In 2009, I enlisted in the Army after finishing an associates degree. It took me way too long to accomplish that degree and I felt like I had put off joining for far too long since I had planned on doing it after high school. I was assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division, 1-505 PIR. I spent 4 1/2 years there and developed a love/hate relationship with the airborne. After re-enlisting and choosing to be moved closer to home, there isn't a day that goes by, where I don't miss it. Now that I'm approaching my third re-enlistment I can't decide if I should go back or try something else with my life. Going back to college scares the crap out of me, but I don't know if I can go the final step and choose indef to finish my career in the military. This is the hardest choice I've ever made. I joined because I believe serving to be the best part of the freedom we have. Didn't think I'd go further than my initial contract, now I'm staring my fourth in the face and it really scares me.

If you're good at what you do, and you want to be there, then stay. The world will still be here when you're ready to stop being awesome

Nice trigger discipline.

There's no right or wrong choice. Just a choice. Either way it's all you. Thank you for your service.

Might as well. Make more connections, professional or otherwise, that you could utilize as a civilian.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Id say if youre close to or at ten finish it out

Stay in. I crossed that threshold and let me tell you it felt great. Finish the degree too.

Thank you for your service. Get a skill that would get you a job in the civilian world. Besides starting your own Weapon Class Course.

Deciding to re enlistnor not was one of the hardest decisions ever and im still not sure if i chose correctly

Think about going back to college and then commissioning. All the goodness of a college degree without the uncertainty of what comes next.

OP, are you an officer? Maybe go mustang and make a career out of it. Or, go for the highest noncom rank, and make a career out of it.

God I love being in the military. But God damnit, I hate the fuck out of it too.

9 years ago | Likes 49 Dislikes 1

It's a love hate fuck relationship.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Then you're doing it right. I hated and loved it at the same time too.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Same applies to most civilian jobs.

I'll have to agree with the other user who replied to you. Obviously you enjoy your job, well, you enjoy it.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As an ex military man my self.. Don't do it stay in till they force you out. I fucking hate civilians and the whiny shit they complain about

9 years ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 7

I hear you. My brother in law just got out, hates people now. Never goes out unless my sister forces him.

9 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

I hated people before I joined now I just hate them more.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

You got enough shit hanging off that rifle?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Whatchu talkin' 'bout?

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Was that a super big woobie?

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Sadly, just a poncho. Muh woobie is never abused like that

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Asking the real questions. I've never seen one that big so I would assume poncho. That said, if it is a big ass woobie I will be buying one

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

and replacing my comforter

As a two tour army vet. Same feelings... also I genrally hated working with airborne units. High and mighty bullshit ruined missions

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

And that concludes "Find the dirty leg". Just like any unit, there are always turds. But trust me, airborne really is a cut above.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm being honest and not sarcastic. How is an air born qualified truck driver better then a leg? How is their Intel guy better?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Because in my experience it means jack shit. A pair of wings means you ran alot for several weeks, doesn't magically make you competent

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

If all truck drivers and intel guys receive the same training up till the end of AIT, but some go on and are forced to fit into a more

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

rigorous environment, those will by default be a better truck driver and intel guy. In the "leg" community, I have seen more blatant

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

violations of regulations and terrible morale than I ever did with the airborne. A unit comprised of people who all volunteered to be in

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

You're cute enough... just get a sugar mama then indulge in all the hobbies! Haha

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Happily married already to an amazing wife that has supported me each time I've re-enlisted!

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Haha well shit! Cheers to the both of you. You'll figure it out. You can do whatever you want if you work hard enough for it

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I'm in college hoping for a shot at the 19th SF and sort of starting same you did ish, you married before or after you got in?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Married after, but was engaged before.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Ok thanks man, I'm planning on getting engaged before. SO has anxiety and the thought of basic is a lot of trouble for her. Trying to help

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Basic is stupid easy

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You chose a job that includes killing people in foreign countries you are attacking. How can you sleep at night?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 20

I bet its pretty easy.... ;)

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

v

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Because If you don't, they'll kill you and reign terror over the area. Also, you're welcome.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Yea fuck that guy

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

No they don't and won't. That's just what your recruiter says. I doubt the Iraqi or Afghan military would have attacked the USA.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 11

Last I checked we fight alongside and train the Afghan and Iraqi militaries. We fought the Iraqi military for a whopping 3 days.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Freely?

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

You mean unlike the civilians in these countries?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 11

I mean America goes on about Freedom etc. all the time. Usually when talking about military. (I'm not American nor for or against war)

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

And I (not American) like to discuss with US Americans that invading other countries is not considered as "protecting your own freedom".

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 10

which country are you from?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Step 1. Crawl into bed tired (this is crucial). Step 2. Fall asleep. Pretty sure that's how most people do it. Correct me if I'm wrong.

9 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 2

Correct you?I'm not sure but shouldn't you use the adverb "tiredly" instead of the adjective "tired"?Sorry if I'm wrong - not native English

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 9

You asked how I sleep at night. That's how I accomplish it.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Then you asked me to correct you. That's what I tried.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 6

Welll you didnt do a good job.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Well I see sarcasm isn't universal...
