After a night of cocaine, heroine and drinking I just pop a Kingsford briquette or two before bed and wake up feeling great! Kingsford. +1

In the first half I was getting ready to downvote. Fucking pseudoscientific “wellness” bullshit.

5 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

don't forget that grapefruit also messes up your enzymes (i.e. cytochrome P450) in random ways. So this stuff might be dangerous

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Wait a tick, ibuprofen latte IS my breakfast....

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yep. Grapefruit (juice) is the one thing I can't have any more due to my medication. Shame, I liked it, but it's an acceptable trade-off.

Side effects include diarrhea AND constipation. Dialectic shitrealism

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Best way to "detox" is to eat your colorful veggies; esp things in the cabbage family, they boost your liver and kidneys and they do detox

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

The SO is on a medication that makes grapefruit and grapefruit products lethal. The charcoal is news to me but you learn every day.

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

my mother loves grapefruits she had to give them up due to her medication

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

My paramedic brother calls activated charcoal "kitty litter for your insides"

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

*Inconspicuously tries to put away the cup of Ibuprofen Espresso" Nope, definitely wouldn't make a latte, no siree.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Activated charcoal is just carbon. There's a reason why like is carbon-based: that's stuff binds with everything. Don't drink this shit.

5 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

THIS THIS A THOUSAND TIMES THIS. You don’t have “toxins” and there isn’t a chemical equation for a “toxin.” A juice cleanse only cleanses $

5 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 3

And "Natural" isn't "Good" or "A Remedy". There is no distinction between natural and artificial in chemistry. It's all chemistry, period.

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

The closest you could get would be if your body stored actual toxic materials in with your fat cells and your "juice" cleanse let it out(1)

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

from weight-loss but then its actually, y'know, poisoning you. (2)

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

You know what they call natural medicine that works? Medicine.

5 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

o/ can I get an ibuprofen latte too?

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

An ibuprofen latte? That sounds delicious! - signed, a veteran

5 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

yeah but they only work if you change your socks and drink sixteen litres of that weird distilled until it tastes wrong water.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Ugh, I can still taste that warm, bad smelling, plastic infused tap water that came out of your canteen. Its been 19 years now haha

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I dont take meds, so ill make all my food black if i want to

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Is true. I drank a bottle Of cough syrup when I was a kid cos it tasted so good. Had to drink charcoal to absorb it

5 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

They wouldn't let you just ride out the trip?

5 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

If it was the kind with codiene probs not

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

How many minutes before you are hobbling towards the crapper?

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

wait, serious question right now... would this bullshit bind with all that weed i smoked? asking for a friend who needs to pass a piss test.

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

from what I've been reading, it only binds to stuff inside the digestive track. It won't extract anything from your blood or lungs, so...

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

ah, motherfuck. me, i mean, my friend is gonna be real disappointed to hear.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

By definition, alternative medicine has not been proven to work. Do you know what they call alternative medicine that's been proven to work?

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Medicine.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

A bottle of garbage.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Instructions unclear, just ate a bag of Kingsford

5 years ago | Likes 34 Dislikes 0

Congrats on eating 10 pounds of sand, also sorry about the cancer.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You have to light them on fire first to activate the charcoal! Silly you!

5 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

If you insist on consuming activated charcoal...just make sure you do it a few hours after taking your pills. It'll only absorb stuff-

5 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 2

present in your GI tract, thankfully most meds get into your bloodstream pretty rapidly.

5 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 2

I will say, most of the time if I get sick, I'll pop a couple of activated-charcoal tablets, and usually it clears up within 24 hours.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 5

Just found an ecstasy rehab article that said activated charcoal could be used within an hour to 'reduce' drug absorbtion.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Any details on how to calculate how long you have to take it depending on the drug? Any details on its effect on recreational drugs?

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No idea, not a pharmacologist, sorry. Are you ok?

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Haha yea, I'm fine. Just seemed like it might be usefull to have it if I, or people im with are doing mdma or something.

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Should be executed

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

I feel like that’s a bit extreme lol

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Yeah probably. But when i get done with my 10 hour IT shift and only two applications have the decency to have night mode. I wonder..

