You know those movies that were AMAZING to you as a kid that you'd watch over and over again? ...But then you watch them as an adult you're like "oh this is truly awful." This is my list of those. Tell me yours.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 3 (1993)

The turtles are sent back in time/sent to Japan. As a grown up I'm a sucker for time travel, so I totally get why THIS is the one I latched on to. But I rewatched it recently and... this movie is SO bad you guys.

Jack (1996)

10 year old looks 40. Robin Williams. I thought this was the height of comedy + drama as a kiddo. As an adult, I recognize that it's made up of 10% uncomfortable ideas about adults hitting on kids, 10% actual decent movie, and 80% fart jokes.

King Ralph (1991)

It's Princess Diaries, but with John Goodman. Oh who am I kidding? That's the best-sounding premise ever! But it's exactly as predictable as it sounds.

Honey We Shrunk Ourselves (1997)

Nothing says quality quite like straight-to-video. Watching a bunch of middle schoolers "party" while parents are gone seemed so cool. Spoiler alert: 100% of the kids in this movie are super uncool.

Ladybugs (1992)

Jesus Christ, you guys...

As a kid this movie was a funny film about a boy dressing up as a girl to play soccer. As an adult?? YOU GUYS I LEGIT THOUGHT "I NEED AN ADULT." It's got some super creepy sexualization of teen girls. Also it's just a gigantic vehicle for Rodney Dangerfield one-liners.

Free Willy 2 (1995)

This one isn't THAT bad, really. But I was inexplicably absolutely obsessed with it. I wanted a native american orca whale necklace so badly for so many years that my grandpa finally MADE me one.

Beethoven's 2nd

Why was I so into sequels? As a grown-up, I can't get past the fact that the plot of this movie is driven by a father who literally doesn't know how to tell his children they can't have FIVE GIANT DOGS AS PETS IN THEIR NORMAL SIZED HOUSE. The fabulously gorgeous evil woman bad guy was the main draw for me, I think.

Casper (1995)

This movie was amazing to me. Like, A. MAZ. ING. I refuse to watch it as an adult because I'm afraid it's bad. Can someone tell me if it's as bad as I fear? Thank you.

Also, TELL ME YOURS. What movies were your inexplicably obsessed with as a kid that you rewatched as an adult and thought "why this movie?"

Spy kids 3, and Shark Boy and Lava Girl.

Superman III, with Richard Pryor. Thought it was good as a kid. However, Superman IV even young me knew was crap.

Big Trouble in Little China is... Still awesome. Fight me.

I loved Spy Kids when it came out. Rewatched it a year or so ago. So bad. Like, why are there people that are entirely thumbs? Why?!

My friend's little brother forced us to watch that movie everytime he came over

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I saw that thing in theaters while developing a 102° fever. 8 year old me started hallucinating during an already rather trippy film.

9 years ago | Likes 57 Dislikes 0

I was a bit older, but I saw it with my little brother. It was the first time I realized I wasn't with "it". They changed what "it" was.

Surf Ninjas. Only the Strong. House Arrest. Big Bully. Carpool. ugh.... my childhood was so awesome.

9 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Oh. My. God. I forgot about Surf Ninjas. I loved that movie. The crazy white friend was so funny. I really liked House Arrest too.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The white guy is Rob Schneider.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I rewatched House Arrest recently and still liked it enough. Carpool and Big Bully have been randomly popping into my head too!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Casper is still a quality watch. Though it's less a comedy and more of a rumination on death and loss with a kid-friendly ghost as the lead.

Masters of the Universe was on Netflix. I was like, oh fuck yea! Then about 15 minutes in I was like, oh fuck no.

Silence of the lambs is no where near as quirky and light hearted as I do fondly recall.

Jean Reno Godzilla, Nutty Professor, Baby's Day Out, Inspector Gadget (Broderick one)

Also, the Power Rangers film with Ivan Ooze.

do you not like to party with your peeps? cruise and creep?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I love that movie so much.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The Master of Disguise and (I'm sad to admit) Phantom Menace.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

there are some golden cheesy parts in that movie though! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2n106G5_xlk

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Oh I definitely laughed my ass off when I rewatched it, but definitely not for the reasons I originally like it.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Touche, I can agree to that 100%

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

For me it was those barbarian movies: Hawk the Slayer; the Beastmaster; etc. I still like the Conan movies though:)

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Same.A lot of "80s Sword n Sorcery" flics though some have good moments.I was a fan of REH's writing anyways.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Casper hasn't changed. It's still a good movie.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

For me it was the Power Rangers movie with the original power rangers and Warriors of Virtue. Still nostalgic AF about them.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I've been trying to find power rangers on VHS cause my kids have a player in their room. Also because I want it

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I loved the Mario Brothers movie as a kid (I can't be the only on). Why didn't my parents tell me the truth? That movie is awful!

