This bald eagle was stuck dangling for 2 days

Tangled in rope and caught on a tree branch 75 feet (22 meters) above the ground, the Department of National Resources were unable to help the bird.

Meet Jason and Jackie Galvin

They were having none of that "out of our jurisdiction" shit and decided to take matters into their own hands. Jason had served 2 tours in Afghanistan and was an excellent shot. He felt he could do something to help.

Meet Jason's Ruger 10-22

Jason, a sharpshooter, decided to aim for the branch/rope to release the bird. A couple hours and 150 shots later the eagle was safely on the ground and being brought to the Raptor Center.

What did they name the bird?

You're goddamned right they named that bird Freedom. Here he is being brought to the sanctuary. He's healthy, so yes, freedom will fly again.

Im sorry but where did those 150 shots land? What goes up eventually comes down. Thats potentially really dangerous.

How many shots would you need to split a 2 inch branch 75 feet away with bullets less than .3 of an inch in diameter?

The Raptor Center in MN brought an eagle to my school a few years back. He pooped all over the gym floor

Now that's freedom

So 149 bullets raining down on the neighborhood?

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 4

Yes. But, in fairness, that neighborhood was FULL of douchebags.

That's not a bald eagle... Golden

People are going to say "150 shots! I could do that in one!" But they never tried to shoot a rope with something dangling from it.

It was also really windy and other branches were in the way. He ended up shooting through the 2 inch thick branch.

Much less an animal scared for its life and probably rocking and jerking it around.

It seems like using a bigger bullet would have helped? I can't imagine how many direct hits it takes to cut a 2" branch with .22LR.

At least 150.

A Vietnam war vet a couple miles away has just dug his 3rd fox hole in two days

Given current events, I'm surprised it's not his ninth. Combined with the fireworks... My grandpa died from Agent Orange complications.

Shortly after 9 / 11 he flipped his shit. You couldn't throw a rock without him flipping shit. The man was only 68. 17 when he joined.
