Saga

This is on the list because I suppose it has to be. While I no longer believe this is the best comic evarrr. It is the absolute best to start with. Brian K Vaughn is a master writer, pushing boundaries with his ideas. Staples' artwork is immersive and full of life. Lovely and sentimental.

Saga is an epic space opera/fantasy comic book series created by writer Brian K. Vaughan and artist Fiona Staples, published monthly by Image Comics. The series is heavily influenced by Star Wars, and based on ideas Vaughan conceived both as a child and as a parent. It depicts two lovers from long-warring extraterrestrial races, Alana and Marko, fleeing authorities from both sides of a galactic war as they struggle to care for their newborn daughter, Hazel, who occasionally narrates the series.

Wayward

Another spin on the anime favourite theme of yokai ; Japanese spirits and demons. Really gorgeous artwork and lovely creatures. A violent Ghibli-esque read.

Paper Girls

Pretty Deadly

Beautiful, intricate inking. Lovely colouring. Every page is a piece of art. The story is well put together, with everything coming together very poetically at the end. The characters are rich and give you many many feels. You'll reread it again and again.

Apocalyptigirl : an aria for the end times

Quirky, fun, lovely sense of humour. Aria is lighthearted, but has a message. Don't be overly critical with this one. It's a fun, sweet read with wonderful artwork.

The Divine

Really fucking amazing saturated artwork. This story disappointed me a liiiiittle but after reading up on it, the history is pretty cool. It's a weird but totally seamless blend of natural and fantasy worlds.

Halogen

I'm a major Afuchan fangirl. I really like the art so this one may be a biased pick. The story is captivating and the characters are unexpected.

Rich and detailed artwork. Wonderful creatures & characters. Beautiful coming of age story, dedicated to the author's son. All the dads out there need to read this.

Also, if queerness bugs you, (you're probably a dick'ed) proceed with caution. Gender ain't no thing off in Far Off Ithicaa. I only just realised today that the spaceship is a pair of ovaries. Wut. That's the best.

A little heavy in the beginning due to the sheer density of lore and storytelling. It's really really well thought out. Truly magnificent. My all time favourite. READ IT.
