Used to live by a gas station that would stock the cherry nos energy drinks in bulk, when I moved, they stopped stocking them and I can’t find them anywhere now lol.
I’ve never had this kind of impact on society or economic. Wait maybe scotch at the bar but I’m pretty sure I’m the only one who drinks from that bottle and I’ve been watching it slowly empty for the last two years
I buy a carton of chocolate milk about every two weeks. It only lasts a few days, but I don't want to overdo something that is meant as a treat. Or I'm too lazy to go to the supermarket more often.
My local curry place called deeply concerned a week after I moved to another city. When I told them I was okay, I was subsequently heavily shamed for not telling them and for making the cook worry. We still chat whenever I'm in town.
My great grandmother ordered SO much stuff from QVC and other home shopping places that UPS in her area actually rerouted themselves around her orders.
I wish my local library were this forthcoming. When I was a kid, it had a subscription to a computer magazine aimed at professionals. I was reading it religiously. They ended the subscription one day. When I asked them why, they told me that I was the only one in town reading it. The spot on the shelf was taken by yet another fashion magazine, which made up half of the magazines they were offering. It was dismal. I had to take the bus to the next town and get my reading from the library there.
What kind of shit library was this? Every librarian I've ever known would battle a Balrog to keep a single kid reading whatever the hell they liked reading, even if it meant paying for it out of fine cash or their own pocket.
The librarians there just weren't that great. Remember the time when Sony put malicious rootkits on their music CDs? I found out thanks to this magazine, told the staff of the library (they had several of these CDs), carefully explained what was happening - and they did nothing, kept these CDs around for many more years. They just didn't care at all. They did however prevent me from checking out books that were 12+ according to their own age rating scheme when I was 11.5 years old.
They did not. This was a smaller library that belonged to a larger one next town, so I took the bus there to get the things the small library didn't have. Across both libraries, I was the person checking out the most media a few years in a row.
I had a local bar I ordered delivery from through a third party service that always put too much peppercorn for my taste (like it was another side). So I had a special request to go easy on 'em, and then started thanking them on subsequent orders. They'd send messages of thanks and hoping I was well on the styrofoam containers. I kinda hate that Covid put them out of business, it was good food and good people. Never once set foot in there for a drink though.
Well it's better than what mine used to be, which was particular alcohols from (3) different local liquor stores! (can't go to the same one twice in a day, that's how you KNOW you're a drunk!
Friday used to be burrito night. It got to the point that by the time we got to the front of the line, our order was bagged and waiting for us. (Didn't hurt that I tipped like $10 on $50 takeaway.) Sadly, when my wife and daughter were diagnosed with celiac, we had to stop going. But they still know us when the boys and I sneak over for our fix of lengua.
At my home town Japanese restaurant I was known and friendly with the entire staff, from owners to waiters. I moved out of state just before Covid and, while thankfully they stayed open, by the time I revisited I only knew owners and some chefs. Got a chuckle when I walked in and the sushi chef smiled and loudly greeted me while the wait staff were sitting there like, “Who the fuck is this guy”.
I say it's nice. We have a hibachi place we know as "Two soups" because the owner once saw us and was excited, pointed and said "two soups" because we always got that instead of our salads.
As someone with a Chinese boyfriend for the last four years - it is a bit sad that you only ever order the same thing. You do you, of course, but these circumstances opened up a whole new list of options beyond stir fried rice with veggies and a protein of choice to me.
Dive into Dim Sum, wide range of stuff tapas style. Also many (non-fried) noodle dishes. - My perception is a bit scewed because he is from Malaysia, so many influences from their, too.
Its actually kind of nice. It should make you feel welcome. There was a place I used to buy Monster Energy drinks at that knew all my favorite flavors. When Mad Dog and Baller's Blend got discontinued they bought as many as they could to keep them stocked well beyond that point because they were my favorite flavors. Communities doing nice things for each other is the way things were supposed to be.
Dude gave you tried the orange creamsicle? That shit is the bomb ! Also I totally agree. I'm fortunate to live in a part of Manhattan that is still a neighborhood.
Wouldnt surprise me, working fast food or food service in general you start to really learn your regulars. One of the old folks died, about a quarter of the store went to the funeral. One of my old regulars ended up in a nursing home, couple of old coworkers still go up and see him wvery once in a while
When I was single used to order a pizza every Friday night. For like 3 years straight. Then I got a girlfriend and Friday became date night and they legit called on me to make sure I was OK.
No no no, there is something to that I also recall that story. Dude ordered a pizza literally every Tuesday at 6 pm for like 10-12 years and then he didn’t call and the manager called 911. Those details may not be super accurate but the general story is legit as far as I know.
11 days he hadn’t ordered and was having a stroke when they arrived? Woah, I hope it was a fall first then a recent stroke. Otherwise… damn. I had a client (didn’t perform any heroics myself) that had fallen and was on her floor for 3 days before anyone checked on her. That must be terrifying.
My store had a similar thing. Lady ordered every day from us, she had 3 go to orders, finally we didn’t hear from her for a week so we sent a driver to go past her house and the last order was still by her door, turns out she had died.
Gosh, that guy survived 11 days lying on the floor? I'm having real. serious trouble to believe that story. Food aside: What did he drink? If he managed to get something drinkable, why couldn't he call for help using his phone? I'm sorry. That story can't be true, not like that.
OK, right, not full 11 days. So how many? They noticed after the 2nd expected order didn't come and send someone over after the 3rd order didn't come. That might be 8 or 9 days. Let's say 7 days. Lying on the floor. Again, what did he drink and how did he get it while being unable to call for help?
