Wait until you read Pat's Editor's latest quotes about Doors of Stone...they're a doozy...

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Guys relax, he meant the next July 29, 2020, not this one.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

He just hase a cage fetish. Don't reward him

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If he's not done on time maybe he can let a cable company finish it for him.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I just want to hear the rest of Tyrion’s joke!

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

He SPECIFICALLY said if he didn't have it at the con in New Zealand today. He can't bring a book to NZ right now. Win by technical KO!.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Fuck this guy

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

GRRM has never, in his entire life, finished a story, even from his days as a HEROSystem GM in college.

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Everyone is here complaining about him, he didnt ruin the show. The books are amazing and reading them makes me appreciate the time spent.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Hey this man gives me courage! If he can take this long to write a book, and still get published afterwards, me taking 1.5 years is okay.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

He does have a chance to fix the ending.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

He's not going to finish the series nor does he want to, he knows nothing he writes will be good enough and he's afraid of losing his fandom. https://ezmusic.ir/

10 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm sort of over it.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I mean as of right now he still has 14 hours Pacific time. /s

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

GRRM is the embodiment of the film "Wonder Boys" https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0185014/

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Let him take his time. The books were a lot better. Even if the ending is similar, i'm sure it will have a lot more sense

5 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 2

Agreed but I don't thik he'll finish. After TWoW, hes gonna write a Dunc and Egg story, then Fire and Blood 2, THEN ADoS. That's 15-20years.

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

dont care about that bitch anymore

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

At this point just pick your favorite fan theory, there are plenty. It will be better, if any book even comes in the future

5 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It actually did come out today. Long link:

5 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 5

5 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 1

I’m pretty sure zero people care at this point.

5 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 4

I care. There are dozens of us. Dozens!

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

it should be simple: the night king wins and everyone dies.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I want Bran to skinchange into one of the others back in time. That fan theory was so much better than whatt they did on the show

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That character hasn't even been introduced in the book.

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

doesnt matter. all white walkers can raise dead. as long as the average zombie kills at least one man before being killed theyll win.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Why do people not appreciate the meta, of GoT unexpectedly being murdered by... itself?

5 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

This. When I thought about how I won't find out what happens it dawned on me...he killed off the reader!

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

He isn't going to finish it, neither is Rothefuss

5 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Please Rothfuss. Finish Doors of Stone. Best two books I've ever read in my life.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You know he won’t, sadly

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I still keep faith, I have to

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

He's not going to finish the series nor does he want to, he knows nothing he writes will be good enough and he's afraid of losing his fandom

5 years ago | Likes 168 Dislikes 11

Hate me if you want but his writing style doesn't lend itself to cathartic endings. I love his books but so unsatisfying- like Nightflyers

5 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Too late for that

5 years ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 1

Yeah, someone beat him to fucking it up. Any old shit he lashed together while on a 3 month whisky and cocaine bender would be better.

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Ahh, the OG Steven King method. It did yield some impressive results back then

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Suuuuuuure that's what it is.

5 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

I mean, he could use the time-tried DM cheat of listening to what his readers THOUGHT should have happened with the show.

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Have you heard the word of our lord and savior, Brandon Sanderson?

5 years ago | Likes 36 Dislikes 1

That guy is prolific and yet high quality

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Holy shit his young adult series are basically his relaxation projects are they're still epic, like Starsight

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Was Steelheart young adult? Even if it was, I loved that whole thing.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah it was :)

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

He lives like 20min away from me, one of these days I'll run into him while grocery shopping I just know it

5 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

If you do, swallow a nail in front of him and then act like you’re pushing your cart with your mind.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I've met him at a couple of signings and he's super awesome! He'll answer any questions you've got so long as they don't spoil anything.

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I give his youtube a look on occasion as he often post writing tips. He strikes me as a genuine guy who is really thankful of his fans.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

If you want to do a deep dive, he's uploaded his entire lecture series from BYU on writing sci-fi/fantasy. https://youtu.be/-6HOdHEeosc

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Oooh, I wasn't aware. Thank you! Only writing for hobby purposes, but I do find he has some good advice for how to go about it.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Unpopular opinion: GRRM doesnt owe us shit and we shouldn't be mad at him. He can work on what he wants at whatever pace he wants. 1/2

5 years ago | Likes 263 Dislikes 41

He is the writer. If he doesn’t want to finish it he doesn’t have to ??‍♂️

5 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 11

On the one hand yes, it's his prerogative to do what he wants. On the other hand, he shouldn't keep saying he's gonna write it if he's not.

5 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 2

Well he most likely is on a contract with publishers as they do prefer finished works

5 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

100% this, but also, don't promise deadlines you can't make.

