This all started with a comment shortly after I received this desk, which was better than my last one, that I needed a new desk. I thought I was doing well with this one..... but the all mighty internet disagreed.

Edit: Here is the link to my original build https://pcpartpicker.com/b/GN7hP6

Sooooo I started searching for the ultimate "me" desk. After long last I had found it, the vikter gaming desk. Now where to purchase one. Hmmmmm well I guess I can't, this desk was part of a kickstarter program that failed. So on with looking for another one... nope still can't find one I like and that is in my price range.(side note- I am very tight with money, that's the only way to make it now a days.)

So after spending months in search for the holy grail of desks I decided that, you know what I'm a manly man so I can just build one better for cheaper. So I found a neat website that allows me to cad for free. So I used design cues from the desk I loved and created this 3D drawing.

Now on to the optimization of wood. Now with the exact dimensions of the vikter desk I couldn't get all the cuts I needed with one 4x8 sheet of wood. Now this doesn't work for me being cheap and all. So with a few modifications I was very successful. With this I was able to make key adjustments to the length of the desk and to the height of the tower shelf.

Now for the fun part in practice but dull part to write about. Here is the wood cut.

Sanding with 120 then 220.

Ok here is something that I learned along the way. Birch is a birch to stain.(see what I did there) so after some practice I settled on one coat of mineral spirits followed by three coats of stain. Here are the shelves in a red mahogany.

Desk top in ebony

Verticals in ebony.

Contrast of colors

Test fitting.

Now this held together by glue with finishing nails as the clamp. Not pictured is me staining trim to cover the plywood layers on the front face, which I also used the mahogany stain on. Also I used a piece of Lauan for the back panel stained in mahogany.

Now here is the finished product which I absolutely love. I do apologize for the crappy lighting, in the process of designing and build the desk I moved and this house doesn't have good lighting in the living room. (Next project)

This is me trying to get better lighting with a large 50w rgb led flood.

Dude. Nothin is better than a desk built for the space. That looks fantastic!

+2 Desk, -1 Curtains. Still nets you +1 (those curtains though. Seriously. Bruh.)

ill buy one

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Should have used... AutoDesk.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

did you add any wood to the back or is it open through and through?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I add a 1/4" piece of lauan which is basically thin plywood and stained it in the red mahogany.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Awesome! But construct-ive criticism, add a cable run through to make cables invisible. Aside from that its great!

9 years ago | Likes 46 Dislikes 0

Yeah I still need to add cable management.

Nice desk though :D

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Dude its like everyone is fixated at the boob and you are focused on a weirdly place mole, at the right shoulder.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

What can I say, I notice stuff. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

what do you think about led's under the desktop?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I think it would be great and I'm planning on doing that

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I wish I can build but I can't

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

you need more blue tape on the edges.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

G13! love it. great job, like the stand the pc sits on, rather than on the floor or hidden.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Im sorry but if you're tight with money, a desk is the least of your worries. If anything, a sand and a new coat would do wonders.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well tight with money as in I don't like to spend above and beyond what is necessary. I have a decent job and I do work on the side.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I've been searching for a new desk for the past weeks and everything is either absurdly expensive or completely shit. Build me one OP!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I believe in you, you can do it.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Can you give me the exact measurements from your thinkercad project please? I want to try it my self.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Sorry it took so long to get back, do you want the exact measurement of each piece or the whole desk?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Oh yes please XD

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Haunter hau!!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

@op I have that same Haunter wallpaper

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah it's one of my favorites

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

@tammyfarts you wanted a new desk?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

As a pc person im going to build my own pc and build my own desk! There is more sense of pride knowing you made that setup come true

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This is amazing, love the setup

TIME TRAVEL ALERT: The top photo is clearly dated 2004, but the xbox 360 controller wouldnt debut until late 2005. Time travel is no joke!

