This is the SD card. Someone shoved it too hard, resulting in a broken casing, and failure to access the data. If you look closely, you can see the broken circuit line at the bottom right. Hundreds of vacation photos seemed lost...
About an hour and a bit of soldering later, i came up with the solution (sorry about photo quality)
You can see the wire bypassing the broken circuit line. I was lucky to have nice soldering points for exactly this line, while most of the others vanish below the memory controller
It was not possible to put the SD card back into a card reader directly, the fix was just too fragile. So I used a micro SD adapter and wire from a serial cable to extend the actual SD connector.
It worked! I was able to plug the new connector into a card reader, and copy the data - about 300 vacation photos restored!