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

rothfuss? that you?

5 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 0

Rothfuss did this for one book. GRRM has done this for at least the last three, totaling 20+ years. Granted 9 years is long for any wait...

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Still, 9 years for one book is better than 20 for three books. And then, conversely, we have Sanderson.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Lol. This made me laugh but I also need the sad baby as well.

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

[You are blocked from following PatrickRothfuss on Twitter and viewing PatrickRothfuss's tweets, because how dare you.]

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

That being said, please finish it really I'm really emotionally invested 2/2

5 years ago | Likes 156 Dislikes 9

Disagree. You can't ask people to buy your book and then decide you're too undisciplined to finish it.

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 6

That depends on how many people will refuse to buy it in protest whenever he DOES finish it. See: The Dark Tower series.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Popular opinion in response: True, but people can be pissed about it (as long as they stop short of shit like threats)

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

He shouldn't lie. He said that Feat of Crows was too big so he split it into two books and that Dw/D would be released in a year, took 6

5 years ago | Likes 34 Dislikes 2

He also said Winds of Winter would be out faster than Dw/D, estimating at 3 years (we're up to 9 and still no news).

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

What pissed me off is I got my gf's uncle into it and every time I saw him he'd ask me if the book was out like it was my fault.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

He's not lying. He's just too optimistic

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Jean Auel took like 30+ years to write 6 books. And the last 2 sucked. Book6 had so many discontinuities from the previous books.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

12 years between books 4&5, 9 years between 5&6.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Try Tales of the Malazan Book of the Fallen. All finished

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Malzan Book of the Fallen is fantastic. I just want the expanded universe of that to be finished. So good

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Let's face it, there is no ending. The HBO series was the firsr draft, it flopped and now he's panicking.

5 years ago | Likes 861 Dislikes 21

MAYBE IT'S LIKE NO MANS SKY? a shit thing because someone else came along and ruined it (in that case it was the media in this case hbo)

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

The Witcher books are pretty good

5 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

The series only flopped because they got ahead of Martin. The 5th book ends with Jon Snow's death. All that followed was inferior writing.

5 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Those end points could have been good, they just did not build up to them well

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

No he just legit takes forever to finish a book. If you project out based on past release times, this looks normal.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Its 2023. It'll never happen.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I don't think that's it. I think he saw how large an audience he could reach, and how quickly he could develop stories, with TV. And now /1

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

he's interested in it as a new medium. He's working on prequel stuff. I mean, he already basically handed over the ending to ASOIAF. He'd /2

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

do it better in the books, obviously, but the fact is the ending's already out there now. It must feel less satisfying to sit there and /3

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

just wrap it all up when everyone's seen the end. I think he's done with those books. /4

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

3.5yrs later, and you were right. There was a prequel in film instead. Still no book

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

nah GRR writes how i dm dnd, it kinda just develops as it goes along, thats why hes always been slow in writing. 1/2

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 3

p sure he just had to make up an ending for the tv execs, and seeing how people hated how they did it hes just taking his time, i would

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

i always have a rough outline for the story, but its barebones, im assuming thats what they got

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Literally just take one of the million fan theories. Literally all of them were better

5 years ago | Likes 115 Dislikes 7

IIRC he's had it planned from the beginning and commented that at least one fan theory was right. Wouldn't say which though.

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Crowdsource the final books.

5 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 0

To be honest.....the core of the hbo ending wasn’t bad. It’s just that the set up and execution was.

5 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 1

Bran being king is still the dumbest thing ever though

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

He wasnt involved with the story for HBO after S6? The ending is correct... but its how they got there that is different

5 years ago | Likes 45 Dislikes 2

We don't know. The general gist of the ending is fine and very much foreshadowed in the books, it's the million little things that are bad.

5 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 3

Yeah, that wasnt martin... And im pretty sure that it was stated that Martin broke off from the show to work on Winds of Winter

5 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Probably would have been fine if they took a couple more seasons to arrive at that ending instead of rushing it so badly.

5 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

A lot of it would have been salvaged with one extra sit-down to think about how to this logically. Literally every problem had an answer(1)

5 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

that was alluded to or foreshadowed already.(2)

5 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Most people aren't upset with the ending but more of HOW they got there (ie Dany forgetting about euron and getting 360 no scoped)

5 years ago | Likes 43 Dislikes 3

How many battles in the show were not a TOTAL SURPRISE to one side? I don't think anyone in TV Westeros has ever thought of scouting.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Scouting? Is that when you send all your cavalry into the darkness as a prove of the zombie army

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

SO stupid. Losing a dragon because no one decided to look in that particular direction and see the Greyjoy ships.

