The important one for now.

It doesn't work on foot and mouth disease because it's not foot and mouth sanitizer

Plain soap works great, and don't discount the mechanical value of just getting your hands slippery enough that the bad stuff slides off.

I listend to a (German) podcast with the virologist who designed the test for Covid-19 and he said: just use soap and hot water. Sanitizer ¹

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

is something you should only use when using soap is impractical (e.g. you are a receptionist, or you have no time to wash hands constantly)

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So it works on hella sht

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Soap often does a better job, breaking down the virus as well as washing it off you.

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Shit, the skin lubrication soap does makes it the best for all microbes. Unless you have bleach handy, but you don't want that on your skin

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Well... I guess technically, an hour in an incinerator is BEST best for cleanliness. But yeah, soap's a surprisingly good compromise.

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

In terms of lowest effort:efficacy, soap+hot water just can't be beat

*eats hand sanitizer*

It takes a lot more than some hand sanitizer to get rid of Cryptosporidium-137

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I wonder how many of those originated from people not washing their hands.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

We're only making them stronger

6 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

While antibiotic overuse is definitely an issue, I hear that there's little chance of alcohol based sanitizers losing their effectiveness.

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Toilet paper. Got it.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So alcohol is the hero

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

WHERE IS CORONA

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Do anti-vaxxers use hand sanitizer?

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Doesn't work against Candida

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Dammit how do I protect myself from foot and mouth disease?

6 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

There are antidisinfectants that work for it, lot out for something that kills Coxsackie viruses

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Stay away from feet and mouths.

6 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

I mean the mouths won't be a problem but I'm going to be having a hell of a time staying away from feet.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Just wash before

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

As long as you don't end up sticking your foot in your mouth, you should be fine

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Open mouth, insert foot, chew vigorously, and swallow.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

I am assuming they mean hand foot and mouth disease, which affects humans, not foot and mouth disease which affects cattle

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Not entirely true, as it depends on the contents of teh sanitizer. Many of these have a combined germicide in them.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It has NOT been proven positive against COVID-19. It has been proven against similar viruses.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You can also try this

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And then: v

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Poopy.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If hand sanitizer doesn’t kill Norovirus why do Cruise ships have everywhere?? My whole life is a lie.

6 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

There are special sanitizers that work for noro, like sterillium med, dunno if they use them on the ships though

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Norovirus survives alcohol. CDC says use bleach. https://www.cdc.gov/norovirus/about/prevention.html

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

"Hand sanitizers aren’t as effective as washing hands with soap and water at removing norovirus particles." soap for hands. bleach surfaces.

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Now tell everyone how much sanitizer it takes. Not the 1 pump/squeeze people normally do.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

B...but... a virus isn't a microorganism!

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I have a sanitation certification for fine dining, one thing I did not know until I took the class: viruses dont die at cooking temps.

6 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 1

By don't die, do you mean "will still be able to infect"?

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

But most bacteria do, correct?

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Yep

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Okay, good to know.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Pretty sure it doesnt work against Ebola...

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Cryptosporidium 137! From destroy all humans!

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Praise arkvoodle!

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

C. Dif you have to use bleach

6 years ago | Likes 77 Dislikes 2

Soap and water work just fine

6 years ago | Likes 37 Dislikes 6

Have to use bleach to kill those endospores cdiff forms.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

For your hands, not for the room.

6 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Nah. Not really. I’ve had C. Diff twice. Both times in isolation ICU. 1st time not my fault. 2nd time was faith in soap and water. Bleach it

6 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 2

Except equipment. You must sanitize equipment with bleach wipes

6 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 0

Work in a nursing home, tried to tell this to management (who has a nursing license). She didn't believe me. I've never wanted to quit more.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Then you should really report that to OSHA and joint commission

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Correct. Work EMS and the only approved sanitizer for our equipment is bleach

6 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

I love the smell anyway

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I won't admit this to anyone I know, but same... I also love how the orange top sani cloths have a totally different texture

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

So if I get HIV all I have to do is drink hand sanitizer and I’ll be cured?

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You have to get it in your blood and lymph system

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

For everything else there's mastercard

6 years ago | Likes 1455 Dislikes 4

Go contacless

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Except at Costco.

6 years ago | Likes 77 Dislikes 1

It’s the opposite in Canada. They only Accept MasterCard.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Canadian Costco stores take Mastercard exclusively. It used to be American Express but they switched a few years ago.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If only we had vaccines for some of the viruses that hand sanitizer doesn't work on...

6 years ago | Likes 373 Dislikes 3

The Polio virus is almost extinct due to imunisation.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I wish there was one for Cdiff. I've had it more than once because immune issues and it sucks ass! But you're right. A few do.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Wash your hands often, be safe!

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No vaccine fot HFM but it's not the end of the world if your kid gets it

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I'll stick to my iron lung

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I've had hand foot and mouth before. As an adult it is god damn awful.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I don’t think there’s a norovirus vaccine but I’d love to be proven wrong

6 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Or c.diff

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I honestly read norovirus as nonovirus- for your comment and for the main post. I thought that was a joke, oops...

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Might as well be the nonovirus, went through my household. Both ends. Same time. We all cried.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Apparently that link doesn't work but you can check yourself lol

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

There used to be one but some people died from it so they're retooling it

See the people who downvote this don't appreciate that this dude is obviously joking

6 years ago | Likes 75 Dislikes 7

We can only hope. I took it that way too but it’s hard to tell sometimes.

6 years ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 0

Unfortunately he didn't put a /s which means they're not necessarily wrong to be unsure, but I agree, he's prbly joking.

6 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 3

Sadly, there are many people who believe that vaccines cause autism. Dude should've put "/s" to make the joke more obvious.

6 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 1

Putting /s after your joke is like writing lol

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

but am i? ?
