My wife and I game occasionally, and we wanted a nice big desk and some nice equipment to do it on.

Built a new rig for myself, and my wife uses a Razer Blade Stealth with Core Dock. We picked up a couple of Predator Z35s, some components, and the rest is... well, it's below.

More details on the actual desk are towards the bottom.

This is my first post on Imgur/Reddit - do people link to their Instagram and stuff? If so, you can checkout other things we're into at instagram.com/lastlineofdefense (if I should remove this link or whatever, let me know)

It's a custom 8' long desk that I just kind of thought up in my head and built one evening.

I wanted to build a giant desk that would fit two 35" ultrawides, desktop, peripherals, etc - but one that didn't have to have a bunch of legs and things on the floor. We have a few dogs that are always running around, and they like to hangout with us, so this gives them a nice open spot to lay down by our feet if they want. This desk obviously can't be moved, but it works great for what we needed it for.

This is my side.

I didn't like mouse/keyboard cables running all the way to the back, so I drilled some holes and put some 1" grommets on my and her side to run them.

The rig.

do people care about other stuff? Idk, I'm new to posting PC stuff...

I'm into guns and things, so I wrapped the front of the (Phanteks Enthoo Evolv Tempered Glass Edition) case with Multicam Black

Dude hangs out on the dot.

Her side.

This case makes you have to sorta have good cable management on both sides... which is new to me.

The Razer Blade Stealth and Core Dock with GTX 1060 handles most games she likes to play.

We usually use headsets and store them over on the side under the desk out of the way.

Her little companion.

Front

Front is pretty clean - from standing (or even sitting) height you can't see the brackets or anything, but if you crouch down you can see the rear brackets.

Messy cable management.

I didn't spend too much time getting cable management beautiful from underneath, but from the front it's invisible - so that's all I really care about. Bungees and stuff hold all the power bricks up off the floor, and we can get them out easily if we ever need to move anything around.

The 'before' setup just felt a little too cramped, even though this is basically the widest desk anyone sells.

The frame.

Most of it is just 4x4 lumber, because I wanted it to be stout enough to handle the 8' span without any droop, especially with my big heavy PC on top (it handles it perfectly.) I ran the edges on the table saw to bevel them to 45 degrees and then smoothed them out nice - this makes it super comfortable for your forearms/wrists. Then I did some stain on them to make them somewhat match the laminate flooring top that we picked out - followed by a few coats of poly. The back brackets were some IKEA brackets that were big enough to let the top sit out from the wall 3" - for the lights to glow back there and enough room to put in arms if we decide to go that route.

The 'inset'

The 'top' (OSB sheet + laminate flooring) sits down in this channel so that it is flush with the 4x4 front edge. I didn't want the desk any thicker than it needed to be, so the 'top' actually sits down in the 4x4 so that it is flush.

The top.

I was thinking about doing it with some kind of solid wood, but they make some cool flooring options, and flooring is really durable. Also, it makes everything pretty easy - and hey if we ever get bored of this 'pattern' we can simply swap the flooring, haha.

I spend most of my time here at my standing desk, where I work.

I see people post this 'dog tax' thing - so here is one of our dogs and the beautiful wife.

Mike and Atreyu

Here is the other dog, who doesn't like being a 'lap dog' haha.

Let me know if you have any questions! This is my first post on here, so I don't really know how it works. I historically just browsed other people's cool setups, and figured it was time to add my own.

Holy moley you went with the 34 inch curved acer predator ultra wide 3440x1440 G sync. You lucky bastard

I love RAT mice, the fit my hand the best.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's the best mouse I've found to be comfortable for me to use, with nerve pain in my hand, this mouse truly helps.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Anyway, also, I love your setup!

And I thought my $850 PC with a 24inch monitor and DBpower mechanical keyboard with Logitech G300S mouse was fancy...

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Damn, this is probably the greatest setup I've ever seen. Also great job on that desk @OP, really cough my eye.

How does that chair hold up to long gaming sessions? What kind is it? My chair sucks I need a new one.

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

The red one is some random one on Amazon - 'Homall Ergonomic Racing Chair' (I can't put a link I guess) and it's pretty comfy.

Is the other one a real Eames?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No, I *think it's Scandinavian Design, but I'm not sure. I've had a few knockoffs of that style over the years.

This sort of gaming setup makes me sad. Not only an awesome setup, PLUS a wife, PLUS she games? I'm gonna die poor and alone, like my dad.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Multicam black? Heres an upvote for like the only MB computer ever.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It really makes the whole setup, for me.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's a nice standing setup too, what do you do??

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You spent a fuck ton of money for just the "ocassional gaming" session

The Division! 1.4 brought so many people back including myself. Its good to see :)

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Since this is a great setup and I can't afford anything of that, could you at least send me a link to the wallpaper of your wife?

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I thought you meant a wallpaper of a photo of his wife, so you could have it on your screen and sit next to it as though she were there.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I want one but...

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Haha, you can have all of those things with pretty much any job!

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 10

Can attest to this. Even while making less than 1k USD/month I'm able to save up, while my sister makes 5x+ and doesnt budget well enough.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

No you can't. That's around $7000 worth of merchandise on display at minimum. No one with "any job" has that kind of disposable income.

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Well you could have a beautiful wife, dogs and PCs, monitors - just gotta save for the hardware. :)

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Especially consider they game 'occasionally'. Some people have no idea how lucky they are, & how shit others' lives are compared to his.
