yolks... Heavenly!
