Scent isn't an omnidirectional sense. Wolverine is smart enough to come at him from the opposite direction of the air flow. Being a scent based tracker he has plenty of experience with this sort of thing.

One of my favorite moments from wolverine was vs Lady deathstrike his daughter had some unresolved anger to let out on her so despite the long history he just sort of asks if Laura got this and then leaves to do other stuff. Both knowing X-23 needed to do this and also trusting her to handle it. Laura beat her by taking some hits and listening for the sounds of important machinery then targeting said machinery while also targeting arteries. The nano bots had finite resources to repair her with.

so the loss of so much blood burned through the resources. By targeted complex machines in deathstrike's joints she slowed her down enough to hold the advantage. Imagine just sitting there getting gutted repeatedly by 9 inch razor blades just so you can flex on the psycho who wounded your friend.

That was a great crew, I never would have expected to love Pyro so much. The only one I felt was missing was Kurt, but I guess he was claimed for the Way of X, to explore the spiritual/religious/philosophical aspects of Krakoan life. And it gave us some of Bobby & Christian Frost, which was a nice pairing.