9 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 2

*one, not on.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I don't know... I mean, it's bad, but I find it enjoyably bad. It's so stupid and ludicrous that it's actually kind of fun.

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Masters of the Universe I still watch it even though its terrible.

9 years ago | Likes 178 Dislikes 0

They need to do a reboot on this SO BAD

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Kind of hard to hate it when Skeletor is just that awesome.

9 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Frank Lagella was awesome. I'm pretty sure I could quote that movie line for line.

I knew TMNT 3 was bad when it came out. I was 7.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Shark Boy and Lava Girl is my favorite movie. I watch it all the time.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I have to agree with you on that one. It's a guilty pleasure really. Along with the Van Damme Street Fighter movie.

9 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 0

"...but for me it was Tuesday."

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Love Street Fighter. The part where Zangief yells "Quick change the channel" was my favorite part.

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Don't forget the Bison monologue about it only being a Tuesday for him as well.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Casper is 100000x better as an adult. Tried and tested many a time

9 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

I cried my eyes out too! One of the movies ive found to be much more emotional from what i remember as a kid. Edward Scissorhands kills me

The never ending story, not that great as an adult

9 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 4

Rewatching that as an adult was one of the worst decisions I ever made.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I watch it for the nostalgia, I can't try to watch it objectively. The opening credits start, I feel 5yo again, and everything is okay.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Oh man. I still think it's amazing and I'm still to this day waiting for my luck dragon. Inshallah.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Read the book. It's better than the movie on all levels.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The book terrified me as a kid, when Bastion gets inside and starts forgetting who he was and what it means to be loved.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I grew up with German fairytails and was thusly pretty acclimated to scary stuff as a kid.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Mortal kombat. I can't describe my disappointment when I re watched that movie

9 years ago | Likes 142 Dislikes 5

This is where you fall.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The first Mortal Kombat movie is legitimately good. "Those were 500 dollar sunglasses, asshole"

9 years ago | Likes 33 Dislikes 0

This is where you fall down.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

What!?! The first one is still great. Now part 2....well....that doesn't exist. IT DOESNT EXIST!!!

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

I LOVED it as a kid. I thought it was SO cool. I'm scared to rewatch it. Reptile fight was the coolest part to me

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

That is by far the best part. He's my favorite character as well.

Oops. *better than its sequal*

"Mother... You're alive?" - "Too bad YOU.... will die!"

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

As a kid I saw the sequel in theaters only after we attempted to see it the first time and my dad got in a fight outside the theater

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Did he make a joke about the fight being Mortal Kombat afterwards? It's pretty much required for a dad.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

HE didn't, we were banned from the theater. I did, ""mom it was better than the movie ever could be!"

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

::fight context:: long line for Little Mermaid. Guys showed up cussing, Dad said not to, they said make us. Dad beat them with an umbrella

I loved the books, I'd be afraid to watch the movie

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Remember how the vhs came shaped like a cupboard with a little toy person? I loved that touch as a kid.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

We bought this one recently. I still enjoyed watching it with my kids, but it's absolutely not half as good as I used to think it was.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Not a movie, but when the Iron Man movie came out they put the 90's cartoon back on... was so excited. Just fucking awful :(

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

There's an episode that's super goddamn convoluted. The Mandarin sinks this Russian sub to turn the sailors into zombies, to bore a hole in

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I think that just happened to be the one I saw...

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

to a rock tunnel to invade britain or something with the zombies, but he has to distract Stark when the sub goes down so he can do it, then

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

all this other stuff happens, and the dumb skull guy with the glaive magically fixes all the zombie sailors. Reset button! So why all the

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

rigmarole?!?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

But... but the necklace came with the VHS of Free Willy 2.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

What??? *googles* .......So I've totally HEARD of people completely misremembering details before... BUT I... Papaw made it... I thought?!??

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

I've read that when you revisit a memory it becomes less accurate, skewed by emotion and wishful thinking, maybe

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My grandpa got into woodworking around that same time so I must have just skewed the memories... But STILL it's weird to misremember

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Very weird. I've had similar run-ins with memories, it's a little unsettling.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This lapse in memory brought to you by 20 years elapsing, 10 of which were filled with alcohol.
