I visited the USAF Museum at Wright Patterson AFB last week and it was awesome. Really no other reason to go to Ohio.

F-22 Raptor (edit late night potato spelling)

F/A-117 Nighthawk

A-10 Warthog (brrrrrrt)

B-1B Lancer (but I know her well enough to call her Bone - edit to show familiarity)

X/B-70 Valkyrie (the back end)

X/B-70 Valkyrie (front end)

X-29 (X-Wing)

MIRVs (multiple independent re-entry vehicles) from an ICBM

ICBMs (these cause messes)

I don’t remember rocket thing

F-4 Phantom

Friendly hydrogen bomb

P-51 Mustang

Messerschmitt 262A

RQ-4 Globalhawk (global chicken)

Don’t remember but someone will tell me (edit - It’s a B-17G...didn’t see placard when posting)

Little German fighter (edit so that I look like less of an ass) - Achtung! Spitfire! Yes, fought Germans.

The Strawberry Bitch

Orange thing

A training incident

(Edit) There were so many more that I just couldn’t post (pics didn’t turn out or they were panoramic and wouldn’t post). Therapy dog tax at the Dayton Airport (Sunshine). If you’re ever in the area this museum is really worth about four hours of your time. (Another edit: I made another post with some of panoramic shots and others that I forgot: https://imgur.com/gallery/7IjUL)

I live in Cleveland and never heard of this. I gotta check it out.

pro tip: take a pic of the placard beside the unfamiliar things so you have the name when you upload.

I love Ohio. Cleveland, Cincinnati, Columbus, Metro parks, Lake Erie. Great lakes = oceans without all the crap that can eat or sting you.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, West Side Market, Cedar Point, Put-in-Bay, Cleveland Indians, Cavs, ...

8 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 2

I love this place! I also feel like I have most of the same pictures lol

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Grew up 3 miles from the museum! I agree..it's awesome!

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Most of old jet & plane become art canvas drew by pilot or crew which hardly to find nowadays. Is it pop culture or currently not allowed?

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

This is about 45 mins. from us, we have enjoyed visiting there a few times

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I can't quite explain what it is, but I have a serious love affair with the F-22

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

No explanation needed. It’s totally awesome

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The state of presidents cmon.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Ummmm cedar point?!

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Work at WP and lifer in Dayton. This has always been an amazing FREE attraction. Four huge hangars of history as well as outside eye candy

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Went to college in Yellow Springs! Much love for Dayton area in our house!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Almost forgot. Missile silo and a cool IMAX theatre as well.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

4 hours? Two days if you don’t read all the history and stories on the walls, 3 to 4 days if you read everything.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I saw the a-10 warhog and immediately looked to the description, internally thinking....there better be a brrrrrrrrt there.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Rock and roll Hall of Fame is in Ohio.

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Cleveland, about 3.5 to 4 hours away

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

“Re-entry vehicle” is such a nice term for nuclear fucking warhead.

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

The Reentry vehicle comprises a small thermonuclear device, a reentry and neutron reflection shield usually made of depleted uranium...

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

And the necessary fusing and guidance hardware. It's not a "Nuclear Fucking Warhead" ... it's a self contained engine of Armageddon.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Dayton is my home! The museum is awesome!

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Did you find the old decepticon?

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yeah, but technically he is at the air and space annex south of Dulles

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

"Orange Thing " is it a P-63?

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Yes. It was used as target practice for ceramic .50 cal rounds.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Rocket Thing is an SM-62 Snark nuclear cruise missile. The wikipedia page has snaps of the same Dayton example:

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Wow, a lot has changed since I was last there. Nice to see they got new stuff. Really great museum.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

A fourth hangar opened last year housing all the experimental planes that used to be on the base.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Hey, @OP, you didn't even see the presidential plane annex, or the blackbird, or the YF-12, or post pics of the gondola...

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

... the one Felix Baumgartener just recently beat... or hell, Bock's Car.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

No, i totally did, but those pics were all panoramic and wouldn’t post well

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

The MIRV bus is off a Peacekeeper... each of those Depleted Uranium clad warheads was accurate enough to be dropped right on a silo hatch.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

We actually cancelled the program during the 1980s as part of one of the SALT treaties. I got to see that thing when it was being restored.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The ballistic missiles used to be outside, until the Atlas (which requires a compressor to keep it pressurized) sprung a leak and collapsed.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What's there to do in other states that you can't do in Ohio?

