DEADPOOL KILLS THE MARVEL UNIVERSE

Hi I'm Joshua and I'm a nerd. What with all of the Marvel movies coming out I'm sure there's a lot of people who may be curious about what the big deal is with comics. If that is you here are a few comics from Marvel that I enjoy and that I think are a good place to start.

I do not own the rights to any of these properties (like Marvel Studios and the X-Men) I'm just a nerd trying to spread my disease
With the dead Pool movie coming out February 12 I'm sure a lot of people are going to want to read the Merc with a mouth's comics. This is a great place to jump in because you really don't need to know the backstory, basically dead pool kills everything

Secret wars

This is the best event comic that Marvel has ever done. It's a vast in scope and it's so ambitious it took five + years of backstory to lay the foundation for this arc to take place. It's really top-notch comic on the same level as watchmen. Also as a bonus Alex Ross draws all of the covers

New avengers by Jonathan Hickman

This is the comic that laid most of the groundwork for the secret wars event to take place. It's dark dismal and offers little hope for the heroes. What I love about it is it's amazing characterization of black panther, Dr. strange and Namor. All underutilized characters in my opinion. Great read

Uncanny X force by Rick Remender

Best team up ever. A mutant death squad ran by Wolverine and consisting of Deadpool, Archangel, Fantomex And Psylocke work in the shadows to protect mutant and manna like from the impending doom of apocalypse. Seriously this comic is so well-written and so gripping, each character has a satisfying story arc. Plus the fight scenes are bloody brilliant

Daredevil: the devil in cellblock D

What happens when the law finds out that daredevil is actually a lawyer. . Bad things, daredevil gets locked up in the same cells that many super villains who he put away occupy. Very tense very fast-paced very rewarding

Daredevil: demagogue

A church in Hells kitchen sets of meetings for people to come and talk about the daredevil and his affect on the community. What unfolds are various retellings of close encounters and sightings of the daredevil. I love this comic because it's quiet, subdued and has an amazing plot twist

Moon knight: the bottom

Moon Knight is by far my favorite underrated character in the marvel universe. He is a tremendously complex character with multiple personality disorders, major moral flaws and his powers aren't exactly world beating. But that's what makes amazing, he overcome so much. This is the perfect comic to read moon knight if you've never read him before. There is a rumor that he may get his on Netflix show, fingers crossed

Thor: God of thunder

This is how Thor should be written. This is us how Thor is meant to be. No avengers, no Jane Foster, no chick from two broke girls. Just the God of thunder duking it out across the cosmos against a amazingly complex enemy. The art is drop dead gorgeous too

Ultimate fantastic four

This is the only ultimate comic that I prefer to its marvel universe counterpart. It's a fresh take on the FF and it has long term far-reaching consequences throughout the MU

Secret invasion

Half of the heroes on earth have been replaced by aliens and there's no way to tell who is who. What ensues is one of the best events Marvel has ever done and a great starting point if you have never read comics before

X-Men : messiah complex

The X-Men have always been feared and hated and after the events of house of them they find their numbers dwindling. Then something happens and for the first time in a long time the X-Men dare to hope

X-Men: Second coming

This takes place directly after the events of messiah complex. Cable returns with hope, and cyclops finds out about Wolverines secret death squad.this comic has so much incredible violence in action and still manages to emotionally hit home

Marvel universe versus the punisher

Imagine if I am legend start the punisher instead of Hancock

Anti-venom

Venom has turned good… Kinda and teams up with the punisher to take down a drug cartel

House of M

Up until till the recent secret wars this was the best Marvel comic event ever. Magneto rules the world and only Wolverine remembers what the world was like before

Alias

If you've watched Jessica Jones on Netflix you know she's a dark character. Not only is her source material dark but it was the first Marvel comic to drop the F bomb. And it drops it a whole lot

Wolverine: old man Logan

This is one of the most satisfying one shot story arcs you'll ever read. Basically imagine if the game the last of us start Wolverine instead of Nolan North

Dude, what are your thoughts on "The age of apacalypse" series?

