The Kupyansk operation was largely conceived, planned, and continues to be executed by one of Ukraine’s most talented officers — the commander of the Joint Forces grouping, the legendary Major General Mykhailo Drapatyi. He has been conducting this operation without additional reserves, relying solely on existing forces and assets against Russian troops that significantly outnumber Ukrainian forces in almost every component on the ground.

Drapatyi was urgently redeployed to Kharkiv Oblast in May 2024 to halt a Russian breakthrough from the Vovchansk direction, a task he successfully accomplished. He also commanded the liberation of Kherson Oblast in 2022. Notably, he once chose to resign following a tragic training-ground incident, taking personal responsibility for the failure of his subordinates to carry out his orders.

Drapatyi became a legend of his time following the iconic 2014 footage, when pro-Russian separatists established control over Mariupol and blocked the advance of Ukrainian forces. During that episode, two BMP-2 infantry fighting vehicles from a Ukrainian unit broke through the artificial obstacles — the commander of the lead vehicle was Mykhailo Drapatyi himself.

In June 2014, Drapatyi also successfully led an operation to extract and save two Ukrainian groups that had been taken captive near Luhansk.

Legend.

Fuck Putin.

Take note. This man will be legendary in historical texts

Kudos to his bravery, and to the Ukrainian army in general for having held the line for this long. However, on average, with time, given such an imbalance of forces, Ukraine will lose. Moreover, we see in the 2014 footage, how hostile the common public in these places is to the Ukrainian armed forces. We should reflect on why that is. Ukraine was neutral and peaceful until 2012. Is alignment with a bloc worth so much blood?

Trump's America is the cancer.

Putin's Russia is the lump of polonium that's causing it.

That's a prepared jump, though. Doing it in completely unplanned conditions is a completely different matter.

I sure as shit wouldn't be standing in the road in front of a multi ton tank coming at me.

Ah yes, ramming speed

3 months ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

A speed I'm impressed it could reach given its ancient Soviet engine.

The same engine powering modern Russian tanks is the same design as the one that powered the T-34.

It's really fascinating to notice that Ukrainian leadership has been largely exemplary, with poorly-performing officers getting reassigned or dismissed, while by contrast Russian leadership is largely defined by loyalty to Putin, and instead of being dismissed for incompetence they slaughter their own men to keep them in line.

3 months ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 1

To be honest, the average Russian officer's time in combat is significantly shorter than that of his Ukrainian counterpart's....

3 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

In Russian leadership, they keep the best yes-men and the best at cover their asses, not by competence in leadership. In Soviet times the military had influence, but Putin's security service has its boot on top of the military now.
They'll always be the last to know the bad news, know accurate counts of manpower/equipment/casualties. Good luck making any plans in those circumstances.

3 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Yup. The rise of Syrskyi is a great example of this.

3 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I mean, while the Russian (and post-WWII Soviet) military has always shown itself to be largely incompetent, this is something that happens with most dictatorships. Most authoritarians want loyalty while Ukraine is a democracy fighting for its survival, those are circumstances which tend to weed out incompetent leadership. Russia has nothing at stake while Ukraine has everything to lose.

Of coarse not. His actions made him great.

Speaking from experience, war brings out 2 things in people. It brings out the best and the worst and this dude is the best and people like him inspire others to be their best under the worst conditions. And that’s a fact!

3 months ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 1

I'm down dooting you because you seem to not fathom the strength it takes to be a leader in an impossible fight for you to merely exist. Then to charge in the mouth of the lion for those who cannot fight for their existence is why he is legend.

3 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Dude, it's a Yoda quote. Don't read into it too much.

3 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

"wars not make one great" Yoda. Missing quotes in a comment section (or anywhere) usually means you forgot the quotation marks around someone else's words, which can look like plagiarism, but often it's just an oversight; use > in text comments for quoting, and if you need to show an error in the original text, use [sic] after the mistake or brackets [] to add/change words for clarity, but be careful not to change the meaning.

3 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You should capitalize wars if you are starting a sentence. Don't forget your closing period.

Stop being a hotshot. Your poetic reply about jumping into the mouth of a lion or something was so ridiculous and this reply is even worse. This is a nice place. Just let it go already. The world doesn't have to be perfect. Maybe go check your blood sugar or take a shit.

3 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I don't see you getting air in a fucking tank. I just see a bunch of hot air coming out of you.
