I remember a wildlife show about the Marabou Stork, it was eating baby weaver birds. It had a neck sack full of small squirming baby birds as it jumped on the thorn tree full of nests. Knocking the babies out of the more vulnerable nests and ten scooping the babies up, down in the sack hanging there. Yeah, saw that show at least 35 years ago... Nature is cruel.

"I can't believe I set up my expensive camera and gear assembled specifically for this task in this specific place I scouted where the subject specifically feeds and managed to record this on my camera after purposefully doing this in order to get this specific recording! What are the chances‽"

It's always interesting to see birds that make you see terrifying aspects of dinosaur-hood. But counterpoint: Imagine t-rexes doing silly mating dances, or stomping around like a conure, or just screaming their heads off and knocking over trees on purpose like a cockatoo.

I call this one, "That Wasn't a Microdose, Timmy"

That fish is even more dinosaur.

I saw one eat two snakes in rapid succession. The second snake put up a valiant effort by wrapping itself around a stick.

Fucking love these guys.

Sigh... it really irks me how people refer to birds as dinosaurs... yes, they descended from a particular branch of the dinosaur family, but then everything descended from a particular branch of a particular family... it's like refering to amphibians as fish or mammals as reptiles...

They've been reclassified. There's been a lot of taxonomical changes recently

Consider that "mammals" and "reptiles" are modern, nearly arbitrary mouth-sounds to describe animald that haven't had names for basically the entirety of their existences.
The sphere of knowledge around what we know about those two types of animal is still growing. The way that we *organize* that knowledge changes, and the way that we visualize and present that knowledge to others changes. You could show a phylogenetic tree that showed each branch of life that died off from the fish that didn't

a. end up being so successful that they're swimming around today, at one point in their life cycle, or b. developed an amniotic membrane, but where do you stop? Think of the terms like boxes inside of boxes https://www.reddit.com/r/Paleontology/s/lRCRlCF9FM

Nah, they're very sensibly dinosaurs. It would be really hard to construct a sensible taxonomy where, say, a Tyrannosaurus and Stegosaurus are both dinosaurs but a pigeon isn't, considering the pigeon is far more closely related, and closer in time to boot. Where you draw a line for a new taxon is always a bit subjective (though always backed by facts) and I don't think there's any sensible argument to draw one between dinosaurs and birds.

Enter the shoebill.

I maintain that Skyward Sword was underrated and maligned by people not understanding the motion controls. In many ways it was a game made for a world that was not ready for it.

I absolutely loved Skyward Sword and the loftwings

Pleco a dinofish.

Good luck. I don’t think they go down so easy

7 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Throw in the air, catch head first, that's how it goes down without any issues.

I used to be into keeping fishes. My understanding was plecos have pretty tough scales. I wonder if that's a challenge for a modern dinosaur ?

7 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I would be less concerned with their plated scales and more the spines on their pectoral fins.

7 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They are also called armored catfish.

7 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

The heron will swallow the fish whole. The stomach acid will take care of the scales and everything else

What a lovely way to die.

7 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I've never seen a wild one, thats neat!

7 months ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 0

Incredibly invasive. They are a threat to other species on the gulf states.

7 months ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 1

That's because you shouldn't see them in the wild! (Assuming your north American) incredibly invasive as people get them to clean their tanks not realizing how big they actually get

Thats also on the fault of store who lie to people about their size. Irefuse to carry "commons"

7 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

You own a fish store?

7 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

While stores shouldn’t lie, it’s 100% the fault of the owners who choose to release them into the wild. “The store lied” is not an excuse for that step.

7 months ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

Oh for sure, thats absolutely true. You'd be amazed how many people don't understand the harm that releasing stuff causes. The shitty places selling animals that shouldn't be sold in the first place while hiding the truth preventing better decisions deserve atleast some of the blame imo
