Voyage of Time (2016)

It's basically 2001: A Space Odyssey meets David Attenborough.

Written and Directed by Terrence Malick, Voyage of Time is a depiction of the birth of the universe, the origin of life and the evolution of species. It's cinematography porn, narrated by Brad Pitt.

Nothing but the best weed will do.

A Beautiful Planet (2016)

Shot inside the International Space Station, this is definitely going to be remembered as a really important and historic moment in cinema history.

Lo and Behold: Reveries of the Connected World (2016)

A film by Werner Herzog about science, technology, the internet and the future?

FUCK YEAH!

Sky Ladder: The Art of Cai Guo-qiang (2016)

One of the most interesting artists in the world, Cai Guo-qiang works in a medium beloved of Imgurians and Mythbusters fans alike: EXPLOSIONS!

I was excited for this one for the same reason I was excited about Jiro Dreams of Sushi: it's a chance to look inside the elusive mind of a visionary genius who is a master of his craft

The Lovers and the Despot (2016)

Any stories out of North Korea are inherently interesting by virtue of the shroud of mystery surrounding the country.

This is one of the most interesting stories I've heard so far and it sounds like a deleted scene from The Interview: A South Korean actress and her Director ex-husband were individually kidnapped by Kim Jong-Il (Their "biggest fan") and forced to reunite in order to build the North Korean film industry. You can't make this stuff up.

The Tower (2016)

A serioulsy unique and refreshing way to tackle a difficult documentary subject.

At the University of Texas in 1966, a sniper climbed the clock-tower and proceeded to shoot at passersby for a full 90 minutes.

"The Tower" uses rotoscoping to blend together re-enacted scenes and archival footage of the mass shooting to give viewers an inside perspective on what it was like to be there.

Weiner (2016)

A look at the catastrophic fall from grace of Anthony Weiner.

Weiner's openness in this film, seems almost disturbingly excessive. The result is a very candid and transparent look into areas of a political campaign that we don't often get to see.

The film explores the realities of politics in the digital age and, as such, is particularly relevant.

NUTS! (2016)

Another very avant-garde take on the documentary genre.

NUTS! looks at the life of John R. Brinkley, an eccentric genius who claimed he could cure male impotence with goat-testicle transplants.

NUTS! plays with ideas of subjectivity and truth in documentaries in a very interesting way by including unreliable narration and testimony. It also mixes animation with talking heads and archival material.

Life, Animated (2016)

Oh, the feels!

Life, Animated tells the story of Owen who was diagnosed with Autism at the age of 3.

His parents found him drawn to Disney Animated Movies and started trying to communicate with him using Disney dialogue and character voices. Fast forward to today and Owen is more well-adjusted, socially capable and successful than anyone could have imagined.

If it wasn't real, I would just assume it was the plot of a cheesy, feel-good family movie.

Holy Hell (2016)

A look at the inner workings of a cult as seen through the eyes of a former member.

Shot by Will Allen while he was part of the Buddhafield cult, this is a perspective you don't often get to see.

This post has more points than views :s

You are right to be paranoid. Voyage of Time isn't actually a science documentary. It's pseudo religious right wing conservative propaganda

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

I watched Voyage of Time at TIFF. Right wing conservative propaganda. Nature and science documentary that does not talk about (1/2)

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 5

Pete? Repete! Are you right-wing propaganda?

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Doesn't talk about evolution or climate change. Suggests the Earth is older than the sun. Keeps referring to nature as "mother" (2/3)

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 5

Denies climate change by saying "Mother, you are mad. But we will be okay." And is affiliated with the Knights of Columbus some how (3/3)

thanks for the favoget

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah but where can you see them? I guess if you are not in the US is not posible

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

There are two versions of Voyage of Time. The 40min IMAX one has Brad Pitt. The feature length 35mm version has Cate Blanchett

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I've only seen the Cate Blanchett one. It's garbage. It's not science at all. It's just pseudo religious right wing conservative propaganda

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 4

"13th" on Netflix may not be exciting per say, but good God is it a great documentary

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

+1 for science.

9 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 2

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Voyage of Time was not science. It was pseudo religious conservative right wing propaganda

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Enlighten me on why that is

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I saw it at TIFF. Although it's supposed to be a documentary about nature, it doesn't talk about evolution or climate change (1/?)

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It keeps referring to nature as "mother." It denies climate change by saying, "Mother, you are mad at us. But we will be okay." (2/?)

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

It suggests the Earth is older than the sun. It shows a planet and a moon revolving around the cloud of a pre-formed star (3/?)