9 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 1

They also have windows 10.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah back when I took the photo all I had was an iPhone 4s which took potato pictures so I pulled out my digital camera.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

But. You had windows 10. And an Xbox controller. Wat.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I think he means he doesn't usually use his digital camera, so the time tag is off

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The camera hadn't been on in a while and the date hadn't been set.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh im retarded. I'm sorry. I just woke up

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

What are those headphones?

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It's a hyperx cloud 2

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

That's correct

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

how does everyone have their own woodworking shop?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Low on money, has tons of Dewalt tools.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Now put RGB LED strips under the desk.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They are in the amazon cart waiting for funds. : )

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

how much are they?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

16ft for $22

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Um that would be perfect for me too, I'm less crafty help a guy out? Do you have blueprints still?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And as far as starting and measurements?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Do the tutorial and learn how to use the program. And as far as the measurement everything is in a 1/8" scale to multiply the numbers by 8.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

By Jove let the chaos begin...

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You use the word "now" too much.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Now I have no idea what you are talking about. Thank you for pointing that out. I will work on being more articulate.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Hey, I don't know if you play overwatch or not, but you will love the character "Reaper"

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

now you need another monitor

9 years ago | Likes 241 Dislikes 1

Now you can hear yourself breathing

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Will be interesting to see him build that

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

i mean yea this is true, but this is the top comment?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I heard those are a real birch to build.

9 years ago | Likes 55 Dislikes 0

Where there's a willow there's a way

9 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

I had a dual 1080p setup for years. Never really used the second one. Recently changed it up with a single 1440p. Absolutely love it.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'd say: 2 monitors if used for work/hobby, 1 big nice monitor if used for gaming

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If you have work to do, especially programming, dual monitor is almost must have.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I'm saving for this one for the Acer Predator 34-inch Curved UltraWide QHD (3440 x 1440) NVIDIA G-Sync Widescreen

9 years ago | Likes 52 Dislikes 1

Go for it! It's really nice, especially with the Gsync. If you have an Nvidia card :-)

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Do it. It is an excellent monitor.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Go for it! It's really nice, especially with the Gsync. If you have an Nvidia card :-)

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Also iirc my friend told me gsync can be bad for gaming. Not 100% sure on that though

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 4

Gsync is meant for gaming...if you have an Nvidia card. So not sure what that comment is based upon.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Maybe it was vertical sync or something or other? I can't remember

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

fyi if you're trying to satisfy the internet, it cannot be done. Sweet desk tho!!!!!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Just ordered a QNIX 1440p 27 inch monitor. Best budget display. You basically get a $600+ Samsung for $200.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If all you care about is size, sure. But it isn't IPS and is only 60hz.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It is a version of IPS that samsung created, and it overclocks reallllly well. Most people can get 100hz, some more.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

When you get it let me know how it compares to a true IPS panel, and how much you can overclock it to.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Nonononono don't get curved monitors terrible for gaming honestly half the games you try to play make it look just stupid

9 years ago | Likes 34 Dislikes 7

This isn't true at all lol.. have 2 Samsungs and everything looks fantastic on them.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I've had that exact monitor for over a year now and I have honestly never experienced any game looking "stupid" because of the curve.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

What the fuck? Ultrawide = larger fov = more immersion. Curved = better viewing angles = better experience. It's only bad if you need super-

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

straight lines. aka if you're doing professional art or modelling. For gaming the x34 is amazing.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Hmmm ok well on to my next favorite thing to do... RESEARCH!!

9 years ago | Likes 39 Dislikes 0

i rock 3 LG 27MP65HQs, those are no longer availible but they are super sweet... Not high refresh but amazing for color work and cheap

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As an avid gamer with the predator monitor, it is AMAZING and looks gorgeous with every game I play.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

O've got 3 32" curved samsung monitors for both gaming and CAD and i love them, much better than flat screens

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I've already done my research and came to the conclusion that the best monitor one can buy right now is Acer Predator XB271HU. Trust me.

9 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

and that's why i'll never be a "gamer" holy $$ batman! i am waaay to cheap to consider that a "good buy" but you do you. go get em tiger.
