It's not the worst thing in the world, but it sure would be nice to get away from them for a little bit.

Here's my house, I just signed papers for the loan yesterday. Nothing fancy, just an old farm house.

If you guys would like I'll post photos of the inside. I've already started doing some work like putting up some drywall and refinishing the hardwood floors.

FP edit: (never thought I'd type FP edit) I will post photos of interior on Monday. As for my parents they purchased land right behind mine and will be building a new house once they get the money from selling, until that house is finished they will be staying with me.

Photos of interior are now posted: http://imgur.com/gallery/CAQTlvI

Damn that house is fucking huge, I wanna move in too

It looks fancy to me

This is the makings of a 90's sitcom. Role reversal, now your parents act sorta like kids.

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I mean that house looks the size I'd expect a 5 person family to be living in. In the UK that would be at least half a million

5 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Are they paying rent?

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

They are going to.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My parents did something like that. Bought a house, 3 months later they had to move out of theirs. I had to kick them out 2 months later.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Sorry to hear about that, fortunately for me this will only be temporary until they can build their new house

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

5 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 0

Oh fuck noooooooooo. They knew they were selling a house. Fuck that. Enjoy having a big event in your life stained. Back with mommy and dad.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Sorry this would make me so upset. Fianlly become an adult and thry move their nest to you. Bullshit.

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

No need to apologise, I'm not thrilled about it either, but they are going to be paying rent and help with repairs and remodel.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If they want to live with you, have them build a cabin on the property. No need to share your house and marriage(?) with them.

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

It's only going to be temporary, they purchased 15 acres right behind my property and they are going to build a house out back

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Good! Maybe I'm just not a family-oriented guy, but I'd definitely lay out some protocol for when or how they can visit.

Monday I'll post photos

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Well ok, long as they have a set departure from your house date AND aren't nosy neighbors.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They wont be nosy.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yes please post pics of the inside. I love your house and old houses in general.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I'll have to post an update on Monday

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

living at home at 27 ... jesus christ I would have murdered someone, or burnt the house down... or both.

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

I moved out when I was 32. It worked for us and my son has a special connection with his grandfather because of it.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They are extremely close and I think that closeness/bonding helped my dad through his own tough times.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Where I live the housing market is uncontrollable. If you list it it will sell. Everytime I'd find a house for sale it was twice as much 1/3

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

As I could afford, or it was either pending. I got lucky and the seller is a good friend of the family and offered it to me as a reserved2/3

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Buyer. The day it was listed 12 people showed up at the house wanting to buy it, however I was to get first dibs at it.

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

In my neighborhood, an agent was installing a for sale sign outside the house when a guy driving by stopped and made an offer above asking.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Having your parents around might be a blessing for awhile cause they can help with repairs or remodels

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They have helped with some work already. My mom was a carpenter and my step dad is an HVAC guy. Both of them have experience with building

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Wow that sounds perfect

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And in the past 15 years I have been learning from them how to do things right.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

#firstworldproblems

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 3

My parents better not try this shit. I need to get the fuck away from those bigots....all this assuming I ever get out of here...

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Love it, don’t forget to update when you find out it’s haunted! Congrats!

5 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Thank you. I'll keep everyone informed

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

They get the basement!

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Your house your rules. It's easy for your parents to forget that.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That’s a nice house. Looks big and peaceful.

5 years ago | Likes 318 Dislikes 0

Not disagreeing, but it kind of looks like a horror movie house.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Unlike my penis... which is small and angry

5 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Mine too.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Be a shame if someone were to RUIN that for you...

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thank you. It's very peaceful, however it's not that big, but for a single guy it's more than enough than I'll ever truly need

5 years ago | Likes 71 Dislikes 0

Please post pics of the inside! Old farmhouses are beautiful. Pine floors, shiplap, old growth windows. They feel like home.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That’s what i thought when i got my house. Then Covid hit and thank God i have all this space. Kept me from going stir crazy.

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

That house screams midwest. Wisconsin ?

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's unbelievable the cultural difference. In Italy any house bigger than 100sq (meters) is good for family of 3/4.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

As someone living in a 35 meter square single bedroom flat. That's a flippin massive hoose

5 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

All houses in America are huge. This would easily be classed as "big" in UK also not attached to other houses and overlooked by 12 others.