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I just assumed it was a holdover from ink on paper. You're probably too late to get whoever started that.

If you do not have an illness that requires the medicine, do not take the medicine.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Don't take it when you are healthy

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

If sick = no therefore take = no

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You should only be taking it if you're actually need it.

5 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

The only reasons you should consume activated charcoal is if you are currently sick, poisoned, or have been directed to do so by a MD

5 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Activated charcoal can remove medications that you may be prescribed and jeopardize your health or treatment.

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

If you are on meds seek medical advice prior to doing a “cleanse” or any diet change to verify you will not cause harm to yourself.

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

So let's say you drink it with alcohol, what happens?

5 years ago | Likes 93 Dislikes 2

Nothing. You get drunk.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Activated charcoal doesn't bind alcohol. Nothing would happen - doctor

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You activate unlimited alcohol consumption.

5 years ago | Likes 80 Dislikes 0

Sounds expensive

5 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Ya wanna see me turn into a super alcoholic 3? It's beyond a super alcoholic 2, an ascended alcoholic

5 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

You take it before you drink so it's in the stomach when the alcohol shows up, and it helps avoid a hangover.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Taking an antioxidant like NAC (n-acetyl l-cysteine) to break down the acetaldehyde produced by you’re liver is the way to go.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It does help in my experience. Mostly took it if I drank too much and or before bed. It also dehydrates you though so def want water too

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My sister said you won't be hungover but I'm on meds so I haven't tried it

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Makes sense if there is still alcohol in your system that hasn't been absorbed, the sleeping absorption has to be part of hangovers

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Or after a night of drinking?

5 years ago | Likes 33 Dislikes 0

Taking vitamin b1 before heavy drinking can minimize a hang over.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Asking the real questions.

5 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

It only binds with stuff in the stomach and in the ileum and colon. That is, stuff not yet in the bloodstream. So not really a hangover cure

5 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Buuuttt when you drink it takes stime for the alcohol to absorb, so if you drank it with some still in your stomach, would it help something

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Checked and apparently it doesn't bind alcohol.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Shit like a pet coon.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It would be interesting

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Used to take an activated charcoal pill just before a heavy night out drinking,or just after if I forgot.Seemed to help but possibly placebo

5 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 1

For one, to mitigate poisoning, you have to take not one tablet of activated charcoal but at least a whole blister of them, preferably more

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Alcohol then becomes just lots of calories and no fun, like it is for us who metabolize alcohol stupid-fast. Boring and expensive!

5 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

By the power of vodka!!!

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

"boring and expensive" see Everclear. Cheap and a small amount goes a long way. Never drink straight.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Absolutely agree.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Natural remedies CAN be good, but they should still be treated the same as you would pharmaceutical remedies.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

They can be, if there is something to remedy. As the post said, charcoal does work as medicine

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Nightshade tea is the perfect cure for migraines. Make it wrong though, and it will cure your migraine, and end your student loans.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Honestly ask most if these people to even define what qualifies as a 'natural' remedy and they can't

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

natural remedies that work well are often processed and turned into medicine, yes natural remedies work but we've developed ways for them>

5 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

>to work better and to our advantages. People need to stop acting like medicine is this alien thing scientists made mixing poison.

Political problems and police brutality plaguing your country, try all natural WOLVES

5 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

Unfortunately canine units are used by the police, and they have zero compunction about brutally killing any that aren't on their side.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I was about to ask what artificial wolves were, but then...that's basically just dogs.

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Look, I'm willing to give it a go

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Natural remedies (like various teas!) do actually work for minor things and are good. But none will do shit like cure cancer or COVID-19.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

There was a post. Jasmine tea for an upset stomach, chemo for cancer. Nothing wrong with “natural” remedies but like, listen to a doctor.

5 years ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 1

1/3 Just to clarify, I am not against any medicine that works, either natural or synthetic. What grinds my gears is people stating and

5 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

2/3 believing that everything "natural" is both effective and *harmless*; and that any man made medicine is "unnatural", or at least

5 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

My go-to counter example for that is a nice, simple, naturally occurring mineral. Asbestos.

5 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Mine is tobacco and poisonous mushrooms: very natural and organic!

