The "I don't know what it is" to "It is something that reaffirms my cosmological beliefs" pipeline is about an inch long.

M-O-O-N, that spells moon! Laws, yes.

I thought m-o-o-n spelled Nebraska?

I already called my buds in Salem and told them to go into lockdown mode. The pitchforks and torches are coming out soon.

Americans always were. You just didn't have the internet to see how many. If you think evolution and dinosaurs are real, that already makes you smarter than over half the population.

Had an ex who went down a similar rabbit hole and was showing me a shit quality youtube video with "two suns in the sky." Reader, it wasn't two suns. It was The Sun and its reflection in an open window at an angle.

lens flare right?

1 year ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Not even that, as by posters above, it is just a zoomed in out-of-focus star/planet.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I saw a moon-sized orb hovering in the sky over my house last night. It moved slowly through the sky, and it was gone in the morning. Aliens? Angels? Russian spy drones? I guess we'll never know.

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Whoah, a low-res image of the moon... scary.

1 year ago | Likes 129 Dislikes 4

unfocused star. 50% chance it was taken with a Panasonic FZ-500, bridge camera with insane zoom and shitty autofocus that can't focus on stars and beloved by flat earthers.

That's no Moon!

1 year ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Moon? I would have guessed it was the morning star,. especially considering: https://earthsky.org/astronomy-essentials/venus-after-sunset-greatest-elongation/

Oh great, so now Lucifer is involved?

1 year ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

1 year ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yep, this is what happens when you zoom in with a low quality camera on a star. They get heavily defracted by the atmosphere, and end up looking like this.

1 year ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 0

Morningstar?

1 year ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I had no idea there were that many uses for the term “morning star”. I’m entertained by the fact that both Jesus and Lucifer are on the list! 😂

No ANUS you rectum, Venus

How does the saying go? For all our advancement, we're still just 1 unanswered question from peasants afraid we've angered the stars?

Hey, in any other reality, I would have been perfectly happy to talk about how Eevee is the cutest pokemon, but this is the world we live in.

I'm not kink shaming, just wasn't ready for that lol

And I never really got into Pokemon. I know I'm a weirdo, but I missed the bus on that one. What can you do

This post of his is just a desperate "don't forget about me"

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm sick of his slick schtick of trying to come off like a smart & witty hipster, when all he knows is how to play with tropes & buzzwords. People should know his game by now. He's just a long haired & better presented version of Andy Dick.

1 year ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

He's the worst thing to drug addicts since drugs.

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Amazing how quickly he unravelled and lost all sense of that witty repertoire after those sex abuse allegations were dug up.

It's a star. It's what stars (or any point sources) look like when they're distorted by the atmosphere and out of focus.

I've combined two videos from this person's youtube to illustrate. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EYdvjNoJXCg

It's a star. It's what they've always looked like. You don't need to know that, most people don't, it's cool that you didn't. But "unexplainable plasma UFO" and "angel" cannot be our go-to guesses. Please, humanity.

1 year ago | Likes 129 Dislikes 1

No, haven't you heard the guy? It's an angel /jk

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So cool! ... That's why we have "adaptive optics" in terrestrial telescopes now. It's a mechanism that subtly deforms the mirror in such a way that it compensates for the atmospherical distortion.

I love how Sirius goes through all the colours of the rainbow. It's because he is a very large, hot star with a spectrum that peaks so far towards the blue that it looks white to us (and contains all the colours in big enough magnitudes).

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Maybe my phone is dirty, but I can't read the second name in the image there. Can someone type it out for me?

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

When I look through my eyes and then my 50x monocular, Solar system planets get bigger, but I haven't seen any star get bigger beyond infinitesimal dot. I thought the stars are so far away they're just dots, even to Hubble. Wow

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Oh, shit, I missed the over-focus part. So the stars do be very far.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The fools shrodingers cognitive reasoning: It could be either a miraculous religious thing or it could be a miraculous technological thing but never the simplest realistic scientific/tech thing.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

UFO is fine, but UAP is the preferred term now because UFO makes the assumptions that what you’re seeing is a) flying and b) an object. So Unidentified Arial Phenomenon really just means that it’s in the sky and you don’t know what it is, which fits perfectly for a star that you don’t know is a star.

1 year ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

That makes a tremendous amount of sense. Thank you. I wasn't clear on the distinction.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

An 'Unidentified Arial Phenomonon' would be Microsoft Word screwing up a document. You're after 'aerial' :)

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

thank you, i would have said their lens was just dirty

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

"Plasma flying object" is quite accurate though. But it's neither "unexplainable" nor "unidentified".

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ok, but Sirius need to calm the fuck down.

(but yeah, this looks like caustics, except with a colorful star behind)

Sirius is having an EDM party.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's not an accident. There are many people out there who salivate at the opportunity to meddle with events, particularly those ripe for conspiracies. There are so many falsified videos out there, with their submitters "innocently" asking "WTH is this thing I recorded?".

Then sensationalism addicted lunatics like Russell Brand get in on it. He is a Loki. He lives for crap like this in almost any genre you can imagine.

> The amount of energy needed to refute bullshit is an order of magnitude bigger than that needed to produce it.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brandolini%27s_law

1 year ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 0

"Firehose of lies" technique.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's ridiculous. An order of magnitude means around 10 times more. Bullshit is incredibly easy to produce, and refuting things for stubborn people is almost impossible.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This isn't satire? Nobody could be this dumb. Please tell me, it's satire!

I think they are trying to be funny and missed the audience by a mile and have now to play the tune the dumb ones play.
