Missionary Logic

Don't knock the single city strategy, I've had it work really well. Even if I decide to go big I keep it under 3 or 4 cities

I have no idea how to play Civ and I still play it. I just click buttons and try to take over the map. Holla

10 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

That was my first attempt at Civ, too. I remember having no idea how to play the Norse myth version.

Fucken Shaka. Every time, well gonna have to wipe out the Zulu.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That last image is Bismark's wet dream. (Defeat barbarian units, gets a chance to convert the unit to your civ)

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I had a friend who literally always played Bismarck, for some reason the barbarians had navies before either of us, he just stole their navy

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Civ VI has been announced? Thanks @OP - I'm stoked! The even-numbered Civ games have always been the best. Can't wait.

"Our words are backed...WITH NUCLEAR WEAPONS!"-Ghandi

10 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

"Dammit, Ghandi" - every Civ player at some point.

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I actually love that they intentionally kept the bug in 5. It was a nice easteregg.

#1 is great, especially when *they* are the one to propose the deal.

"hey accept my embassy for your embassy." ok. "how dare you insult me" wtf

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Oh, God damn... CivNet... so much nostalgia. Thing had a fucking BOOK along with it. Played it soooo much with my relatives back in the day

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

fully expecting gandhi to nuke my ass 2 days into play because I won't trade him iron for wood.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Iron from Ice?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's more dangerous to be friendly to ghandi than it is to be enemies, because his aggression goes down when friends and it'll roll over

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Last screen calls for multiple nuclear missiles use. That would be kind of... epic :)

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I need to bust out my copy of Civ2, but I don't have a couple weeks to lose.

10 years ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 0

Found an Android port called FreeCiv. It's pretty beta, and you have to remember what the techs do, but it's fun.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

FreeCiv has been on desktop Linux for as long as I can remember, never got into it. Android Civ... probably can't be worse than PS1 Civ2.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I hope the AI and all the other bugs get fixed. All my automated workers would lock up and sit in cities in Civ 5, and my farms disappeared.

10 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 0

according to IGN article. AI is a big focus

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Have you heard about the Community Patch? It fixes a lot of the known bugs.

10 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

My buddies were on team, one of their auto-workers quit working on his stuff and went and helped the teammate instead by just sitting there.

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Mine did that too except it he tried to build a transcontinental road through enemy territory

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

The fall from heaven 2 mod for Civ4 was free, and more entertaining than any paid expansion that civ ever released

10 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 1

FFH2 is the best Civ game and the best mod. Makes civs actually different (elves build on forest, dwarves happy with gold, etc), mages, etc.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Does anyone recall what the Game of Thrones mod was called and which version of Civ it was created for? It was before the hbo series.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Found one for Civ V, not sure if that's the one you were thinking of: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=128722076

Oh hey, I see four forest fires to the north, now I think I know where Acheron the Red is.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I've just got into Europa Universalis IV. Compared to Civ it's like a blind man putting on glasses for the first time. So much rich detail!

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

So few explanations about the mechanics in EU4 though. It's something Civ5 did pretty well.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

oh my word yes, it's a steep learning curve. The Castille tutorial works quite well, but with all the DLC it's a deep dark pit of menus

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

500+ hours in, still not totally sure how this shit works.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Haile Selassie wasn't merely king of Ethiopia, he was EMPEROR of Ethiopia. He is also regarded as the 2nd coming of Christ by Rastas.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

So guys Civilization VI am I right?

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Love Civ 5...but Civ 6 looks like shit.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

yeah not a fan of the cartoon look, i got used to the more realistic looking 5

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

good game changes though

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

You have no idea how dangerous they are, those fuckers can BUILD ROADS... as a military unit. *mindblown*

10 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 0

The reality was pretty flippin badass too. The army engineering projects performed under Caesar were staggering.

They were basically little Rome saplings that could plant themselves wherever they wanted.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

i JUST bought civ 5

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I doubt you'll regret it. I'm still rocking it on the daily.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah bought it like a month ago. problem is, when i play a game alot i will lose interest quickly. Which means i usually end up playing (1/2

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

like 200 rounds and then stop till next week (2/2)

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm reinvigorated every time I see something about a historical figure. For instance, my wife started watching Vickings, cue up Harald

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Oh shit Civ 6? I'm excited!

10 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

some good changes too imho.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I haven't seen the release yet, I'm curious. Onto the interwebs!

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

IGN has an article. URL too long to post here

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

this might help. https://www.facebook.com/civ/?fref=nf it's down a few posts

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Oh man, this looks interesting. I think this could be really good, espesh the whole spreading out the cities thing! Thanks for the link!