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

3/3 "suspicious". They always have anecdotal evidence (always positive of course), but never a truly exhaustive study.

5 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Agreed! That’s why quotes around natural. Everything can have issues.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Side effects of taking this synthetic, pharmaceutically produced medication may cause liver failure, immune suppression, blood clots..

5 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 36

Cancer, heart palpitations, sudden mood swings, vomiting, diarrhea. But don’t worry! It’s perfectly safe and approved so buy it for $900.

5 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 31

So your source is a paper that says at least half of those deaths were from people refusing to follow instructions anyway?

5 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 2

And the other half was people taking them correctly.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 11

People are downvoting like Pharmaceutical Companies haven’t releasing multiple drugs that have hurt or killed people.

5 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 28

Downvoting because Nature also has produced some stuff that hurts and kills people... like, a lot of stuff...

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

More like people downvoting your dumb whataboutism bullshit.

5 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 1

Ok! I guess the Opioid epidemic is preferable to natural treatments for pain like marijuana. Pharmaceutical companies don’t give af.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 14

This is true but natural medicines have also killed people so u choose

5 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Considering your username, I choose weed to naturally treat my anxiety versus Xanax.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 5

Anyone know where I can pick up an ibuprofen latte, sounds like just what I need.

5 years ago | Likes 2547 Dislikes 1

ooh girl I had one of those once and it did not end well, unless you enjoy catheters

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

It's called Irish Coffee

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No shit that sounds amazing. Better than my usual ibuprofen-Cheerios-egg scramble

5 years ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 0

In the morning, your medicine cabinet.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I think you can find those at Cafe Advil.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Sounds perfect actually

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'd prefer an enema!

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'd have three of those a day, please.

Yeah I’m here for that, double please

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

seriously an ibuprofen iced coffee sounds fucking perfect

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I also need my serotonin sunday

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Caffeine and ibuprofen? I've got heartburn just thinking about it! I'll still take two, please.

5 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Ok so my dad is a family doc, he has told us many times that we should take medicine with a LITTLE bit of caffeine if we need it asap.

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

That's probably true. Excedrin is basically just 1 aspirin + 1 tylenol + 1 coffee's worth of caffeine.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Whoever wrote that last part must be young! I get the comparison theyre going for, but an ibuprofen latte sounds amazing! Bad choice

5 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I was just thinking that, mmmmmmm

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Reason 1 why I dont drink. So I can take ibuprofen when ever I want.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I thought it was only Tylenol (acetaminophen) that you can’t mix with alcohol.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That’s what I understood as well.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The liver toxicity of Tylenol is extremely close to the recommended dose. I won’t even keep it in my house.

5 years ago | Likes 60 Dislikes 3

Sounds delish

5 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

AHCTUALLY - they've proven ulcers are due to an infection, and can be cured with antibiotics. If you have an ulcer and your Dr isn't aware,

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Ulcers have multiple causes, including H. Pylori *and* the abuse of NSAIDs.

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

this

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's mainly caused by H. Pylori but not uniquely.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I don't know what PPI is but that's my baby nephew's word for coloring. I don't think that helps ulcers, but it is soothing.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

PPI are a type of medication that inhibits acid secretion in the stomach, reducing heartburn. Omeprazole (Prilosec) is a common example.

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Proton pump inhibitors

5 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Half a bottle of minty chalk isn't the right course of action?

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Those are antacids

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

also what's been said here for charcoal applies directly to grapefruit juice too.

5 years ago | Likes 392 Dislikes 21

Grapefruit does the opposite of charcoal. Charcoal blocks, grapefruit increases. Take adderall with a grapefruit drink and see what happens

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ya, grapefruit and Effexor fucked me over for a while

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

No it doesn't

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I knew charcoal was for poisoning but never knew the specifics. Also never knew about grapefruit which freaked me out cuz I love it

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

1) No. Grapefruit interferes with absorption of drugs that are metabolized by a specific enzyme. The mechanism is totally different, and

5 years ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 0

2) applies to a much narrower range of drugs. Grapefruit juice won't bind to any old thing in your stomach like charcoal will.

