Have those exact bait holders in my pots, they don’t work well compared to the good old wire square bag things , they are such a pain

@RalphMaccio we will spare you

That crab is accountable for the destruction of its own habitat.

In Russia trap crab you

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's not his first rodeo

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Fuckin sea spiders

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Meh, it got lucky. It wasn't really a targeted effort, more brute force. Try and hope.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Can we talk about WHY IS THERE A CAMERA IN A CRAB POT?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Haha

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

No one messes with Citizen Snips.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Crabs are people! Clams are people! Legit or quit!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I like how he opens it fast but closes it immediately with his little claw

8 years ago | Likes 146 Dislikes 0

Haha dumb animal

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Why not a screw on lid or some sort of lid lock

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Because then only the octopuses would steal the bait.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That's why your supposed to wire them shut

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I for one welcome our new crab overlords

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If a toy is on my dogs bed, he doesn’t know how to move it and admits defeat and sits somewhere more uncomfortable.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I like to pinch

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Hahaha, if he's such a smart crab, how did he get stuck in water though?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Its not his first rodeo.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Survival of the fittest, when you fish all the stupid crabs, only the smart ones breed.

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

Doesn't seem to work that way with deer.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Need smart deer for that.

The ocean is full of smart little fuckers, it's terrifying and fascinating all at once

Crabs are great problem solvers, so long as the solution to the problem is "Grab it and pull hard."

8 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 0

He's not that smart, really. I could have opened that nearly twice as fast.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

For me it's only terrifying.

... For example

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Can we just appreciate that he only takes one? I appreciate non - greedy crabs

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

I've never seen the little bait holder thing. We always just tied the bait to the trap with twine.

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Same, one time I used a bit too much twine and the crab pulled the chicken free of the trap. It was okay as the crab came up with the bait.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

They're learning... It's only a matter of time.

8 years ago | Likes 378 Dislikes 3

If you try try try

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Dee, we're crab people now. Live and die by the sea.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I, for one, welcome our new crab overlords.

Crab people!

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

you're talking about a creature which for hundreds of thousands of years had removed meat from shells, etc. just doing it's job.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I'll bet you're fun at parties...

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Not when I start ranting about the ocean. ;) Especially the state of the coral reefs.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

1) yeah... but, also: there are countless examples of wild animals learning new behaviors directly from human hunting interactions.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

2) there are also multiple examples of different types of monkeys teaching each other to use tools in the wild.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

3) they are learning. and i find it exciting.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

This isn't an ape though, let alone a mammal. It's basically a marine spider. It's just doing what it's hardwired to always do. Lol.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

How's the trap supposed to work?

8 years ago | Likes 57 Dislikes 0

.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Maybe they are supposed to just stay around the bait until someone gonna pull the net up?

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

"Ring trap" Its attached to a string, once you think youve got one you yank on the string and it's caught. Source: I'm from Maryland.

8 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

I believe the net just sits on the bottom for a few hours. The crabs investigate the bait and the fisher pulls the net up

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

It's called a hoop net. You just pull it up randomly and hope to catch 'em in the act.

8 years ago | Likes 53 Dislikes 0

That seems like there is probably a better way

8 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

You can ask them politely but translaters are expensive.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah, amateur fishermen are limited to hoop nets in a lot of areas (U.S. at least) to protect the crab populations from over fishing.

8 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

This is what I use. Put fish guts or whatever in there, the crab goes inside, and can't get out. https://imgur.com/VqfrumL

In Texas we use chicken drumsticks with a mesh baggy over them, their claws get stuck in the mesh, you pull em to the surface and put [1[

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Your net underneath them and retrieve. It's quick, effective and you can catch a few hundred in the morning and have a fry in the evening.[2

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

i always just tied a piece of chicken to a string and had the string set on a post.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Yes, I always felt the traps were cheating.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I always just accidentally catch them when I am reeling in a fish

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

reeling up a tag'along is always fun
