Take it from a legion beta tester, it's worth it. They really got their shit together with this one.
That's how they do it. They make it seem super interesting and then you realize it's shit all the same. WoW hasn't been good in ages.
Played on a vanilla server a while back and got my nostalgia glasses broken. God damn vanilla was a shit game compared to now.
It had its flaws, but ultimately it was better because you had to cooperate. 99% of that social interaction is gone, it's sad.

By extension, there is no character investment anymore. Sure, I can level a new class... no it's not a big deal. Ugh.
That's because you're supposed to have heirlooms that level with you. Or run dungeons and get upgrades constantly.
Because this is an event that won't always be there. Also the event gives you gear .
I wish they had real phased worlds so you could progress from vanilla->BC->LotLK->Cata. Instead, they're busy destroying vanilla servers.
They have a legal obligation to or they lose rights to parts of WoW.
Who knows, word in the grapevine is they are thinking about creating legacy servers so while you still have to pay it would be vanilla.

There's actually less content experienced because you're rushed through it so fast. You super outlevel a zone before you complete 50% of it.
I would say that given how everything is served on a silver plate in modern WoW, it doesn't seem quite as vast.

Grinding for gear is the worst. 6 people in your party need the sparkle necklace of +4 damage you have to run the dungeon 150 times.
I went back and played on an EQ progression server a while back. Sitting in a group in LGuk for 4+ hours gets old fast.

I think leveling and exploring zones and doing stuff was part of the intended experience back then. Endgame is everything now.
