5 Charged with involuntary manslaughter in Flint

Flint was wrestling with outbreaks of Legionnaires’ disease, prosecutors say.

Five officials in Michigan, including the head of the state’s health department, were charged on Wednesday. It is the closest investigators have come to directly blaming officials for the deaths and illnesses that occurred when a water contamination crisis enveloped this city.

Nick Lyon, the director of the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, was charged with involuntary manslaughter and misconduct in office, felonies that could lead to as much as 20 years in prison. Dr. Eden V. Wells, the chief medical executive for the department, was charged with obstruction of justice and lying to a peace officer, and could face up to seven years if convicted. They are among 15 current and former state and local officials facing criminal charges

It's funny how quick people are to believe this is justice. Middle management is always the prime target to be the scapegoats for people.

lol. "first world country"

Charged with. We'll see what sticks. No justice yet my friend but we're on the path.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I have no idea what this is about. I just see a bunch of "trucker bombs. AKA: pee bottles.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

A sixth was charged with obstruction of justice and a few other things as well.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I love that accountability has been doled out, I just hope they got all the right people who were involved, and not just scapegoats

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

This America, you can be sure they're just scapegoats.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Legionnaires' disease is no fucking joke, shit took my mother inches from death.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I think 12 people did die.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I, for one, absolutely love this. These dirt bags lied to the american public all in the name of saving face and for what? They actually 1/2

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

2/2 cost people their lives. It's a shame, its now 2017 and incidents like this are a RECENT memory...wtf.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Going to a jury in the area... they just might get a conviction or two

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Bring justice with you, friend.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

he doesn't get to call himself "Doctor" anymore, and neither should we

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That's great to hold someone accountable, but what's the status of getting these people clean water?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

And some posts ago, they were arguing, if the US was a first world country or not...

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Charged? OK. I'd be surprised if they're found guilty or even do any time.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Legionnaires' Disease sounds like a baller-ass sickness to come down with

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

We need to keep putting the fear of God into elected officials.

8 years ago | Likes 33 Dislikes 6

I'd settle for fear of voters.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Or how about we just keep religion out of state offices?

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 3

leprosy? flint is having outbreaks of fucking leprosy? leprosy is required for someone to be charged for that tragedy? for fucks sake.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You lied to the guy in the chair

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Rick Snyder needs to do the perp walk.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They here's hoping Susan Hedman from the EPA is next.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Since this was both dems and reps, most thought nothing would ever happen. Then Trump got elected... So thank you God Emperor?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Water board them with flint water

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

2 years and they'll be out. If it takes that long....

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

All good and well but is the water fixed now?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

OK Now what about the water issues in parts of California that are in worse condition than Flint?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Only 20 years? That should be multiple lifetime sentences if they have adequate evidence against him personally.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

There's no justice until the pipes are fixed and the brown water is gone for good.

8 years ago | Likes 74 Dislikes 0

so you muricans have loads of guns right, this sure seams the time for anonamous threats and mob mentallity

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I thought that the pipes were fixed, but that there was still bad water in the system.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

No, they switched back to the original water source, but the damage was done.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Trump just allocated a ton of money for that and work has begun to replace city pipes.

8 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 11

You mean via the EPA that trump is trying to underfund by 30%? Very nice of him.

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Is there a sauce for this?

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Just google Flint water pipe replacement program or something like that.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 3

* EPA awarded the grant money, which was funded under legislation signed by President Obama. http://www.snopes.com/epa-grant-flint-water/

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Yeah. I shouldn't have implied it was Trump's idea. But he did decline to change that part of it.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Drinkable water first, prosecutions soon after.

8 years ago | Likes 93 Dislikes 5

Technically you could do both at the same time. They aren't on the same critical path.

8 years ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 0

I don't think there's an overlap between the "People who fix water" and "People who prosecute" groups. You can do both at the same time

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Haha I like how you worded this.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thanks. Kinda a pet peeve this kind of thought process, happens all over the place. Take games for example, you have a game with a bug, and>

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

20 years for poisoning an entire city? Is it me or does that seem a bit...lenient

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 2

I dunno, it seems reasonable to me. At least it would be if he served 20 years, more likely to be 10 or so.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

See, that's kind of my problem. 20 is assumed to be the worst for him but we all know they, likely, won't get the max.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yup, it's terrible. Still, 20 years is just fine. It doesn't sound like much on paper, but is way longer than it sounds.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

20 years per victim would be better than tack a 0 or two onto the end just to be sure. :P

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I wish it was per victim. That would make much more sense to me lol

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Make it per victim per year and I'm even happier. :P

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

How the fuck Trump want to build a wall when Flint still doesnt have clean drinking water?

8 years ago | Likes 50 Dislikes 25

Who has that twitter post about America being a 3rd world country with smartphones?

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 6

Because Mar-A-Lago isn't IN Flint...

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Because he has friends who work in construction but not in Michigan water management?

8 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 7

The same way Obama got anything done when this was happening. Ignore it.

Except Obama signed a bill back in December directing $170 million toward Flint to address and solve the water issue.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

And what could Obama have done

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

The same things Trump can or can't do. Which is probably nothing

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Um trump actually helped flint with 100 million dollars

8 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 21

Sauce?

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Funnily, I haven't heard him talk about the wall for ages since all he does lately is looking like a fat kid trying not to drown in a sea~

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 8

~ of lawsuits and allegations... Keeps him occupied

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 4

There isn't anything to talk about rn. IIRC they're currently taking bids for contracts from construction firms.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I thought that everyone doesn't need a reason to talk about something- especially if it's how great he is at everything...

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

One is a state issue the other is federal?

8 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 6

Well maybe it should be federal governments job to step in since apparently it has taken several years to do anything to this situation

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 7

You probably aren't aware of this, but replacing an entire city's water infrastructure can't be done overnight

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

Of course that wasn't what I meant...