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Older houses can have several teeny rooms even though they look bigger. And there was a time when halls didn’t exist. Rooms were connected.

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Did it come with a nice chunk of land? I grew up in the county and my dream is to eventually build on a bunch of land out in the country.

5 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 0

I would have loved to buy the property a few miles away. It is a 169 acre farm... but I don't have the 1.4 million they are asking

5 years ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 0

I got 5 acres, my parents bought 15 right behind me. They plan on building on the land they bought.

5 years ago | Likes 45 Dislikes 0

That’s a nice chunk of land though!

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

If you moved out to get your own space how do you feel about them building right beside you?

5 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 0

They are building about a quarter mile behind my house (in the woods). I won't see that house. The reason I moved was to get on with my life

5 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 0

I don't get it, why are they selling their home before they have a new place to stay?

5 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

They need the money from selling their house to build a new house.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Selling on contingency (trying to close your old house and new one at the same time) can be a problem for a lot of reasons, and can put *c*

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

*c* either half of the deal in danger, especially in markets that are highly slanted towards buyers or sellers. And if you try to buy new *c

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

c* first a lot of people won't qualify for what is technically a 2nd mortgage and/or have their full down payment. Selling first is common.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Sometimes you put your house up early for a higher price to test the waters and then get an unbelievable offer.

5 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Asking the real questions

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Now you get to yell, “My house! My rules!” at your parents & laugh & laugh when they realize you’re serious

5 years ago | Likes 2099 Dislikes 0

"You're not going out dressed like that, not while you're living under MY roof, old lady!"

5 years ago | Likes 81 Dislikes 0

5 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 1

Demand that they put their feet on the furniture and drink milk straight from the carton.

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Yell at them for messing with the thermostat! This may be your only chance!

5 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

I...actually had to do that once with my parents when they lost their home. They started getting entitled and I had to put my foot down.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Literally did this to my mum 4 hours ago. She was stunned that I finally flipped it around on her. Feels fucking great.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

In my house elbows are required on the table, if you don’t like it dad you can go to your room

5 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

That's actually a cultural thing, I don't think it's as common anymore but in Germanic countries having your hands under the table was rude

5 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

In my AP French class we talked about never putting your hands on your lap, but idk how much of it was BS

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yea I did this to my dad. Had to pay all the Bill's for a bit due to his injury. Came home and pulled the " I dont work all day to come home

5 years ago | Likes 371 Dislikes 0

Never deny a Bill his money.

5 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

To a messy house and no food ready on the table".. if looks could kill I'd be dead 10 years ago

5 years ago | Likes 402 Dislikes 0

That's hilarious! I'm sure the death look made it even better.

5 years ago | Likes 154 Dislikes 0

It did make it better as I made dinner for us in defeat

5 years ago | Likes 77 Dislikes 2

Goaltending.

5 years ago | Likes 33 Dislikes 1

Wait till you see how goalies dress... it's like they're out for battle.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My house my rules

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Is that a thing? Isn't the point to stop the ball going in? I'm not very sporty...

5 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

You can try to block the shot, but once the ball is in a descending trajectory and/or above the imaginary cilinder above the rim, no touchy.

5 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Tell your dad not to touch the thermostat.

5 years ago | Likes 148 Dislikes 0

Looks haunted. Bet there's a tree where they used to hang people. Enjoy!

Please post pictures of the inside. This is gorgeous, we don’t have this style of house where I live.

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

I will post photos on Monday.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Oh cool thanks.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Congratulations. Owning your own house and having equity is a wonderful feeling.

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

I got mine last December. Unfortunately, due to Covid...I'm going to have to sell it in October because I don't have the money to keep 1/

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

up with the mortgage. So back to living with my parents and paying rent there...2/2

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Thank you

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If you're doing the walls, please, for the love all that is held holy, make sure that the wiring is up to code.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

All brand new wiring. The Amish bought this house about 8 years ago and after they were done destroying the house they sold it to 1/3

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The friend of the family. There friend is a super safety freak and had a licensed electrician replace all the wiring that the Amish 2/3

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Didn't remove. So everything is brand new and professionally done.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Awesome. I grew up in a farming community and my dad was on the volunteer fire department. He said most of the fires in old houses were 1/

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Caused by faulty wiring that wasn't up to code when it was installed in the 40s and 50s...

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Please, please, please post the interior!

