Aircraft mechanic. Bored at work. I have to stop fixing things so fast. Ask me something. Plane related or not.

What are the most common things you fix?

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Most common? I'd say changing tires and brakes. Been fixing a lot of bird strikes and lightning strikes lately as well.

How many years of school did you go through to get that job?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

2 years for the airframe and power plant license. Can get any job in the U.S. With it working on planes.

Where do the planes go for major maintenance like engine replacement

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

A company maintenance base with a hangar. Companies have several bases all over the country

What's for dinner tonite?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Chicken alfredo. Homemade. With broccoli and a good scotch.

Boeing or Airbus? From a maintenance standpoint, of course.

I would have to side with Airbus. They make their planes quite maintenance friendly.

What are the lights underneath a plane for? You see them flying overhead at night with two white lights on in the centre.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

If it's the flashing lights you're referring too those are anti collision lights so they are easily spotted by other aircraft

how can we get cheaper flights

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Find another source of fuel airplanes can run on that doesn't require oil

Something went boom and then it got super hot and then too cold and stuff stuck together and there was just stuff. Floating around.

Thoughts on letting pets fly in their kennels?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

In the plane I say no. I flew once and some lady brought her cat onboard (I'm allergic). It was horrible. In the cargo is a bad experience.

Ever had a quicky in the baggage deck?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Nope. Just the lavatory.

Why not make a big post of the weirdest stuff you've come across?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Oh. I'm working on it

What's the standard checkup procedure between flights when there's a quick turnaround?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Usually the pilots do a quick walk around to make sure everything is still there. MX will do a routine check every 5 days or less.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

But like engine checks or anything? They don't happen? Or is engine/wing/flap status reported via electronics?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's reported electronically as far as health goes. Like oil level, flap position and so on. Pilots usually just walk around for damage

What's the one thing you weren't able to fix so fast?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Flight attendant fell through the floor in the galley where they keep the drinks. Had to tear apart the whole interior to fix the floor.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Wow that's a weird thing to happen. Thanks for the answer!