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Cool

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Haven't heard about any of these, but they all seem promising! Thanks!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Don't watch Voyage of Time. It's not a science documentary. It's pseudo religious right wing conservative propaganda

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

I will listen to anything if it's being spoken by Werner Herzog.

Where can I get the Voyage of Time online?

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

Don't bother. It's not science. It's pseudo religious right wing conservative propaganda

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 6

Pete? Repete! Are you right-wing propaganda?

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

well that's a letdown

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I second this. It is terrible. If anyone is interested in a more scientific version of Voyage of Time, I would recommend Cosmos.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

I almost came scrolling through these. I have a final exam in a week but a good little brake after. I fucking love you @op

Louis Theroux has one coming out soon about Scientology.

9 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

Nice!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Its out now in cinemas.. I wish more docs got cinema distribution.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I'm being spoiled by the local filmfestival! It's kind of boring watching a documentary other places than a cinema.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The first doc i watched in cinema was Touching the Void.. Which is a strange thing because it should have been nommed for best actor >

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

awards too, but couldn't qualify.. A bit like The War Game winning best documentary oscar, with only actors.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I just watched that and it's INSANE. I don't get how so many people are sucked into that, but he's got some old higherups in it. Worth it.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It was pretty meh for a theroux-doc. Watch 'going clear' instead

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I agree, Going Clear was an outstanding film.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I liked it, but I think it's the first thing of his I've seen. What else would you suggest by Louis Theroux?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The one on a legal brothel in the US, the crystal meth one and the one on paedophiles are some of my personal favourites

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

He did a fascinating tour of the Miami Mega Jails and then of the American Prison scene. All on Youtube

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Thanks. I'll look for that. :)

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Man I'm excited for Voyage Of Time, thanks @OP!

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Beware. It's not actually a science documentary. It's pseudo religious right wing conservative propaganda

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 5

Pete? Repete! Are you right-wing propaganda?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Holy Hell was freaky if for only the scenes where he is looking directly at the camera. You can actually see the crazy in his eyes. Nitemare

9 years ago | Likes 130 Dislikes 2

So weird.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I loved this documentary. Gave me a certain sense of unease as more and more came to light about the abuse and plastic surgery.

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Where would i watch holy hell

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Seriously though. The moment he appeared in the documentary it was "whaaaaat the fuck" based off of his stare alone.

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

You'll like "Jesus camp" then. It contains children so that adds to the creepy factor by tenfold.

9 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

One of my best friends was forced to go to a Jesus camp like the one in the doc. He said everyone fakes the gibberish. He did because he (1)

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Didn't want to embarrass the preacher in front of everyone. He would also have to get up at 6am every day to read the Bible for an hour (2)

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That POS tub of lard pastor lady-- *mentions Harry Potter*... *dramatic pause*.... *warpath stomps*"Warlocks are enemies of GAWD!"

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Jesus camp has stayed with me for many yrs.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It started off really weird with all the crying and hugging. Glad I stuck it out. That guy was a sociopath.

9 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 0

I was surprised at the end when the guy met the leader face to face again after so many years that he didn't deck the leader in the face.

9 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

I wonder if his temperament, that caused him not to lash out in ange,r was what made him open to joining a cult like this?

9 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Why do people like that seem to have such intense stares?

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I think it is called stone face. I think socio- or psycho- paths do it because it makes them feel powerful or hidden or something.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Or because if they don't have normal feelings they wont be expressing them with normal faces

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Where did you watch it?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's on Netflix

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yes Attenborough will be narrating.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Did you know davids brother is Richard Attenborough , the professor in the first and second Jurassic parc ? That's twisted stuff!

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Yep. He died :(

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I'm going to be so sad when Sir Richard dies and we get no more of his documentaries. I want to meet him before then just to say 'Thanks!'

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

David does the documentaries and Richard is dead for a while.

Voyage of time is in IMAX

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Don't waste you're time with Voyage. It's not scientific at all. It's pseudo religious right wing conservative propaganda

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 11

Right wingers usually have a hard time ciming to terms with evolution. The only evolutionary right wing thing is social-darwinism.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Pete? Repete! Are you right-wing propaganda?

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Please elaborate. I haven't seen it.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I saw it at TIFF. Although it's supposed to be a documentary about nature, it doesn't talk about evolution or climate change (1/4)

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

It keeps referring to nature as "mother." It denies climate change by saying, "Mother, you are mad at us. But we will be okay." (2/4)