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Monday photos will be posted.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Your place, your rules! No drinking, smoking, TV, internet, visitors or sex. Lights out & quiet time at 8:45. See how long they stay ;)

5 years ago | Likes 778 Dislikes 2

or, you know, they could all just be pleasant to each other and live as loving nice people together.

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 6

Thats almost certainly what will happen. And the parents will just buy the house and they keep their baby. Kidding kidding i hope it works

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yess do this! ?

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Except parents have 18+ years of banging and partying without kids finding out so they’ll just be sneakier

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Sounds like my house now.....

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Or they HAVE to drink & have sex at least twice a day. Lights may NEVER be turned off. One must sing rap classics anytime water is running.

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Setup a bunch of cameras and Livestream to pay off the mortgage in no time!

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The smoking thing: I had to tell my dad to go outside to smoke when I got my first place. If my wife goes out to smoke, he does too.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

An older coworker was at a party and was shocked when people were smoking pot inside & they asked him to go outside with his cigarette.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I was laughing on the inside, thinking yeah, that’s the rule for me & my friends too.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If that were my place when I got it, I'd tell them to just plain leave. I get drug tested for work, so even incidental exposure is a hassle.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They will be paying a good chunk of my monthly mortgage.

5 years ago | Likes 316 Dislikes 1

Do you think they would like Oregon?

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

In that case I could put up with a lot for a long while.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ha! Even more reason you should have said no. Hope they dont hold that over your head. "Ypu didnt actually move out we helped you."

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Just my advice: don't let that become a permanent arrangement.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Changes the rules a bit eh? I am living at home but pay half the expenses, no rules in this house lol.

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

No im kidding all around. Congrats on the big life event and im sure your parents are quite proud.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Then why buy a house? did you always intend to have them move in?

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well then, welcome parents!

5 years ago | Likes 312 Dislikes 0

Yeah for real!

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I recant my previous statement of doing the previous thing, welcomes ur wealthy parents ha

5 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

That's how rent works

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Still pay what you normally would on top of that and guess what your house will be paid off quicker.

5 years ago | Likes 96 Dislikes 1

Make sure you have the lender apply additional payments to principal instead of future payments

5 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 0

I did not know this, thanks

5 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Ot put the difference into a high yield retirement account. 2 or 3٪ on house loan vs 6 to 10٪ on retirement interest.

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yes! I work for a mortgage broker and ALL her properties are on loans. The extra $, in a safe investment, will yield more over time

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

If you’re in the us though paying a housing loan off earlier than expected can tank your credit FYI. But if you own a house what do you need

5 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 10

Credit for anymore

5 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

A car, a computer, healthcare... hookers and black jack

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Not really. Good accounts go away when paid off, but that won't tank your credit. @OP, do your research; you'll probably save thousands.

5 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

And do research it. Just one example: you may have to expressly tell the lender to apply each extra payment to the principal.

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Why does it tank to pay off bills/loans early

5 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

Every month you have a high amount of loans, and you pay those on time, your credit will increase (as long as you don’t use over 30% of 1/

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I, too, want to know the answer to this. I have never heard it before, and am paying my house off way early.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Because fuck everybody who isn't already a billionaire

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Part of it is lenders want to see a variety of loans so when you close one early they don’t have as much data as they would want so it can>

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Good, old accounts = good credit. Good, old account paid off = irrelevant. Then you only have your other accounts (which should be good).

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

To keep us down, man.

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

That place is *huge*! No wonder your parents invited themselves over!

5 years ago | Likes 218 Dislikes 1

Looks to be out on the country. Quite a bit cheaper than the same house in the suburbs. But still, yeah, big house.

5 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 0

Nothing special, just a huge ass house :(

5 years ago | Likes 55 Dislikes 0

Nothing special, just a huge house with lots of land that I bought at 27...

5 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 1

And now that slow slog to 57 years old when the loan might be paid off if you don't have to pick up a loan to fix something cause it's old

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

If he's lucky he might own that house by the time he's like 65. Not as bad as renting but not all it's cracked up to be either.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yes he's building equity and can do whatever he wants. And if he needs an emergency big purchase he can re mortgage. To say nothing of

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

2/selling it for a huge profit if he fixes it up. He's not in a mortgage for decades if he sells in 5 years for 30% more than he paid for it

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0
