A dark suitcase showed up at my door, a leather journal tucked with it. A note attached read: "Some history is best left forgotten." It was unsigned.

Inside were a set of books and some supplies, old and weathered. The books were journals, detailing the work of some intrepid souls in a place called Arkham, Massachusetts some 80 years ago and the unnatural horrors that beset them.

Hi everyone! Thanks for reading this far. Over the last 6 months, I've been thinking about making artistic versions of game cases as a challenge to myself. During Christmas I got laid off, so I decided to go ahead and do it. Not finished yet, but I wanted to share my progress. In the above, you can see how all the game pieces are held inside custom containers to give a thematic vibe to the whole box. I'll show some of the individual components below.

These are really cool. Called Book Boxes from the hobby store, they look like old books, but have a hollow space inside.

Interior with the padded inlay I created. Each book holds the encounter cards for one case of the Arkham Horror LCG (if you are not familiar with the game, that's one play session).

What the interior looked like before the inlay, with cards all over the place.

Start of the inlay, before gluing.

Super snug fit! I was impressed with myself (until I needed to put the fabric in).

Sedative case, which holds the horror (sanity damage, because it's arkham horror, you know?) tokens. It's hand painted and lettered. (Sedatives are used in other Arkham Horror games to cure the mental stress of seeing dark horrors, so I thought it was appropriate).

Busted up medical/bandage box that contains stamina (health) tokens. Again hand weathered and painted.

Pass book that contains the player tokens and is still a work in progress, though I think it looks fine-ish now. I was thinking passport, but it's a bit small. Maybe a ticket book for transit?

Interior of the previous, with the tokens displayed.

Money pouch that holds the resource tokens used for playing things in the game. I plan on making a case for this to make it look more like a wallet.

Previous with the tokens displayed.

Chance bag. I like this one, because it's simple. You pull tokens instead of roll dice to determine success (and there are many more "-" tokens than 0 or "+" tokens...).
My next project will probably be to make custom tokens.

"Leather" journal. This holds all of the player cards for deck building. It's actually an Ultra Pro card binder covered in leather vinyl, which can be seen in the next image.

Cover work, as done by me.

I added some bronze tips my fiancée found to the corners to give it a more interesting look (and to cover some issues with the corners). I want to weather it and etch something into it (maybe the elder sign?).

Another glamor shot.

I'm still working on a few things, such as a storage solution for clue/doom tokens. I also want to etch/add the scenario icon to the book binding to indicate which one they contain, and a few more odds and ends.

Thanks for reading! I'm really pleased with how it has turned out so far! This probably took me about a week to put together (probably 6 or so hours of actual work, so far) and probably more money than I should spending.

Sorry I have no cats to post, but I will try my hardest to summon one for next time.

Have a happy new year everyone!

Hobby, you doing it right.