5 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Not to mention, 3 or 4 direct hits from such a far distance yet they miss countless strikes when they get closer

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

CGI budget cuts meant they could only keep one dragon

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

BULLLLLLLL, they been able to have multiple dragons before and that was before they were big hits. They could've EASILY gotten around it

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

tbf hitting a cruising target at range is a bit easier than trying to hit a changing one in close quarters, but hitting at all was iffy. >>

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

>> not like they have target draggers to practice with. although I guess it's possible missed volleys may have gone unnoticed.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The time they missed, drogon was giving right towards them and they still missed shots

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I’ve given up on the books. He wants to write 2 more books after winds of winter. That’s still agleast 20 more years just for those 2

5 years ago | Likes 210 Dislikes 3

He could get someone else to finish it. The Wheel of Time was finished by a different author after the first died.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This is why I can never actually read that book series. I won't start reading/getting involved in something unfinished

5 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

There's only one book planned after Winds of Winter. But at the rate he's writing, 20 years seems about right anyway.

5 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Oh good. Last I saw he wasn’t sure if Dream of Spring would be enough to end the series. Hopefully

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Either way we are never gonna be able to read it. No offence to the dude but he’ll probably be dead before last book is finished

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

There is a very slight possibility he is writing multiple books at the same time, to have story lines converge and all that...

5 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

Nah he admitted to having scrapped a bunch of stuff as the show was going and starting over. Honestly while I wish him well if he died at

5 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Oof. Oh well.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Least the replacement author would finish in a decade

5 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

He says that he doesn’t want anyone else to work in it and burn it

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I gave up in 05 after waiting 5 years for Crows and hating it. Laughed when the next one took another 6 years.

5 years ago | Likes 65 Dislikes 0

I can’t even remember if I read it. Everything after the red wedding is a blur in my mind

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Took me till 2011 since i liked crows and waited patiently only to dislike dance with dragons... Well, tbf took another couple yrs

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Hm I thought he was pretty consistently with 5/6 years right up until that knot he was talking about with how to solve everyone goin to

5 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

Daenarys at the same time. At this point I just wnt to know what happens with victarion, dont care about the rest. So many good booksouthere

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Mereenese Knot? The Dorne plots were pretty useless, not sure why he wasted time on them.

5 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

The Dornish alliance with Jon Connington and Rhaegar’s supposed heir is cool.

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Man I hope you guys arnt Berserk fans...

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

On and off. Same problem

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

But Ice and Fire is worse.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I am, and a new chapter was released last week!

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Season 8 of GoT was so bad that I don't care about GoT anymore

5 years ago | Likes 364 Dislikes 9

me too

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I didn't even watch the TV series past S2, so I didn't get burned too bad. Still no interest in the next book. It's been too long.

5 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 1

It was. A dominant figure in pop-culture. Now it's about as relevant as Baja Men, or pimp my ride

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Agreed. Season 7 was bad. Season 8 was so much worse that I completely lost any interest I had in it.

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Yup, they Dexter’d it.

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Dexter is still worse

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Cruel, but true.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah I realised seeing this post that my passion for the books is pretty much dead as well. Such a shame.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Completely agree. Its incredible how that one season destroyed the rest of the show. 10 years down the drain.

5 years ago | Likes 88 Dislikes 1

For me it was s7

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

It was bad even before that. The thing that kept people interested was the possibility of it delivering satisfying climaxes to storylines.

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Give up on an epic series of books because a TV show didn't live up to expectations? Really? No show or movie is ever as good as the books.

I think you're overestimating how much impact he would have had even in an advisory role.

5 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Fight Club would like a word.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The show hasn't been following the books since season 8. There's several major characters from the books that are t even in the show.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

*spoilers* in the books Westeros is getting invaded by another Targaryen named Young Griff using the Golden Company

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Never has a cultural phenomenon experienced round the world so quickly disappeared from the public mind.

5 years ago | Likes 36 Dislikes 1

How I Met Your Mother was also crucified for its ending. I can't even rewatch it anymore.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You don't have a very good background in cultural phenomena then. This happens every time.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Seems a bit petty, like judging the entire career of a musician based on 25% of the album's they've released

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 4

I judge Kanye West based on releasing a his E minor song...

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's valid when they're all linked. Albums typically aren't written like that.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Actually no, still invalid. We enjoy things in a singularly momentary instant. The feelings you had in early seasons, still exist, and 1/2

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

are still valid. Same reason you can be happy to be broken up with X-gf, but still remember the good times.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

To hate the whole based on a part, you might as well give up on anything that continues outside your comfort zone. Acceptance is part of love

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2