Sorry, but the new Secret Wars sucked! The original was much better in my opinion.

Some of these are on my list of favourites too. Nice list, OP.

*some Marvel comics

Secret Wars 2 the best event comic from Marvel? hahahahahahaha

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Comicstorian on Youtube is a pretty good source to check out videos of what happens in comics, too. If you're looking to get into them.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Great post OP! Hadn't read any marvel before and secret wars was my introduction. Love it! Reading the uncanny avengers now.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I could help you get started with Marvel, if you like.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

For me X-Force will always be the 90's team. Cable, Domino, Cannonball, Tabitha, Warpath, Rictor, Shatterstar, Siryn, Sunspot, etc.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

old man logan would be the best movie ever...as far as comic based movies go

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Look at us now

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

the 08 Guardians run is really good but it may need a bit of other comics to explain some things

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Imma let you finish, ok, but nothing is as good as Watchmen. Ok? Good, go on, you're doing great. Thanks.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Nothing? Sex? World peace? Pizza? Pizza isn't as good as Watchmen? Really?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I like Deadpool, but didn't enjoy Deadpool Kills the MU. Seeing my favorite heroes being brutally murdered was just too hard for me :(

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

If I may recommend one as well. Id suggest reading Infinity parts 1 and 2. One of the best comics I've ever read. Marvel or otherwise.

No "Snikt!" http://imgur.com/QmMZB29 Perfect for you manga converts out there.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Favorited, now time for a spending spree!

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

But where can i read all of these!!

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

PM me, I'll help you out!

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Troy Baker was in Last of Us, not Nolan North. Just wanted that out there.

10 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 3

They both were actually.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Nolan North is in it, he's just not Joel.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Is he Bill? Cause I thought that as I posted it.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Love me some Moon Knight. +1 OP

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

While i agree with a bunch on this list, and while i agree it's very good, i don't think secret wars is anything close to the masterpiece 1

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

Watchmen was. Also sad to not see any non Marvel. If you're looking for a good underrated new marvel i would suggest vision. It's the best

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Agreed! Vision is a great comic. I honestly just read marvel. Have ever since I was a kid. No reason for it I read batman but that it for DC

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I feel you.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If you're planning to read these, get Marvel Unlimited. You get all of these in digital format for just @10/month or $70 for the year.

10 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

If you can't afford that and are still interested in one of these, pm me and I'll upload it. But don't forget to support the creators.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I don't know about you, but for me 72% of the joy of comic reading is seeing my ridiculously stocked book shelf. It is expensive though...

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Yeah I've got an Unlimited subscription and I still spend $100-$200 a month on new titles. I am not a smart man.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah! Got my free month last month and have been reading ever since. Sad most series stops at the Jun-Aug releases.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yeah it only goes as recent as six months ago. They still want you buying the new ones. But it's a rolling six months, so check back!

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They keep updating, don't worry :) Secret Wars just started leaking on there

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Dead pool kills the marvel universe is absolutely amazing! I love that one

10 years ago | Likes 59 Dislikes 6

The only one of this list I enjoyed. Definitely was fun read.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 5

Oddball special!!! Rogue and Deadpool!

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Except how poorly every character in the story is written. It's honestly just bad.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

This excludes Ultimate Spider-man which is my favorite comic run of all time. &I know this is a Marvel post, but DC has some great stuff too

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

I personally loved Ultimate Spider-man but it gets a lot of, arguably deserved, flack from comic fans

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

OP said they just honestly mainly read Marvel, so they couldn't recommend DC as much.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Why does nobody ever put links to the comics :( I'm lazy

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You can PM me and I'll help you out.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Idk how to on mobile

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Do it from your browser instead of the imgur app. Don't forget to check back for my reply!

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Some of these stories need SOOOOO much back story to really follow it. Ya should've sticker to one shots. Good list tho!