5 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

Not really. Grapefruit juice is a lot less predicatable and doesnt treat all compounds the same.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Throw in some st.johns wart tithe mix!

5 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Everybody told me this was the "cure" for my ADHD for years. Assholes.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That being said, what kind of maniac just straight up drinks grapefruit juice? Grapefruit is super bitter

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

If you need 20mg of adderall but only have a 10mg tablet - that’s when you want to use grapefruit juice.

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I like it a lot personally, but I hate unsweetened tea or coffee. Developed taste?

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's fun to drink if you take one of those miracle berry lozenges that makes it taste different!

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I used to eat one everyday in highschool...then I started taking meds and couldn't eat grapefruit anymore which made me sad

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Plus my brother worked in a psych ward of a prison and they had to list grapefruit as an allergy for some patients because it would boost

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Their meds and make them go crazy or OD depending

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You've never had a greyhound?

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I miss grapefruit. I had a weird week when I was drinking La Croix Pamplemousse (delicious) before my wife informed me of my idiocy.

5 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

Look at the ingredients. Grapefruit isn’t one. You’re good to go.

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Unsure how much grapefruit is in the la Croix... Likely just oils so it would do very little.. not a doctor just my hunch. Of course check.

5 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

It's La Croix, so there's approximately 1 drop of grapefruit

5 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

The amount of grapefruit flavor of a person in an adjacent room ate one then burped. Am not a food scientist

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

One drop per boxcar of soda water...La Croix is homeopathic soda.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Isn't it just Terpenes not oils in those?

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

They have a grapefruit tied to a string that the cans bump on their way by !

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I've always felt like the flavor was from someone thinking REALLY hard about grapefruit next to the packaging line.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Not true. Charcoal will block absorption of everything and grapefruit will only block specific medications. Also, grapefruit can boost them

5 years ago | Likes 111 Dislikes 2

Nope

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Boosts opiates, I know that

5 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

boosts ecstasy

https://www.todaysdietitian.com/newarchives/121610p26.shtml table at endis specific, i meant in general think for yourself and be warey

5 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 5

I get you may have meant that but that isn’t even close to what you wrote. What you wrote was misinformation. Too much of that right now.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

No. You said what's said in the post about charcoal can be directly applied to grapefruit juice as in, you're saying grapefruit juice 1/2

5 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

shouldn't be taken regularly unless you have medial reasons to. I would be more careful as to not spread misinformation 2/2.

5 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

Really? Why?

5 years ago | Likes 91 Dislikes 0

True of Zoloft too

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

it's not the same as activated charcoal, but it can boost the effects of some drugs, and diminish the effects of others. If anything you're

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

taking can be effected by grapefruit juice it will say so on the pill bottle or package insert. It's a non-issue for most people

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They both nasty

It inhibits a protein that breaks down certain medications, so you can end up accidentally overdosing because it’s not being broken down 1

I used to take it with opiates hoping it would make them last longer.

I've done this with caffeine

It can also do the opposite. Sometimes those enzymes actually activate medications, and grapefruit juice stops that process.

2 at the rate it should be and your regular dose just keeps compounding because your previous dose wasn’t metabolized. Phenobarbital’s one

This is news to me but probably should be common knowledge.

Just FYI for any drug affected by grapefruit juice it will be mentioned on the bottle or package insert.

I think it's the citric acid.

I think it's a specific amino acid in grapefruit. That's why medications will specifically say, "Do not take with grapefruit"

Recently had grapefruit without knowing it messes with my meds. Had an allergic reaction, it scared the shit out of me.

The most common side effect is that the drug metabolises faster than intended, making time release medications potentially dangerous

Dr. Here. Gfruit juice boosts a protein (cyp450) that breaks down certain meds. Charcoal blocks some meds from ever being absorbed (as above

Cimetidine (Tagamet) too, right? Don't think OTC meds won't interact with what you take, especially if what you take ends in -codone.

It doesn’t boost the enzyme, it blocks it, meaning a larger amount is able to enter your blood stream. Am a pharmacist.

Doctor or pharmacist

In the US, pharmacists are styled “DPh” or “PharmD” - Doctor of Pharmacy.

MD or PharmD is what I meant as no one really refers to pharmacists as doctors.
