And here I was a single parent, single income, making 12.75 an hour. We somehow survived, and my ex never paid child support.
itsmy1stsmokebreak
Well congrats on that then! And that sucks about the child support situation.
myballshurt
That math doesnt add up. 68k is not 16/hr

2 working adults in a family of four. 16x2x40x52.
myballshurt
My bad, didnt read the two working adults.
DrDarkwing
How many hours are you working? Normal work year is just over 2000hrs
itsmy1stsmokebreak
I work essentially the nat. average. Also paid above minimum wage. Still don't make enough to live by myself by default in my city.
DrDarkwing
Ditto. I was more getting at 16.54*2080=/68k. More like 33k.

transportation, and other basic necessities." More here: https://livingwage.mit.edu/ 2/2

So if we're arguing that the minimum wage should be based on the COL, the federal minimum should be based on the absolutely(1)

cheapest place to live in the entire country.
itsmy1stsmokebreak
It could be flexibly based on states/regions vs. a flat federal minimum wage that doesn't support the needs of many areas.