10 years ago | Likes 53 Dislikes 1

Honestly, who starts a list of comics for new people with the most complex event with the longest run-up ever done? Do NOT start with SW.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

As I told someone else, if you guys want to read these I'll help you on where to start + show you where you can read them for free

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

That's why I haven't really gotten into comics much. I'm a start from the beginning type of guy and that's near impossible with no free time

10 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

A few back story less ones I'm fond of. "Runaways" (the original not the battleworld one), Supurbia, Watchmen, Saga (still running) Fables

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Image has a lot of comics with no backstory, no need to read others– just find one you like and start reading. If you like superheroes, >

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

try Invincible. Only thing is, there aren't as many one-shot stories– Invincible (like Image's other comic) is mostly one continuous story.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Wikipedia does a great job of filling in the gaps for story lines and cross over events so it's easier and cheaper for the general public

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

True. That's where I've gone to in the past but when I read something on there it makes me want to read the comic to see how it happened!

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

truth but sometimes its just not worth the price....at all

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I follow the comicbookherald guide. It gives a complete list as well as a key stories list. I am following the complete list. It takes time

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

r/Marvel also has a FAQ/Guideline for people interested on where to start. Or you can contact me, I'll help.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I apologize ahead of time for any spelling or grammatical errors. Told the descriptions to Siri. I wasn't about to type all that on my phone

10 years ago | Likes 166 Dislikes 2

Don't worry about it. This is a great list. Glad you added moon knight.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Actually impressed that siri did that

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

SECRET WARS is truly amazing, every series has transformed into battleworlds. My favourite will be Star Lord and Kitty Pryde. Fucking adorab

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Siri made you sound foreign to English.

10 years ago | Likes 46 Dislikes 1

Kudos to giving the punisher and Old man logan a mention. They are both great reads and it's good list overall.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Y: the last man is an amazing book. Its a complete set of 20 TPB

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

More, please. Good taste

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thanks so much for this, I'm obsessed with comics so its nice seeing them get some imgur notice ^_^

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I agree!

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

please do DC too! (may b other not so famous but good comics?) @OP I have started from the bottom n old man's a blast.thank you very much :)

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Can I just read Secret Wars on its own or are there 5 years of random comics that I'll need to read before that? I was a bit confused.

10 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

I hadn't read any of the backstory and jumped right into secret wars, it's definitely helpful but not necessary. Have a friend fill ya in to

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

asking the real questions

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

As long as you understand the context, where characters are at, you'll be fine. Just read synopsis of the build up, then secret wars

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Are all of these available via Marvel online??

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If you can't afford that PM me and I'll help you get them for free. Don't forget to support the creators whenever you can, though

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yes! That's how read them is on the marvel comic app. Still gots buy em but it's so convenient

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

fuck the newest secret wars series it was a fucking nightmare for retailers because of all the delays

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

As true as that is, the story was great and did a great job setting up the new universe.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

i dont entirely agree. almost every reader i talked to said they got completely lost. 3 months between #5 & #6 didnt help either

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's pretty legit. But now that it's over if you read it all at once as this is suggesting none of that would be a problem.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

true that. plus it did lead to the mighty thor and i gotta say im a huge fan of lady thor.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm not a huge fan but I still pick it up every month. Thor is one of my favourite comic book characters so I gotta keep up with his stuff:p

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

House of M is awesome. But I also really loved the whole run for civil war

10 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

It freaked me out how powerful Scarlet Witch is. Not just cause of House of M but also making mutants an endangered species after.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Wasn't House of M the setting for the marvel PC game?

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It freaked me out how powerful Scarlet Witch is. Not just cause of House of M but also making mutants an endangered species after.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

It was an incredible storyline.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah, mcu version is nothing compared

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I have the comic "Avengers: Disassembled" and MY GOD Scarlet Witch fucks shit up.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I spent alot of money to read all of civil war and loved it. I'm excited to see it adapted to movie though it'll be a shadow of the original

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

So did I. I had them hanging in. A huge wall in chronological order. They can't even do most of the best storylines I feel like

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah, I am very concerned for this film, not because of the backstory, they just don't have a lot of heroes to cause a lot of damage 1/2

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

2/2 to make Cap's decision make sense. The ones who explode things are all on the opposition (hope that makes sense, I'm purposely vague)
