Nah, it's just that the car should be towed to the shop or the tire should be brought to him. Instead, Tesla does both for the customer.

Many Mercedes Sprinters are retrofitted with larger alternators/generators, so its likely he just left the 642 diesel engine running.

Look up diesel-electric transmission. It's used for heavy duty stuff, but for cars the losses are too high and they tend to be rather heavy