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I have gotten every victory except for military. I've always found it the hardest but all my friends disagree

10 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Focus economy and technology, get allies, annex the weak.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Play Huns starting from ancient era and if you get a battering ram from a ruin you can take 3-4 cities before classical era.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I absolutely agree, even if I've gotten it several times... because I played a Science games and had GDR and XCOMs. Against pikemen.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Depends on player style. Military victory can be achieved earlier in history so it often is easier, in late game I find others easier.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

It's also very dependent on the difficulty level.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That too, difficulty level (and number of players vs number of AI) makes a huge difference.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I always wait until I have aircraft carriers and bombers. Since most capitals are located near water, I can attack with battle ship 1/

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

volleys, and bomber strikes. Eventually bomber gets repair every turn, and double attacks. You can capture cities with destroyers, and 2/

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

you can garrison a battleship there to help fend off counter attacks. Eventually I sweep through the rest of the capitals with my navy. 3/3

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

About air repair, get the Brandenburg Gate ASAP. Make all the other XP buildings and you can make aircraft with repair straight away there!

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It is so awesome to roll out auto-repairing aircraft and bomb someone into submission with them, battleships and MLRS.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Just got my first domination victory this week. If you wait too long you find yourself racing against civs going for science victory.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

play Bismarck and put on raging barbarians, get loads of land units early, and then get to dynamite/artillery as fast as you can.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I had to bomb the ship out of Babylon in an effort to kill their production and gold. Barely won.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Bomb the shit * funding autocorrect

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Omfg

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Its worth noting that bombing all the external trade from ports is a great way to watch an opposing country fall to debt

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Will it just be a new coat of paint? Or is it finally going to make civs act like countries instead of a collection of city states? 1/

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Eg. at some point in the tech tree food and production should be pooled. 2/2

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The cities stuff sounds a lot like Endless Legend.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Not really a bad thing tbh. Endless Legend expanded the genre in meaningful ways and Civ 6 is learning from it.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I still play Civ2.

10 years ago | Likes 89 Dislikes 0

Civ 2 was an amazing game. Sadly, the AI is a little too bipolar. It annoys me.

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

The AI is unarguably terrible. Just.... terrible. My only complaint about the game.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I still play Civ I, because I'm too lazy to learn how to play the new ones. But from this they seem pretty much the same.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Civ2 was a nice improvement. Beyond that... its a different game.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Good to know, I'll give it a try when I finish my latest game.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's the last one made by Microprose, right?

10 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

Yarp.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Civ2 remains my jam. I also liked that Civ2 would run any audio CD you had in your drive at the time as the game music.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Link if anyone wants to play the original: http://www.freegameempire.com/games/Civilization#sthash.LUxNgr3D.dpbs

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Amazing!

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I really wish they would add the civ2 dinosaur campaign to the new civs.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Do they still have the game editor?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I have no idea. I haven't touched civ since 5 was released.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I also enjoy playing old antequated games with obtuse design features. (not joking, I do this)

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

I like it too. It makes you use more of your imagination

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It was a great game, doesn't crash to desktop or take up all your computer's resources. Ever play Master of Orion 2?

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yep. Great game. Showing its age though, and the endgame bit was always tedious. Still fun.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Master of Magic?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Same. Love it, amazing game. Nobody has yet recaptured the spirit or feel of the game. Interface drives me nuts, game is amazing

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

alpha centauri all the way

10 years ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 0

This guy. He just GETS IT

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Damn rights.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yeeeeeesh

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I own alpha centauri but I haven't a clue how to play it

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It came with a book. It took a week to read, but totally worth it

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Trial and error is also a good way to learn :)!

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Actually still prefer civ 3, not sure what they mean by awful interface. Only issue with civ 3 was tech speed was way too fast till file mod

10 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 2

Did you ever play Civ2? The UI was great. Compared to Civ2, the Civ 3 interface is kinda blah.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I think i did play civ 2 a few times, but not enough to get a hang of the game. 3 and alpha centauri were the 2 i played heavily

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I find Civ3 has a lot more micromanagement than Civ5, and rewards many-city civs to the point of neccessity (but I still prefer Civ3, too).

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

City count is why I prefer 2 and 3. I hate the new focus on fewer, bigger cities. I like a sprawling empire, dozens ofs cities.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah, that's why I prefer it too, mostly. Civ5 is a nice souffle of strategy, but Civ3 is a full-blown medieval hog-roast

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Very true, but the corruption was annoying and made colonial empires difficult. But civ 3 is still my personal favorite.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No Civ 4 love? I still play it (Beyond the Sword or Rise of Mankind).

10 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Civ 4 is okay; I've got it and I've played it, but it didn't really hold me.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My favourite game of all time. Civ 5 just didn't quite do it for me.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Imo i liked civ 4 more over 5. So much more depth. Plus that intro music is so cool

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

...that last image.

