Apparently she and her husband (the director) really liked V8. Supposedly a large chunk of the budget went towards the drink. After shooting the crew found pallets of the stuff.
That would be a very bad idea. If fired, you'd burn the shit out of your knee and likely brand your thigh from the barrel heat. Now, if it was simply a holster to draw from, you'd have something, but firing from that position would be a big owie
In early 1996, shortly after it came, I was in grade 8 (first year of high school in Australia, at the time). Weekly inter-school sport was cancelled for our grade, so they borrowed a copy of this movie from a local cinema and had us all watch it as a replacement for the afternoon. Kid-me was mildly entertained.
What ever happened to Geena Davis? She used to be in movies but she's not in movies anymore. She's attractive enough but when she smiles you see too much gum. Not enough tooth to gum ratio.
A thick peice of leather stitched in between the thigh and barrel would be advisable. It would also aim it slightly away from the kneecap which is good.
This sent me down a rabbit-hole. Cutthroat island holds the Guinness world record for biggest box office bomb, and put Carolco Pictures out of business. I'm going to give it a watch, since it seems to have a cult following.
Oh, don't get me wrong. It had fantastic production value for the time, altho some of the practical effects were... meh. But the acting is pretty mediocre (despite the cast) and there is a *lot* of cringey dialogue. Some of the fight scenes have terrible choreography (delayed reactions, punches obviously missing by a mile) and some stunts are just laughably bad because many of them were done by the actors and not professional stuntmen.
That's because it was the cost. You could make the case it was Pirates of the Caribbean before Pirates of the Caribbean both in scope and budget. Obvious Pirates didn't have as much problems as Cutthroat, but I enjoyed them.
Well, here in FInland more than 50% of marriages dies anyway, and he is a Finn. Geena though still visits Finland, i think i read somewhere, she has a island cabin somewhere east of Helsinki Archipelago. I bet it is Porvoo archipelago. Easy access, close to airport and people have seen her regularly at local Supermarket.
I never understood this. I watched it on a whim in the 90s and really liked it. I have seen it a few times since and still appreciate it. Just the wrong movie for that box office I guess.

the movie bombed hard and it ruined her chance of coming back. sad ending

What a gross and unnecessary appraisal of her superficial merit.

To be fair, you were wrong about it being a good movie. It's okay, though. I like some stuff that's pretty shitty. To each their own.

Still bombing
trikucian
I saw it recently and it was way too cheesy and way too long. Apparently it killed pirate movies until pirates of the carribean came along
blinkonceforyes
They marketed it poorly and initial reviews bombed so no one saw it
whatsisname
I thought so too, but I wonder if it's because I was in elementary school when it came out.
LtKernelPopcorn
Have you watched it recently? It... doesn't hold up well.

Love the part where Geena outshuffles a 4-horse wagon galloping at full speed.

Me*** but yeah people rip on it and I guess it wasn't appreciated when it came out, but my family loved it. We watched it all the time.

Took down the studio and most of her career, but it really wasn't particularly bad

Killed pirate movies for a while until Pirates of the Caribbean as I understand it.
HomeRunWoman
Yep, although audiences warmed back up to it after watching Captain Jack Sparrow. And don’t forget Captain Stagnetti too.