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Large cities, mountains, oceans, deserts, canyons, rainforests, swamps, open space that isn't agriculture, literally so many things haha

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Climb a mountain.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Maybe not a mountain but there's plenty of rock climbing in Hocking Hills and other places around Ohio

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

The main reason I don't live in Indiana anymore: Mountains. They have them here, nothing close there.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I want to live in that hangar

8 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 0

I bet you could manage if you tried hard enough. All of those planes are a giant cavity waiting to be explored.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That place is awesome! and also mega haunted

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Dude, there are four giant hangers!

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Good, then I can live in one and also have three vacation homes.

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Tony Packo's Chili, Ceder Point, Kings Island. A few other things to visit in Ohio

8 years ago | Likes 37 Dislikes 2

Kings island? Are you joking? I wouldn't go there if I lived next door

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 4

Why not? Just curious. I’ve lived near by it and love going. I’ve even worked there.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I’ve went several years for Rock on the Range in Columbus that’s fun as shit

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Don't forget TWO pro football teams

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

R&R Hall Of Fame, Hocking Hills...

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Rest and recreation? Like a air plan hangar full of lawn chairs

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Mansfield Reformatory, Columbus Zoo.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I will accept Ceder Point

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 5

Kings Island is pretty badass too.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The zoo has been named one of the best in the country

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Ceder point is like a second home for me during the fall. I work there during "halloweekends"

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If you're a roller coaster fan, yup.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And Fiona the hippo!

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

That F-4 is Gen. Robin Olds plane. His other 2 kill where in my dad's F-4. I have pictures for proof.

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

neat

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Fucking love Robin Olds. Dude is my hero. I met his daughter and she was awesome.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You read his book? It's pretty damn good.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Well, it was written by his daughter after they’d gathered all his accounts. And yes I have. So many times. It’s one of the best out there.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yea my dad's even mentioned in it.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

What’s his name if you don’t mind me asking? Was he on the Bolo MiG Sweep?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yes he was. I'll PM some info.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

#16 is a B-17G Flying Fortress

8 years ago | Likes 102 Dislikes 0

What a sexy bird :)

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The others I know (In order of appearance): P400 or P39, P63, P40E, Dauntless(?), P-26

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

G model. Chin turret is a dead give away.

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

The ol' Memphis Bell.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Same plane, but that's not the Belle

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The Memphis Bell, an older B-17F, is almost done being restored at the museum. When it’s done it’ll be put on display (May 2018).

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

The airplane shown above, Shoo Shoo Shoo Baby, a B-17G, is supposed to be given back to the Smithsonian Museum.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The thing I am most disappointed in is how poorly Memphis treated that plane when they had it. Disgraceful.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Wright-Patt in dayton, Hocking Hills, south of lancaster, Cedar point, Sandusky, Kings Island, Cinci, and I've lived here all my life.

8 years ago | Likes 74 Dislikes 0

Sorry you live in Ohio

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 14

eh, it has its moments of adequacy

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Reasonable housing. Rock and roll hall of fame, Columbus, Ohio state games, pro football hall of fame, cosi, lake Erie.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Where the fuck does op live? Somewhere more shitty, Indiana?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I appreciate the mention of cinci. It really is a great place

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

There are dozens of us on here!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Plus we have great football teams... ok nevermind

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ohio state

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Adding Columbus zoo as well

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

COSI too, if you're already in Columbus

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

+1 for Cinci.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ohio is really nice in my opinion. Much f'ing better than shithole Utah.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

It's....it's Utah...... Other than Mormons what do they have?..... Desert? Who the fuck likes sand?....

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

After moving to West Virginia from Ohio, there’s certainly worse places to live...

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

#sorry

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Have accepted Ceder Point

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Going to be getting a hyper loop too

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Isn't Cedar Point a few hours north of there?

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

From Dayton it's about 80 miles give or take.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yup! But there’s a closer amusement park called Kings Island that I enjoy more than Cedar Point. They’re owned by the same people.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Hocking Hills area is fucking beautiful... except for all the fat parents and annoying toddlers.

8 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

The only thing that ruined it for me is the boardwalk they installed at either ash cave or cedar falls (can't remember which) 1/?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It destroyed the natural beauty of the area, which really made me sad.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Sandusky is a Craphole and Cincinnati smells like the dirty river it's on.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 14

What's with the smell in Cincy? Honest question.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Do we smell?

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Every time I've been there, the city smells like sewer gas. Cool town, though.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Only when it rains.
