The meme does not say "had sex with" it uses the impersonal "impregnate". Would it be ethical under this set of circumstances: His son lost his testicles. The committed GF wanted her child to have the son's DNA. The professor had sex with, for the purpose of impegnating, the son's GF?
That's how he got the job... the interview was "Tell us the most egregious ethical violation you've committed", and he was the worst of all of the candidates so they hired him.
Is this a thing with ethic's professors because I had a philsophy of ethics professor who was a raging asshole. I actually heard him say to a student "I don't care I have tenure".
Yes it is. It is a well known joke in the philosophy world that the ethics professors are usually just the worst people. Generally good instructors though.
If I had to guess it was about grades because this guy failed just about everybody and I won't pretend like I'm philosophical genius but he was giving me zeroes. Not even a failing grade just zero and like no notes on what was incorrect. I suspect he did that with multiple people.
Student: Hey Professor! Did you know that slugs lie to us about their travel plans? You can add that to your resume and maybe it will help you get tenure
Sam Bankman Fried of FTX billion dollar scam fame's dad is an ethics professor at Stanford. He's reportedly also the person who taught Peter Thiel how to pay as little in taxes as possible. Being an ethics professor clearly doesn't mean you care about the subject whatsoever.
A person could become a medical doctor and still smoke and drink and not exercise and over work and be over stressed and STILL be a good doctor. Being an ethics professor means you are KNOWLEDGEABLE about ethics, to the point you are able to advise legal teams and be called before a judge etc. Doesn’t mean they are good people. In fact, there’s a pretty well known rule that most academics started off trying to understand themselves, so wouldn’t surprise me that field attracted sociopaths lol
Oh, God, the stories. Are any of these guys decent human beings? I'll tell you one of my best. We had one of these clowns. A Havvard [sic] professor. One of my friend's wife was in his class (I'd taken the class the year before). One day, when the class for whatever reason, had failed to live up to his expectations, he went off on a rant about how none of them would ever amount to anything. My friend's wife stood up, and said " I am a perfusionist (google it). Last year I made 150K (1990 $).
Last month, > a surgical team flew me to ND on a 10M$ private jet to try and recruit me. They offered me 200K to join their team. I turned them down. You sir, have nothing to teach me". Picked up her things and walked out.
Sounds like she was right, she worked in medical field and made a reasonable wage for her work(given how important that work is, very fair pay), so what good was his class to her?
As I understand it, the Missions aren't really as much about converting people as they are for you do discover how alone/special/different you are and how much people look at you strangely, so you run home and bond with the church instead of that big wide scary discriminatory world.
Pretty much. They want young people to experience being rejected by society at large, so that they'll run back to the community at the end and do whatever it takes to not be pushed out into the scary world. And it's scary how well it ends up working for the most part.
Really? I thought they couldn't tell that was a bad thing. Like the catholic church as well... The clergymen/congregation all look around and say "looks good to me fellas".
Oh right their position is that child sexual assault is bad. But if that child is married to a man twice (or more, often more) then it’s not sexual assault because they’re married… did I get that one right there? Pretty sure I did.
I had a professor that called all videos movies. Documentary? Movie. Lesson? Movie. Anything on YouTube? Movie. He was an interesting guy, but man…that bothered me…
to make the whole thing even worse, he's the one who brought it up and was instructing us on how to pronounce it. several of us were definitely giving each other the look

Meanwhile the history major sitting in class is thinking, "Those who do not learn history are doomed to repeat it."

Very utilitarian. His son is definitely sterile.

Did he do it with ethically sourced goods?
rbudrick
So he learned from experience. Kinda required for the job.

I knew a family, where the minister husband ran off with his son's wife.
1BadPanda
Still messed up, but the son dodged a bullet and probably already knew about his Dad.
BlueStripedTwink
That's a wild title đź’€
Skr121
How does the gf even get to that? If my significant other's mom started hitting on me, I'd be gone so fast.
c0dengo
Trying to get revenge on her cheating boyfriend by sleeping with his dad I bet. Like father like son and etc
Skr121
Ah. And ew. And EWx2.
StellarJay77
Actually this makes sense, it's way easier to teach something when you know its antithetical counterpart.
kittykat
Not his son's ex-girlfriend?

That's cause they know the entire breadth and width of their content including the antithetical areas.

Knowing ethics is not the same as having morals

MBA. She didn't need it, but figured it would enhance her value in the workplace.

So he saved his son from a promiscuous cheating girlfriend. Well done!

Well, yes, but the joke is supposed to be the funny side of the coin, not the real side of it.

Eh... Doubt
FiftyShadesOfCauliflower
It seems about as doubtful as corrupt public servants or child-raping priests.
BlueDsc
I don't see why. Professors being shitheads is not a particularly uncommon thing.
onlyhalfghost
I've had many profs, running the gamut from those I socialized with out of class to those dickheads. But the dickheads get tenure.
wadatahmydamie
Yeah, it doesn’t seem that outlandish at all really.
evilspock
Being able to teach ethics doesn't imply you're ethical. I can tell you an awful lot about the Mormon Church and I'm an atheist.
iamOzymandiasLookOnMyWorksDumbassAndDespair
Nooooo, an atheist? Here? Do people pat you on the back and buy you things?

Irregular reminder that the failed crypto banker with the afro was raised by a pair of ethics profs.

Oh, I get quite a few downvotes, but they make me smile usually.

Being born and raised in the LDS religion, going to seminary as teenager and serving a mission is what made me atheist.
SlickWithaLimerick
I managed to break away in my teens, 20 years later, my whole family is out. So weird drinking with them.

RIGHT?! But also a good time.

Did they make the wrong sounds or simply emphasize the wrong syllable?

wrong syllable: like, su-PER-FULL-iss. it's the FULL part he kept saying

so wrong sound also I guess

I think that would drive me nuts if they didn't have an accent that clearly indicated English was not their first language.