10 years ago | Likes 165 Dislikes 0

Barbarian hordes at the edges of Equestria? Must be changelings. Then again, frozen northern wastes, maybe it's Sombra's fault.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The wall from Game of Thrones?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Is that map titled Equestria V2?

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It is, but we're going to need someone willing to research that. Because... I'm not seeing the connection between ponies and CivV barbarians

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Well, there were at least a couple pony civ mods

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

HONOR TREE ALL THE WAY, CMERE WALKING CULTURE, GOLD AND XP!

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

All I see is an EXP farm for my airforce and artillery.

10 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 0

Units only receive XP from their first few barbarian kills.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

not with a certain mod :P

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Am I the only one who thought it was a GoT reference to the wildlings marching south of the wall?

10 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

honestly assumed that's what it was immediately

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I don't get it.

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

TL;DR neutral enemies that have successfully created a fucking army, instead of the small clans you fight every now and then.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I think those are all barbarians.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

As someone who has never played, could you explain it for me? All I see are a bunch of red icons and cow heads. :C

10 years ago | Likes 64 Dislikes 2

Barbarians are AI-controlled foes who don't form cities and instead just attack from settlements. They're frustrating, because they can >

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

quickly produce more barbarians, and any unit can create a new settlement. If you don't keep them under control they'll end up claiming >

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

an area and becoming more dangerous than any real empire, especially since they automatically follow others' scientific progress.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

They are barbarians. Not a major leader or a city state unit, just random evil dudes.

10 years ago | Likes 44 Dislikes 0

Each one of those is a unit to be used in war against other civilizations. It's scary because you normally see 10 at the very fucking most.

10 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 2

Their like insects, people have a tendancy to see one and ignore it, then oh boy give it time they will multiply.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Best part is finding a barbarian tank, or similar.

10 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Those are barbarians. They're enemies to all and, left unchecked (like that), they can be very dangerous.

10 years ago | Likes 90 Dislikes 0

The cows or the shirtless men?

10 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

Yes

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Black/red icons are barbarians of different classes (archers, etc) the other icons refer to the resources on the specific tile.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Hopefully we'll get more techs, and an actually useful diplomacy game.

10 years ago | Likes 392 Dislikes 1

I read an article the other day, and it looks like they've worked on fixing a lot of that. Link. It should show up on Google, by PC Gamer.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Oh yes [leader], we shall attack our mutual enemy; we christen our alliance in blood! [5 turns later]. DENOUNCEMENT for conquering cities!

10 years ago | Likes 49 Dislikes 0

I thought it was conquering capitals that caused the real problems, more than cities. But still a dumb rule. 'Warmongering' should be(1)

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

starting wars as the aggressor, particularly if you do it often, as opposed to just being successful at it.(2)

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Oh, if I attack someone who's being a dick, I'm a warmogerer. But by all means, make friends with the guy who fucking backstabbed two others

10 years ago | Likes 75 Dislikes 0

You conquered a civ? You are an evil warmongerer and need to die. I'll go team up with the 2 others who wiped their continents now.

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

I'm reading through the description and I have to admit I'm worried. I played Masters of Orion 1 and 2 and tried to play 3. The "upgrades" 1

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Made it so complex that if I did anything other than what the AI recommended I hurt my empire. It was like being played by the game vs. 2

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Other way around. I see some potential in the new game, and, I'm still worried in how that potential will play out. link to article

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

i was looking at master of orion does it actually play that poorly?

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Lest we speak of the awful favor system in beyond earth

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

The system which doesn't work at all you mean? Negotiations in that game are pretty much pointless. I still love it though.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Fun techs and world but no point in politics. I rarely deal with the ai because theyre so unsocialable and never approach me

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

And Ai's that aren't retarded. The "Warmongering" stuff was bullshit. Trying to trade was bullshit. Lots of bullshit.

10 years ago | Likes 192 Dislikes 1

As long as nuclear ghandi is in there...

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The AI treated you like an enemy 100% of the time regardless of relationship. The game needed an allegiance system.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah, that was really frustrating. I liked how in Galatic Civ 3 it was more useful...but maybe TOO much in the player's favor.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

And of course 100 turn promises about not attacking for having units guarding YOUR borders. Ignore it cuz you got XCOMs 70 turns later?

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Warmongering and penalty from promise makes EVERYONE hate you. Luckily, I have XCOMs at that point so...

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Making the game "harder" in Civ 5 is just giving the stupid AI more and more unfair advantages.

10 years ago | Likes 77 Dislikes 0

Deity was basically like a 100 meter dash, and all the AI start 25M ahead.

10 years ago | Likes 41 Dislikes 0

And the starter pistol is loaded and aimed at your knee caps

10 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 0
